Well, so far the short visit to San Francisco is not going well. After the 3-1 loss last night, the Rangers are trailing 2-1 going to top of the fourth this afternoon. Lyles on the mound for the Rangers; so far he has walked four through three innings. That won't cut it. But just starting the top of four, so the Rangers have time for a comeback. Off day tomorrow, then off to Houston for four games. Crunch time!

Well, the Rangers lose 4-2. And only two of the four runs were earned - another waste of a very good pitching performance. Let's hope they can eliminate the errors and start hitting while they're playing in Houston.

They just can't seem to beat National League teams...

18-18 to 18-20 in less than 24 hours. If one is looking for positives the pitching held up, and Culberson was the only non-pitcher who had more than one K.

The quick visit to .500 is now a pipe dream - the losses are piling up. There's still hope for 70 wins this season, but any hopes for a final .500 record are fading quickly.

4 losses in a row is 2/3s of the "surplus" needed to stay on the path to 70 losses. However, In the non-competitive loss last night only 5 Ks which shows much needed gaining plate discipline. (Must qualify that Gallo did not play.)

^Plate discipline does seem to be getting a bit better. And I'm not really worried about Gallo - he's a bit streaky, so a good streak will come sometime soon, and with it a bunch of homers. I'm still hopeful for 70 wins. More important - I'm thinking that they need to be on pace for 70 before the trading deadline, so it would clarify how active the Rangers need to be as sellers.
And since this is my 6,000th post, I feel that I should close with the obligatory statement - "It's 1:45, and ou still sucks!"

Losing streak is at 5. Last year they had several long losing streaks and I am hoping this is not evidence the team gets in a funk and is incapable of clawing their way out for sustained periods. Now for perspective they are losses to two of the better teams this year in SF and Houston so perhaps its just an indicator that Texas isn't yet in a place to be competitive with likely playoff teams.

Looks like the Rangers were victims of a no-hitter tonight (Corey Kluber for the Yanks). No-hitters seem to be contagious in MLB this year.

HHD, that is two in the first two months of the season. In case you missed Woodward's PC, he looked shell shocked.

Fun fact, on the Ticket this morning they mentioned that Kluber bobble heads were being passed out last night to get rid of stock. Local kid who was a bust last year for Texas comes home and pitches a no hitter for the freaking Yankees as the Rangers pass out excess bobbleheads of him. Just so very Texas Rangers .......:idk:

Nice walkoff win last night, with the three-run homer in the bottom of ten. The Rangers are not going to contend this year, but they are still fun to watch.

A month has passed since the last update on the Ranger's quest to win 60 games. As of the start of play today, the liner number is 25 wins while the Rangers sit at 22 wins. Still hope!

Also the Rangers are still well situated to avoid that fate as the Oriels sit at 19 wins in the AL (also worse in MLB) with Pittsburgh (21 wins) and Arizona (20 wins).

With all the college baseball over the last month the Rangers have been a little out of sight out of mind and that's good because they have driven over a cliff the last 30 games going on two long losing streaks and setting a pace that will mean 70 wins is now just about impossible and 100 plus losses is looking more and more likely. The whole at least we arent Baltimore thing is wearing a bit thin and the losing has become so prevalent that the Rangers sit just three wins ahead of the putrid Orioles. Looks like I may get my first ever visit to the new stadium this Friday to see them play the Twins and I am looking forward to seeing the new digs. The Rangers just look lost out there and the young kids who early in the season gave me reason for optimism about the future are really struggling, there is still some 95 games left to show something but the first 66 games leave me singularly unimpressed.

FW, the trend line for 70 says Texas needs 29 victories at this point in the season. They have 25 this morning so they are 4 under. On the 4th of June they were still 2 over so in 10 days they lost 6 games to the 70 line.

They are what I thought they would be wildly inconsistent. It hasn't helped having to play the NL West either. We are planning to go to one of the Oakland games next week (tickets in the uppermost section behind Home going for $6 on Stubhub).

