Sark makes $5.2 and Beard makes $5 at Tech. Are we really going to pay him more than Sark to come here? I like Brad Underwood a lot but have a friend who played for him at Western Illinois and said Brad isn’t leaving Illinois. I wish Chris Ogden were a little more successful at UTA. That guy bleeds burnt orange and would love to come back to Texas.

    LHABSOB,

I have no personal knowledge, but have a close friend that has known Underwood for well over a decade. She says he is making $3 million at Illinois

Just for my own curiousity I looked up leading scoring team in NCAA as I like to watch offense in basketball. Gonzaga 1 and Baylor 4. Coincidently scoring defense showed up 1 Loyalo Chicago 2 UH. I hope we choose a guy who goes for scoring. Does anyone know why the teams who used to try and score within 3 seconds like Loyalo Marimont disapeared? Sure they never won a championship, but they had a chance. Now they have no chance. BTW, I know the coach died.

What about Nate Oats at Bama? Folks in Tuscaloosa would just love us for taking Sark and then Oats

That would be moving too quickly for my tastes. According to many people on this board, Tech does not have a single player who could crack the UT starting 5 which means he needs to up his game significantly in recruiting.

Sorry, but you obviously don't understand the issues with recruiting in Lubbock.

Loyola of Chicago won the NC in 63. If I recall correctly they were pretty fast paced for that time.

The last Texas-ex HC who Texas took from Tceh is a great guy but was lost as an HC at Texas. Lubbock and Austin are in two totally different worlds. What you can get away with in Lubbock will not fly in Austin.

I'm hearing Beard will be the guy, but who knows at this point. IF he comes to Texas it's because Texas is not Tech. Tech is a glorified high school up on the plains.

The difference being, that one coach from Tech got robbed of a National Title both in regulation and in overtime. The other coach from Tech, while he is family, Longhorn Royalty, and when he passes, grown men will sob, was uniquely qualified to fix the family feud that he inherited here, and other than beating three bad Oklahoma teams and an overhyped Cougar High squad, never won a big game in his life.

    So there's that.......

    Dana Altman please
Nate Oats is another unproven commodity from Wisconsin. I like him and he’s a good coach but he just RE-upped at Bama for 3 years at $3M. Texas would be a lateral move for him, can’t see him fitting here. If he gets to the elite 8 Bama will lock him up.

Here's 10 possibilities, most mentioned here. McCasland is interesting, but I wonder how he would handle the pressures and responsibilities of a big time program like Texas.

Beard is the obvious choice, but is he the best? One would have to be missing some screws though to chose living in Lubbock over Austin. One of the most depressing places in the country. Nothing but a flat, ugly dust bowl. Unless you live a few miles in Muleshoe.

I'm glad you understand something, but YOU clearly have never recruited, sat in a recruits living room and told him why he really doesn't want to take SMU's money, or had a kid cry on the phone because he hates SMU and they just bought his mom a new house.

Lubbock has recruiting difficulties that few D-1 school face. Those will not be discussed publicly, but Leach understood them and excelled in spite of them. If YOU have a solution, Tech boosters will pay you seven figures a year to implement them.

I don't know why but your comment reminds me of Bill Snyder saying he had to fly recruits in at night to get them to go to KSU.

I would bet that if Beard was at Texas this year with the talent Shanka had, we would still be playing next weekend.

I really know nothing about Lubbock society. I have family there and they love it. But other than there are many places I would rather live, I don't know the Lubbock/TT social issues. I think that firing the pirate was stupid, FWIW.

    Dave,

I love Lubbock and the High Plains. Greatest people in the world.

Mike Leach is a treasure; one of the funniest people you'll ever meet. A Mormon, he has read The Bible cover to cover either 8-9 times. Loves his wine.
