Well....won’t get to see Kobe In Lubbock. Casper fell in OT to Otera tonight. No box score to see how Kobe played. Guess we’ll see her in Austin in about 6 weeks.

I'm so confused. I thought they already secured their spot for the national tournament?

Nope. Go back and review page 31 of this thread. They were in finals of Region IX tonight. There are 16 region champs and 8 at large entries into the National Tournament starting next week. The region that Femme’s team DID win its region. Later the top teams meet in Lubbock.

So they can't get an at large entry?

I’m embarrassed. Yes. I’ll bet they will as they were the number 3 team in nation and this was their first loss of the season. My old decaying brain cells are the culprit. Thanks for keeping me straight.

Kobe went for 20 points, 11 boards. No other details.

Excellent. If I read the brackets correctly, Femme’s team will meet Kobe’s team in the finals for the National Championship. At least that is what I hope happens. A few years ago when one of the Gouudreau (spelling evades me) was in the championship game and I watched it streaming live. Perhaps they will broadcast or stream this year as well.

Kobe’s season came to an end today. I paid the $10 to watch the games mainly to see Femme in a full game. Kobe scored 7 of Casper’s first 11 points but then was held to 0 points until the 4th quarter when she put up 10. Finished 7/13 (2/7 from 3, 1/3 FT) with a game high 17 points, 9 boards and 3 assists.

Her defense has improved since I saw her play earlier in the year - actually had a few deflections and was pretty good on switches. I’m not sure if she’s ready to contribute significant minutes but she does have a pretty good basketball IQ and will have a few months with Vic & Co before the Longhorns get back on the court.

It’s always difficult to project how a JUCO player will project at a Power 5-level school - simply because the basketball played at that level is simply not very good.

There are, of course, many notable exceptions (Natasha Mack, Alexis Tolefree for examples). Louisville landed a star JUCO player in Ahlana Smith and she did not contribute much. UNC had a player that did not play much and now averages over 20 PPG at the JUCO level.

I think that pretty much every poster on this board has realized that the expectations for Femme and Kobe are generally tempered.

However, I think Femme could develop really nicely in her two years at Texas given her combination of size and athleticism and our need for a post player. I also think Kobe has some nice skills and a solid IQ - she could also turn into a solid guard after being coached up.

Femme & SGTC down by 16 at half. Tyler JC could punt the ball from 3 and it’d go in in the first quarter (5/6 from 3 including a half court shot at the buzzer). Femme with 1 point and 4 boards in 8 minutes - the SGTC coach rotates his post players in fairly short bursts. She’s thinner than I thought but has an athletic build and moves pretty well. Tyler is MUCH smaller but are +12 in rebounds at half - just quicker to the ball and following their shots. Also some of the worst post entry passes from the SGTC guards that I can remember in a half of basketball.

Almost forgot, Femme is not going to have a problem with physical play. She got into it with the Tyler post a few times banging in the blocks. Threw a firm shoulder into the opponent knocking her off her spot - her only personal foul in the half.

3rd quarter and Femme had 6 points - played the entire period. Established good position, shielding defender from the ball and much better passing into her. Other than rushing a bit on a layup and missing, she looked good.

SGTC loses by 19 but I have to say I’m cautiously optimistic about Femme’s ability to contribute next season. In the 4th quarter she picked up a couple of assists with nice paint passes to the other SGTC big when she was doubled.

The more I find out about how Aaliyah carries herself and how much she works, the more impressed I am. She’s going to be a great representative for Texas and the program.

How awesome is that. By her speaking to these youths, they'll become Longhorn fans. And just may be one of them will become a power 5 recruit.

Rumor from SEC land that Baylor's lone 2021 signee (6'4 Myriam Dauda) has asked to be released from her LOI signed last November.

Yeah. She's probably going to Arkansas. And Again, still waiting for Vic to hire a post coach.

Nice to see Kyndall working hard but not sure how to feel about a professional trainer using it to drum up business. Then again, I am a bit suspicious of everyone’s motives.
