The alumni band also has/had that awesome twirler who would hurl the baton about as high as the upper deck and catch it.

    Chop,

His name is Don Hart, and Don has to be 80 now. I believe he is from Leander. Used to thrill the “knot hole” kids. Puma should have signed him to a shoe contract because he wore that same pair of Puma shoes for 40 plus years.

When the LHAB would March in, my daughter would start asking if he was there. With my binoculars I would scan feet until I found the Pumas.

Somewhere I have a photo of me and my girlfriend with him at El Patio. I’ll try to find it and post it.

I'm mostly having fun at the woodwinds expense. You CAN hear them if you try :smile1: and you can definitely hear them when they march by on the street.

When I was in high school band, the first two rows of our parade formation consisted of the trombones, followed by the trumpets and baritones, then the tubas and french horns, then the percussion session, then followed by the saxophones, the flutes, and the clarinets. I was always on the front row of the trombones. Said a friend of mine who played sax: "You get to be first to step in the horse poop. Hooray for you."

Anyone know what happened at commencement last night? There was supposed to be a student walk out during the playing of the The Eyes.

I didn’t know that. I would have attended with a trash can for them to dump their degree.

I was there, section 102 just to the right of the stage--they had all (most) of the graduates sitting in the lower level, some on the field--During Hartzell's final speech before the grads all filed out, they played a subtle and faint version of "The Eyes" and I told my wife if that is what they consider playing the school song I am gonna be pissed. They never did "officially" announce "and now, The Eyes of Texas" like Wally or Bob Cole do at football games--but asked everyone to stand. "The Eyes" began to play, and it was still pretty dark with only the scoreboard ribbon and jumbotron providing light. I had heard about the walk out and searched around, and mainly noticed the doctoral and grad school candidates on the field leaving. Hard to tell if some of the undergrads did as well, since it was pretty dark. My son, an engineering grad, said a person "of color" booed behind him while it was being played but he was not in graduate cap & gown. Still felt like they were trying to slide the song in without much fanfare to me though...

Disagree; we should have hacked into the jumbotron and blared "The Eyes" loud enough to be heard in Waco.

HI Horn87, my son was also on Engineering Grad Saturday night. I sat in upper deck of North end zone. I was surprised at how low the volume was the EOT, but I a lot of people in my area stood with Horns raised and sang. My son reports a handful of snowflakes walked out of his area and one yelled "racists" at the remaining students. Of course as soon the EOT was finished the snowflake stopped to take pics of the fireworks. Before the ceremony my son and his friends were laughing about the Facebook posts going around trying to coordinate a big walkout. It failed.

LULZ, I hope the snowflake isn’t embarrassed about his racist degree. Maybe hide it under his pillow. What a crybaby.

This. As long as we have activist "journalists" promulgating lies we are gonna keep dealing with this.

WOW! All five of them. Why did they show up to begin with? It's MY LOOK AT ME MOMENT! Are they really graduating students or rummy plants to make a scene.

Anyone that has been around The University for any period of time, and/or studied the administrations going back 50-60 years, the school has been laced with liberals who are there because they cannot get a real job. That said, it seems apparent to me with all the West Mall protestors over the years, and liberal leadership, if there was a story here, it most certainly would have come out before 2020.

IT IS OUR SCHOOL SONG! DON'T LIKE IT, GET THE f**k OUT AND FIND A SCHOOL MORE TO YOUR LIKING.

FWIW, I searched Compton, who graduated from Mizzou (used to be a top journalism school), and found about a dozen or so photos she took at the graduation. The one posted of the five people walking out, is the only "abnormal" photo. The rest are photos of celebration.

If the one posted is the only one to make the Spaceman, I won't be surprised.

I would, however, recaption is to say "Five Texas graduates leaving early to file for Austin City Council seats"

Why on earth would you go to a university where you felt uncomfortable??? If it's not something you felt good about. LEAVE. I felt very comfortable when I was a student at UT.

Oh she has other pictures posted, but it's the caption that's infuriating. It's the proliferation of a lie.

Here's Christian Douglas (below). Congrats to the young scholar and musician. Here's hoping he can lead the Band out of this lingering and annoying morass with the malcontents. It would be very difficult for Christian to not be a significant improvement over his predecessor. It's time to turn the page, put this chapter to rest, and restore the Showband of the Southwest! Hook 'em Horns, and The Eyes of Texas are upon you.

Here's to the new leaders of the Percussion Section (my personal favorite section...). Congrats gentlemen! I bet Mr. Shah sure has some interesting tales to tell regarding his favorite memory. :fire::fire::fire::fire::fire:

(as an aside, I note these guys are in some fairly rigorous majors)
