40-2 James Madison 4 50-3 Oklahoma 3 Look through JM's schedule and the played pretty much nobody just like Fairfield. Then they took out Tennessee in their regional, then took out Missouri in their regional following that up with beating OU in the world series. If Fairfield beats ASU we better look out.
Or Pete Hansen. Could be a 3-2, 2-1, or even 1-0 sort of game. So yeah, an error or strange bounce of the ball could decide it.
They have the nation’s best team ERA. We’re #2 in that category—while playing a completely different caliber of opponent. Then they faced ASU twice and give up 7 runs in each game. They used five pitchers this morning. We have unused starters Hansen (some could argue our best pitcher late season) and Kubichek. We also have unused relievers Quintanilla and Nixon (and Gordon and some other decent or better relievers behind them). I like this set up folks.
We should handle them. This isnt softball where a single pitcher (ahem Cat Osterman) can dominate game after game. Fairfield played a cupcake schedule.
Yeah, I guess instead of looking superficially I could have done a deeper dive. Oh well, better to be concerned and happy with results than overly confident and end up barely escaping.
I know. Cant believe they beat ASU the first time. They were a very sound team but not like you expect from D1. They just didnt have the pitching depth to run a tournament like this.
