I was thinking about all the crazy changes to college football and the things that made me love it when was a child. The biggest thing that I miss is they don't show the bands at half time. I really am quite irritated about that loss. So I was thinking as long as you have all these channels and you have the cameras there anyway, why not live stream and record the half time performance of the bands and either migrate them to a different "band channel" or direct people to the talking head half time channel and broadcast the bands. Really, I mean it.
I'd much rather see and hear the bands than see and hear the bobble head dolls. I'd much rather stare and listen to poop dry in the sun, really, so....
To the best of my knowledge, the Rose Bowl is the only game all year that shows the bands at halftime. Granted, they only show about half of their performances. But that's part of what makes the Rose Bowl special; they "get it" and understand what makes college football special.
TBH, most bands are crap. There are only about 4 or 5 that I'd care to see. And it's not like their renditions of popular music are that good either. If I were wishing, I'd like to see artificial turf and indoor stadiums eliminated for CFB.
True. For example, that bunch of mentally challenged, fake army, buzz cut jackwagons that goose step all over Pyle Field are the least musically talented group of turds anybody will ever have the displeasure to witness.
Actually, if you can speed it up 2x or 3x and replace their music with the Benny Hill music, it’s kind of entertaining.
I think you're being overly harsh. When they're goose stepping around in one of those sideline to sideline formations to the Patton theme, you gotta admit, it's pretty impressive. You may not like them, who does, but their band is pretty damn good.
So I am not convincing so I am calling reinforcements (Erin Andrews) and FWIW I love the Rice Marching Band, Grambling, LSU (neck), Stanford, Southern, TSU, Ball High - Galveston, really all of them.
The A&M band's halftime show bears a striking resemblance to what my high school band did as a warm-up drill, called "sweeps". It's not particularly challenging. Even so, I'd rather watch that than the talking heads.
Okay, time out here. When did TV show the entire halftime shows vs highlights and droning from the talking buffoons? Are we talking decades, maybe even back to the 60s?
Through the mid-1970s, ABC would at least show the bands on the field while superimposing current scores from other games being played that afternoon. Not the whole band show, probably just a couple minutes worth. By the 1980s it was less bands and more talking heads in the studio. (At least, that's what I recall)
I can say that last year without the band was uncool. They were missed by at least two of us, me and wife.
I believe it is NBC that televises Southern vs Grambling from the SuperDome, and televises the entire halftime battle of the bands. I don't watch the game but tape it to watch the halftime. I have had a set halftime routine in Memorial Stadium for decades, and rarely have seen the LHB, BUT NEVER missed the MOB in Memorial Stadium. While few people watch the bands on TV, those kids put in a lot of hard work and should learn early from that experience that $$$ drives the train, and there are no sponsors willing to pay that much money to watch halftime. While many may object to my routine, if I'm watching on TV, I'd damn site rather watch the LHB than the overbearing talking heads trying to prove their IQ is greater than their belt size.
Sangre, I respectfully disagree. The A&M band does a precision marching theme to their shows, in contrast to the Show Band of the Southwest. And they both do well executing their themes. To each his own. There are some other shows worth watching - Southern/Grambling comes to mind. It's always fun to watch the MOB. Stanford is worth watching, as is Ohio State. And I get sick and tired of watching the talking heads trying to interpret the first half.
If NIL started applying to bands, perhaps there’s a certain new twirler who could really cash in $$$.
Hey, there are some aggy reading these threads. Do you really expect me to say anything even remotely positive about them?
I hear you, Sangre. I was just stating my opinion about their band. Having said that, they're still aggy.
I am having flashbacks to a bad place but last year when the band would not play the Eyes because of some kind of bs woke non sense I was truly hurt by this nonsense and bad decision making. Bands are a big part of the identity of all colleges. Without the tOSU dotting the I and similar band identities, many college football teams are nothing more than Texas kids lost in the wilderness.
I always like the Michigan band and their high strutting drum major. He/she has to be able to bend over backwards and touch the field with the top of their head. About 1:30 on this video. .
Btw, I think they used to show the LHB and FTAB halftime many decades ago (when that was about the only game being played on Thanksgiving Day). (in 1999 the Austin ABC affiliate pre-empted the national coverage of the game to telecast the entire halftime, without commentary)
