Yeah Urban raked Tom over the coals for that one, and pretty much every national source picked it up. If I recall, Herman never said "pixie dust" but Urban turned it into that, and then it got attributed back to Herman or something. It was with the Maryland game.

The disparaging thing was that he was saying it about his 2017 roster... implying that it would take more than "pixie dust" to solve the bare cupboard, poor fundamentals, etc. that he inherited. By talent alone, that defense from 2017 should have rated among one of the best we've ever had. So while Herman was correct to be frustrated about the Maryland game, he shouldn't have said the "fairy dust" or whatever it was comment so glib.

We as sports fans largely get what we deserve. Saban is a jerk and we would take him in a second. If TH had 2 national championships, he would probably be a good guy for a person who is a bit eccentric. Just win baby!

This is of topic, but why do people consider Saban a jerk? He's seemed level headed and well spoken every interview I've seen him, he doesn't rant and rave excessively on the sidelines, his players love him, he brings in coaches who have flamed out elsewhere, they do well, and then go on to second chances as coaches (Sak, the Tenn/USC/Miss coach who's name escapes me now).

I think he's done some greyshirting - where they sign more than they have room for, but isn't that sort of like how airlines overbook, as some never make it to college anyway, between flunking HS or ACT/SAT tests, getting arrested, being exposed as dope fiend, etc.?

I need some examples of him being a meanie, otherwise it just sounds like jealously.

“That was not a discussion, that was an *** chewing.” Perhaps the crappiest thing he does is take away scholarships of guys who are not going to make it. Of course this practice is spreading, but he more or less is the person who made it “normal”.

Yeah, that's a product of the grey-shirting. If they overbook, and all the dudes they sign actually make it to campus, they have to make some room. In this age of the Portal, where I swear you can decide to quit a team at halftime, and by the 4th quarter be on the roster of the team on the other side of the field, I can't get too worked up about a school giving players who aren't cutting the mustard the boot. Consider it the anti-portal, or maybe forced portal.

What else has Nick Satan done? Cuse if that's it, it's not that much.

Saban expects too much from his players. Good percentage of people hate that.

Don't agree with Saban being a jerk. The rest is spot on.

Anyone that thinks Saban is a jerk, needs to put down the pipe, sit back and review some history starting with:

    1) He could have destroyed our program to the extent we may never recover, but he didn't say a word.

    2) He could have done worse to LSU, crippled their program for decades and even sent people to jail, but he just walked away.

The "jerk sayers" should be writing him thank you notes.

The word eccentric is saved for those who win and those who are rich. Herman was not a winner so he isn't eccentric. I'll just leave it at that.

There is razor thin fine line between being a genius and a stupid *******.

something to consider for anyone who wants for others to think of himself as a genius. You could end up looking more like Tom Herman.

And I agree about Saban. He has a pretty icy personality but I have never seen him show his *** like Tom Herman could.

As far as tHe grey shirting thing goes... it hasn’t stopped recruits from jumping in his boat. I hope Sark is good enough greyshirt some day. As long as the players know what the deal is.

That is the thing about Herman, all the things we complained about Herman are true, and worthy of complaint, but if he won championships, we would have called him quirky and passed them off as working.

Still, he was an arrogant *** for some of the things he did, because he didn't win.

Catch the interview with Reese upon retirement announcement then think if the interviews with Herman and compare. Reese is one hell of a man.

I said last year that if Herman stayed and won the Big XII and a NC, ha that's a laugh, I still wouldn't watch Texas and support him because of his douchebaggery in the SJW field of play.

    So, screw him.

As Sabre will confirm, I ranted and ranted prior to, and up to the day of the Herman hire, that this was going to end in disaster. Just as Sabre will confirm that he was a vocal supporter of the TH hire, who very quickly, and publicly demanded improvement that sadly never came.

As I stated on this board, like everyone else I really, really, really did want TH to be successful. Likewise I really, really, really wanted to believe in the Loch Ness Monster. The big difference between the two, is that there are people who actually claim to have seen one of those two things. For well over a century.

Additionally, if you really learned anything new about TH between midnight after that first Maryland game and the day CDC pulled the trigger, you may want to re-think your observational skills. We had hired a second Group of Five coach and were continuing to get Group of Five results. The big difference being, the first guy was at least a decent fellow, the second......not so much. But everything that seemed to be an "OMG moment" over the next 4 years, was on full display against Maryland.

Frankly, the Sark hire in the immediate short term is going to be like Dodds hiring Tom Penders. People were just so damn glad that he wasn't Bob Wet-lick, that they loved the guy, ("All gas, no brakes", won 49 games the first two years with a Round of 32 and Elite 8 appearance).

Plus if you are trying to run the clock 3.8+3.8+3.8 will equal at least 60 if not 80 seconds off the clock. 3 incomplete passes might run off 30 seconds and then a punt.
My 5 year old grandson figured that out.

I'm with TH on the Warren criticism for the 2017 USC game. His carries weren't really the issue... when he was called upon to catch a pass in the flats in a tough 4th quarter situation, he failed, and when he was supposed to pick up the rush, he failed. It's why we resorted to plow attempts with Sam for like half the game.

Where TH messed up was with the math stuff in the press conference. He shouldn't have even accepted the premise of the question if he honestly believed that the way we played offense that day was the right way. He should have just said "the run game wasn't working" and he would have been correct. We had better luck with a reverse to Reggie Hemphill-Mapps.
