Truly a remarkable achievement in college baseball. Some really good programs have only been 5 to 10 times..

USC has the most CWS championships (12) but half of those were on the 1970s and the most recent was in 1998.

TEXAS and LSU both have 6 championships; most recent being 2005 for UT and 2009 for LSU.

UT had many chances to add to those 6. I cannot count the number of times the Horns were in the CWS final and lost NC opportunities.... maybe 4 or 5 ???

I believe we have played for the title 12 times and won it 6… 49-50-75-83-02-05 champs as most people know… 53-84-85-89-04-09 as runner ups..

The one that upset me the most was 1989. The NCAA modified the format from a true double elimination format to a pool format to accommodate TV. TV wanted a definite date and time for the championship game.

We swept through our pool undefeated. Wichita St. won their pool, but had 1 loss. We lost the one game with the Shockers and left Omaha with 1 loss and no trophy.

The way I see it thus far:

Us and Vandy have got to be the favorites.

Tennessee is the stand-in for Arkansas as the team with the lineup that bashes in lots and lots of runs.

The sports media will laud Notre Dame if they make it. They'll get more press than anyone if, and as long as, they're in it.

Arizona is the dangerous dark horse that could overturn everyone's predictions.

Yep, that one certainly burns me the most, kinda like the 1984 Cotton Bowl. We were down to Scott Bryant pitching who was a hitter not a pitcher and his walks were too much to overcome. Another game we woulda been back to the top of the rotation.

The 1 game championship was BS.

How many games Aggie won at Omaha? 1 or 2 ?

It was 2 until 2017 when they beat Davidson for 3 all time.

Vandy / Arizona is going to be a great game. Vandy's pitching vs. Zona's hitting. But I see Stanford making it out of that side of the bracket.

USC was basically an illegal farm club for the New York Yankees back in the day and that's how they were able to acquire so many titles in such a short period which are not on the up and up. It worked out for them, they have a hard record to beat, but they were not exactly playing fair.

Interesting. I'll have to Google that. I've always wondered what was up with USC. They haven't done squat in forever. Always figured they just had a good run. 6 titles and 6 runners up ain't bad for us. We could easily have 7 or 8 titles.

I think this is only our 36th time in Omaha, not our 37th. Our first appearance in the College World Series was in 1949, when the event was held in Wichita, Kansas. We won the national championship that year. Beginning the following year and every year since, the College World Series has been held in Omaha. So, we have 37 CWS appearances, but "only" 36 in Omaha. Hook'em!

Not to say your wrong, but is there a difference between Wichita and Omaha?

Yes. Omaha has a more interesting culture, in my opinion.

Stanford dismantled tech in the super, and because of that performance Stanford is the team I think will come out of that bracket.
