Tommy Asaff from my old hometown Marshall....Hogs had a starting guard from Marshall named Ronnie Hammers.
this era from 1968 thru 1973 (7th grade thru High School) was my wheelhouse for football..............I was consumed by the game............Longhorns were kickin' butt, the Cowboys were already playing for titles and just playing the game whether it was a neighborhood pickup game or the real deal in school........
I remember at games in 1969 the Horn fans yelling to put Asaff in! He got far more playing time than he could have expected before the season. He ran well with the ball as my fuzzy old brain remembers.
Arkansas played an inspired game that cold, December day. It was absolutely a nightmare to watch as we self destructed. But Arkansas' two turnovers were critical for our victory. Frank Broyles was, quite frankly, a dumb ***. Run the ball 3 times, kick a Fg and the game is over.
Kicking was screwed up all day so that decision wasn't necessarily a dumb one. Throwing an out pass near the sideline didn't make sense. Dicus over the top was the play that should have been called.