As the Rangers appear more than willing to give Baltimore a run for its money for the worst team in the AL and perhaps even set their sights on Pittsburgh and Arizona for the worst team in MLB, I finally made my way out to the new Globe Life Field Friday night and I have to admit I was impressed (by the new digs not the team).

We parked north of the old stadium in a lot across from where the Dr. Pepper little league field was/is (I couldn’t tell if it was still there or not). The walk to Texas Live wasn’t bad and the atmosphere in there is great. We bought walk up tickets at the box office in section 104 which were a little higher than we expected but still great sight lines. It was 96 outside and in years past this would have been a sweat through all your clothes kind of night but man was that AC nice and it made for a very comfortable evening.

There were a ton of food options none of them cheap but that is normal for any MLB stadium. The concourses are big and plenty of places to sit and enjoy the surroundings if you don’t want to eat at your seats. There were over 30k fans in attendance to see two pretty bad teams. In fact, the baseball itself was not good but that was secondary to the experience and I came away very pleased and intent on going again soon.

Once we get past the CWS we need to get a DFW Hornfans Ranger fanatics get together set up some weekend and even if the Rangers are headed to 100 losses enjoy some professional baseball in a beautiful facility. :texasflag:

I'm up for that. We have quite a few Hornfans Ranger zealots in the Metroplex, plus some more within reasonable commuting distance.

It's looking more and more that the Rangers will be sellers at the trade deadline. They're slipping further back in the standings and making more call-ups from the farm system. IMO, this signals that they're waving the white flag on this season (and probably next season, also). Wonder who has enough trade value to get some decent prospects in return?

Gibson and Gallo are the first two to come to mind. Calhoun may have been there at the first of the season, but I think he has shown enough to keep (for now anyway). There may be a reliever that would interest someone.

The Rangers have caught fire since the pitchers are now being policed for doctoring the ball. The Dallas Morning News posted an article about this. You'd think the Rangers own pitchers would even it out in terms of runs scored against them but maybe they weren't doctoring the balls. :idk:

At half way mark the Rangers have 32 wins and are on pace to avoid a 100 loss season. We shall see who they put on the trade block as absolutely no one thinks this team is anywhere close to a contender for at least a couple more years so moving just about anyone wouldn’t surprise me at this point.

Agree 100%, FWHORN. Then the question becomes a bit more complicated - "who do you keep that figures into our plans 3 years from now as a contending team?" IMO, the younger players stay - they're the key elements of the future. Gibson is a hot commodity and should be traded - he will command pretty good value in the trade market. I'm in favor of keeping Gallo - he has proven himself to be a top-tier defender, and power like that is hard to come by. Beyond those two specifics, I'm open to see what the management wants to do and what trades are available that can position the team for the future.

Another month down, but the Rangers appear to have some spunk in them as they gained one game on the Quest to 70 wins. As of the start of play today, the liner number is 35 wins while the Rangers sit at 33 wins.

There has to be a light at the end of the tunnel, we just cannot see it yet. This month's issue is the Trade Deadline (or whatever they are calling it this year).
Gibson is as good as gone; Calhoun isn't lightening anything up so he will probably stay. Someone might like Dahl or Lowe to offer something mildly tempting. Gallo? Hard to tell. The HR spurt he is currently enjoying will end soon with the inability to hit the better pitchers with men in scoring position returning. My gut is they will keep him.

Baltimore (27 wins), Pittsburgh 29 wins) and Arizona (23 Wins) still worse off than the Rangers. However, Minnesota has joined the ranks of bottom feeders with 33 wins.

Ok fellow Ranger fanatics with college baseball done and football some 60 or so days off let's talk a hornfans get together at a Ranger game. Seems like a Saturday night or Sunday afternoon will work best. Looking at the schedule the Rangers have Seattle July 31 and August 1 and then they have Oakland August 14 and 15 and Houston August 28 and 29 if we are inclined to mix with our fellow hornfans from space city. I lean toward one of the Sunday afternoons but am open. Post or PM me and let’s get something on our respective calendars.:texasflag:

The Saturday afternoon in August (14th) looks like a good one. I can make that one - 31 July is an issue for me.
