Well the new recruits were greeted by Vic, Blair, and Calamity but that's all I saw. Didn't see any new faces staff wise. As far as what they are doing. They have began classes and are about to start workouts very soon. One thing that I found interesting was from Kyndall Hunters Instagram regarding her roommates. She is rooming with Rori and another new face that I had not seen before. It could be a player from another sport because Texas does mix athletes from different sports sometimes. I don't expect this drought of lack of information to last much longer. Once summer workouts begin we should hear more.
yesterday KH & RH both live streamed via Instagram. Basically checking out the facilities and just cheesing from ear to ear! If there has been a positive from all this damn waiting it’s the energy these new recruits are exuding. STUDS!
Didn’t want to start a new thread and this is related to coaching as it will give support staff the opportunity to openly contribute in practices (Blair Schaefer ).
@loyallonghorn @Ellis21d I'll say this... I have never thought for one minute that the work to complete our staff is at the standstill it appears to be. I believe things are being worked out behind the scenes. Several things going on right now that could be factoring into our equation, and none the least of which is the one-time waiver to allow staffers in administrative roles to coach and instruct in practices. Think about that real closely and there are some really great possibilities. I don't like to lay out my speculations in full with specifics, because that's all they are -- speculations. However, at the very least, there sure are some very interesting coincidences right now.
Baylor hires assistant coach from Marquette: WBB’s Collen Adds Marquette’s Greene as Assistant Coach - Baylor University Athletics
This has been a done deal for some time now... so evidently there are things that have to be all neat and tidy before announcements are made. Hopefully we'll be hearing more about our staff sooner than later. Messer Named Associate Head Coach for Women's Basketball - LSU Tigers
There was some truth to that. But like all of us, we tolerate things at work when we see a greater good or in this case (money too good to pass up)
Ok Vic it’s about time to generate some buzz on Hornfans by announcing your new Coach today! You make the announcement and we’ll bring the energy and tell you if you made the right decision or not! If there’s one thing we have on this site it’s an opinion. Lots and lots of, expert by the way, opinions.
The progression of my thoughts on the timing of hiring a new coach. It will be great to have a new coach named before the freshman report to campus, the June 30th Elite camp, the July 1st transfer deadline, the start of the season.
April Phillips hired as new assistant. Women’s Basketball announces April Phillips as assistant coach - University of Texas Athletics
Not sure what to think. She basically has 3 seasons of coaching experience in a P5 conference. For all the 10 weeks that passed by since Johnnie's departure, I was thinking that the "wait" was due to someone having to tie up some loose ends at their current place of employment; doesn't seem like that was the case. I would have preferred Katie Faulkner from Oregon State who ended up getting hired at Washington.
She was hired at Arizona in April, so prying her away from the National runner-up is a good sign. I like that Adia Barnes wanted her back in Tucson after that run: Maybe not earth-shattering, but still a solid hire IMO.
BOOM! I like it! I like everything about her. I really trust Vic's judgement on this and she fits the mold of current social thinking. She will be a home run hire! I was still hoping that Nneka would end up in the mix somewhere and come back to Texas.
Well, after Arizona's season, Adia Barnes lost two of her assistant coaches to Mississippi State and Oregon, respectively, to lateral positions, I believe. She hired replacements from USC and Cal. Arizona just doesn't pay well. So, if Arizona announced her hiring on April 21, and Johnnie's vacancy occurred since late March / early April, it doesn't sound like Phillips was Vic's first choice; there's really no other way to spin it. Arizona Hires April Phillips & Erin Grant as Assistant Coaches - University of Arizona Athletics
Do we have a full staff now? That would make me feel better - then they can really move ahead towards the new season.
Coaches yes but I think there are 2 open support staff positions: Video Coordinator (Dom Dillingham became the Director of Player Development) and I don’t think Kristen Grant (new Director of Video & Recruting Digital Services) would cover those duties. Grad Manager/Assistant now that Jazz Holmes is the Coordinator of Player Development.
She has a very solid resume and the great thing for me having Vic as the Head Coach is that I trust his decisions. I dare say, Vic wants to win more than any of us in this forum. He’s been pretty darn successful at it to this point. I suspect we’ll look back on this as one of his best decisions.
