Trev just avoided the buyout, but who can he get to take the job? If Campbell rejected a gazillion dollars from Detroit, he ain't likely moving to Lincoln for less, but is the most logical and best choice.

    Next up, Herm Edwards

Does anything warrant the NCAA death penalty anymore?

Lincoln just revealed the 2022 Navigator this morning, so I'm going to say everything is good with Lincoln.

If you're going to cheat, you'd better win. Otherwise, why bother?

They should hire the ou boosters as consultants - ou certainly knows how to win when they cheat!

This is pretty minor stuff and is likely a "get out of jail free" card for Trev Alberts who just took the job as AD. It puts Scott Frost on notice that NU could try to void the contract if he doesn't win and Alberts is not at fault for what occurred under Bill Moos.

FWIW when I see Nebraska in the news, I keep thinking Texas and OU insist that Nebraska get back on the schedule asap. Nebraska should play Ou on Thanksgiving Friday, as God intended. Life Ould be better for everyone. As far as this violation, this really is petty, my two cents.

I agree. Nebraska will play OU in OOC play this year but this once every 15 years BS is for the birds. Given how little SEC play Power 5 schools OOC I'm expecting this to become an every 25 year matchup.

Hey count me in for NU and ou renewing their rivalry every Thanksgiving - regardless of conference affiliation!

I will never forget being on a family "vacation" at a Texas park camp ground over the Thanksgiving weekend 1971. Too long ago - don't even remember the park 50 years later.

My UT graduate Dad, who loved college football, managed to get a small black & white TV to get a signal in the park to watch that epic 1971 NU - ou game! He put the TV on a picnic table and we watched it!

    Hell of a game!!!

To this day I do not now how he did it.. rest his soul.

Yes, rest his soul. I have similar stories. Some involve a mirror and a tv that was not in focus and spinning around. I know I dare to dream, but some things were better a while back, and playing meaningless games against meaningless opponents on meaningless days were none of those things.

Nebraska isn't even a shadow of its former self. They haven’t been a nationally feared program in over two decades & haven’t had a winning season in 4.

What do you do here if you’re them? With the loss of the walk on / partial qualifier system that sustained them they’re a nowhere school in a ‘what have you done lately’ world with short memories. Few if any playing CFB were even born when Nebraska was relevant. With few in-state recruiting resources or advantages, they’re Iowa State but with a rich & fading history.

Frost is their Kliff Kingsbury but even the latter proved to not be enough for his alma mater. What do you do if you’re them? Money-whip Campbell & fight off suitors because this does seem to be his geography & it fits his turnaround style? It is an upgrade over ISU.

Seems like that’s the type of coach they need. They don’t grow on trees.

    Sapo,

When remembering the demise of Nebraska football, you are correct that not having 200/225 players on scholarship and not having the substandard academic requirements hurt them immensely, BUT I submit neither hurt them as bad as not having the biggest supply of steroids in D-1. (Yes, boys & girls, bigger than Baylor, although while Nebraska ruined plenty of kids lives, they never killed anyone to my knowledge.)

What is this infatuation with Campbell? He's done some impressive things at ISU but I've yet to read or talk to any Nebraska fans that feel we have to have him.

Just my thoughts, Nebraska has been a turnstile of coaches since TO left. If Frost can't turn around the program and get it back to prominence (Not NCs but competing for division/conference championships) then nobody can. It's not because I believe in Frost but rather he has all the skills, the resume and ties to Nebraska. He has every advantage that no outsider could hope to have. Changing the coach after 4 years again will just be another turnstile resetting the clock on more mediocrity. It's time to look inward and make this work. The fan support is still there even if unrealistic expectations. The facilities and $$ support still exists, much more than all but ~15 other programs nationally. Simply need to find the next differentiator.

    SH,

I agree about Frost, but I do not trust Alberts as far as I can throw him. DO they get along? Can they work together? Is your AD's ego so big is has to have a guy he chose as opposed to one he inherited?

If a a change is to be made, I know who I would go after, but who would be your choice?

just being honest, SH. Nu will never be what it was before. No recruiting base, bouncing from one conference to another bringing no success. There's no "there, there" for NU anymore. Not being mean, and it would be cool to see them "back", but I don't see it.

Lot of us here in 2010 predicted 'Nebraska mediocrity' upon their leaving. It was pretty easy to predict.

True. But he did sit his Heisman Trophy on display at his court appearance for threatening a tv repairman with a gun. Dr Tom no doubt gave the sage advice....

Y'all have had a bit more success than we have had but point taken. That time when we were both competing for Conference titles is way tooooooo long ago. 2012 was our last trip (and only) to a B1G title game.

It is shocking how far NU has fallen. That team with Tommy Frazier may have been one of the best I've ever seen.

Agree. The 1995 team must be considered among the best college teams. If I recall correctly, their closest win was 14 points over Washington. And the National Championship game against Florida was 62-24, and it wasn't as close as the score indicates. The TD run by Frazier where about 8 Florida players had a chance to tackle him was absolutely jaw-dropping.

I attended that game and was in such a state of euforia that I asked my wife to marry me that night. The Florida fans were sooooo confident as they had Weurfel and on paper the best offense college football had ever seen. One guy turned around and did the "Gator chomp" in my face when Florida jumped out to a 10-3 lead. Then the 28 2nd quarter onslaught occurred. That dude disappeared at halftime never returning to his seat. From then on the Florida fans that stuck around looked like someone stole their lunch money. The ones that stuck around did congratulate us after the game.

Ok I am a dreamer but I think Nebraska could turn it around by leaving the BIG and going to SEC and renewing old rivalries with Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma. (and to a loser extent agie. The Big puts an asterisk after Nebraska every time their talking heads talk. renewed rivalries of the past could renew interest in recruits and possibly help their California pipeline. Like I said dare to dream.
