With Tre Gilbert on board what do you guys and girls project for a starting lineup? I like the four holdovers from last year’s team. A Jones a starter? Cunningham would appear to be a Beard type player. With Febres and Ramey and the incoming transfers, Texas should have some serious depth in the backcourt. Hopefully all the players are on campus this summer and building cohesiveness. What is your confidence level about this coming season? With me, I think it will all start at the point guard position. How good will that guy be, distributing and taking care of the ball. Shaka learned that lesson the hard way in just his second season as Texas coach. Go Horns!

I think you mean Tre Mitchell...I think the starting 5 will be: Ramey, Jones, Allen, Disu and Mitchell....Askew will get a shot at major PG minutes. Bishop will be the first off the bench to keep the Bigs fresh. Febres will hopefully fill the Vinnie Johnson role. Tyson will be brought along slowly. Cunningham and Benson are reinforcements.

If Sims stays I see him and Mitchell both starting.

Seems to me we got Mitchell because Beard doesn't think Sims will stay. I'd sure love to have Jericho back for one more season though.

Or, Beard is sending the signal that he wants to win now and if Sims stays, then he'll have a great year with a great team. And he's in college! Sounds like a good time to me.

Oh yeah... tests and finals... right... that kind of takes the steam out of it a bit I guess.

I don’t know Beard’s results will be on the court, but I can say now what he did in the portal has been awesome. What a difference he has made with going out to get talent. We lost quite a bit of players for various reasons but he wants to win NOW.
    Good job coach.

His aggression and commitment is amazing given the upheaval in his personal life. Imagine how he will be once he's settles in with a home and a routine that is not about room service and lonely hotel rooms.

Does anyone know what Beards aspirations may be toward an NBA job?? I am sure teams would come sniffing should he do something great with a team of this nature.

In terms of talent at the 2 positions, I'd rank them like this:

    F
    Allen
    Mitchell
    (Sims)
    Disu
    Bishop
    Cunningham

    G
    Jones
    Ramey
    Askew
    Tyson
    Febres

But in terms of lineups, it really depends on what the other team is throwing at us and how comfortable Beard is with "certain" people out on the floor, like Ramey. I bet we'll even see some weird three-forward lineups like 1980s NBA teams.

My best guess for the opener if everyone is healthy would be Mitchell Allen Jones Ramey Askew as the ones on the floor, with Disu being the most likely candidate to get minutes from Allen's spot or the wing like Kai Jones did. But I also wouldn't be surprised if you swapped out Askew for Cunningham to have a banger out there who plays 15 minutes per game and then quickly gets subbed when we need to go back to a 3-guard lineup.

Don't sleep on Bishop. He kind of does all of those things that Cunningham does to frustrate opponents on the defensive end, in addition to actually being able to score.

I don't want to get too excited about Tyson, because his film reminds me of Donovan Williams and he flamed out. Febres will continue to serve one purpose. If Sims comes back... man. I don't know how many minutes we can find for the forwards.
