Dallas Night Life in the 1970's

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

Hey, it's the off season and the Horns are sadly out of the CWS. We are weeks away from Horns football.

So, I was talking with an old friend Sat. that also experienced and enjoyed a post college life as a single in North Dallas. We talked about many clubs and restaurants we remembered and frequented.

I lived in several Village complexes on Greenville Ave. with college buddies and by myself while working for a major bank downtown.

So, I thought it might be interesting and fun to create a thread and see if anyone here had good memories of those times and these places:

    TGIF Friday's in Old Town
    LouAnn's
    Up your Alley
    Popsicle Toes
    Icabod's
    Carlos & Pepe
    Bobby McGee's
    Daddy's Money
    Old Theatre
    # 3 Lift
    Baby Doe's
    The Point
    Strictly Tabu
    Elon' or Elan'?
    Magic Time Machine
    Diamond Jim's
    Campisi's
    Cafe Dallas
    Cowboy's
    Confetti
    Dallas Playboy Club

There were 2 places I could not remember the name of - one bar in Old Town Village owned by 2 Dallas Cowboys that I really liked. The other I could not remember the name of was around Campbell Center that I frequently saw Tony Dorsett at picking up low hanging fruit!

There were more places that came and went over the 70's .... these were just a few we remembered.

    Worster,

Lance McFadden (??) owned Packards, Studebakers, Cowboys, and several other places on Greenville Ave. He told me one time that he plugged 7 figures into remodeling, made that back in three months, profit came in next three, then he started planning what the new venue would be in 6-9 months.

Several Cowboys owned that bar at Inwood & Cedar Springs (NW corner kinda behind the stop and steal)

Craig Morton had that place (maybe with a couple of others) over by Bachman Lake.

You're not old enough to remember the Studio Club owned by Marc Lee

Kenny Daniels at his finest, but I couldn't find them doing Gloria - the ultimate Gator song

I remember The Dallas Cowboys offices, the Playboy Club, and Trader Vics being in the same building on Mockingbird. What could go wrong eh?!?

Loved Campisi's. Went after every Tornado soccer match at old Ownby as a kid. Still a must every time I am back in Dallas as the grandkids carry on the love.

Was too young to do clubs in the 70's. But early 80's saw us spending loads of time at the Agora Ballroom, Papaguyo (not a fan of disco then but that is where we knew the girls would be), and as the night wore down there was Cardi's.

I miss Baby Doe's terribly and have heard that Magic Time Machine is in serious decline. Hate to hear that as so many great times were had there. Also loved the Railhead, Prime and Wine, and Lil' Italianos in Medallion Center.

But hey, we still got Kellers!!

H.P. Cassidy's was the name of the place in Old Town I could not remember the name of. My recollection was 1 or more of the Dallas Cowboy players owned it. I really like that place.

Yeah, I left Studebakers and Cowboy off my list - visited both a few times. Don't recall Packards?

That was the other place I was trying to remember the name of - close to Campbell Center at the time. Seemed like the place was round with bar in the center? Remember seeing Tony Dorsett there several times.... always a bunch of women around him.

Packards was Studebakers Dos. Owned by same guy with same concept, but kinda like GE & Hot Point. People would hate GE appliances but swear by Hot Point. Same owners, same equipment. He said people would get pissed at Studebakers and never go back, but would be in Packards three nights a week.
