    Interesting.

    I suppose for college baseball recruiting, you want a bunch of guys just barely outside the top several rounds of the draft. Many of the very top will, of course, sign big $ contracts and go pro right away.

    If you're a really good player, but not a top 150 sort of guy, playing ball at a major college sounds better than the rough and rugged minor leagues lifestyle. Also, the food's a lot better at a college athletic dining table than what you'll be eating on the road in the minors. So I've heard.

    I'm no expert, but I think getting batters that have hit well in the Cape Cod amateur league is a pretty good play for MLB teams. It's such a pitcher's league. Those that hit well there are special players.
