I somehow scored east side 50 yd line seats 19th row and am headed up tomorrow for my rookie visit. Do any of you veterans have any tips?

I got an email from the university and they are doing the red/white sections so the visual should be pretty good.

Considering things I've read over the years here I have a few obvious questions:

Is there a preferred place to park so my vehicle with Texas plates doesn't get vandalized?
Who is going and is anyone going to tailgate?
Are there any places to eat that I just can't leave town without eating there?
On the radio it was suggested not to wear orange if I want to enjoy the trip. What say you?

They sure know Texans are coming because every hotel is 3x or 4x the normal price and almost all sold out.

Went in 2004 so experienced but not really a veteran...

Is there a preferred place to park so my vehicle with Texas plates doesn't get vandalized? - Texarkana is as far east as you can safely park.
Who is going and is anyone going to tailgate? - Sadly not me.
Are there any places to eat that I just can't leave town without eating there? - No, it's Fayettenam not NYC.
On the radio it was suggested not to wear orange if I want to enjoy the trip. What say you? F that. Wear orange, but expect 10 year olds to come yell at you and prepare mentally to watch Arkansas state troopers run over Texas flags (both state of and university of).

Even if there is no chance of rain, take a poncho. The poncho will protect you from the ice when you go to the restroom or concessions.

I don't think Fayettenam is near as bad as it used to be since the students are all from Dallas.
That being said the locals and non students could give you some grief. At least they are used to losing, so when we kick their *** they won't be surprised.

^^ This. They'll expect the loss and be quiet after Texas wins. Then they're all from the state of Texas so they're jealous of you.

Fayetteville is better than Little Rock. The fans are worse when pig wins than when they lose.

Have your route to Oklahoma memorized and don't stop for any lights until you cross the state line.

Checking in safe and still alive. :smile1: They have the stadium lit with red lights. As I was driving into town there was a red glow and for a minute I thought there was a fire.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to tomorrow!

Damn, if I can find a Sombrero I'll buy it! If I'm in a white shirt section I'll stand out like a sore thumb and be easily found.

GameDay update: These people are docile and have completely forgotten anything about hating us. We've been walking around now for about 4 hours and hanging out at a couple establishments and everyone is so nice I'm almost disappointed. Just a few friendly horns down and absolutely no hate.....yet.

We are however about so sit in the middle of their season ticket area so we'll see if that continues.

As we were getting to the gate a student in an Arkansas shirt flashed a Hook 'Em and said he bleeds orange. He said he had to wear red because he goes to school here. Must be a lot of Texans up here.

When my son was in high school, a number of his classmates and members of his Boy Scout Troop tried to get into Texas / ATM. Some were National Merit Finalists. From what the parents said, Arkansas and OU offered full scholarships and in some cases a small stipend depending on the program. The Texas schools offered partial scholarships.

While I cannot verify the information, the same story came from parents who, to my knowledge, did not know each other. Some of the boys in the Troop went to different schools so there was little to no contact between many of the parents.

The families had no ties to Arkansas or OU, but financially it made sense to them.

It got pretty nasty in the 3rd qtr as the fat drunk arkies shirts came off so we left at the end of the 3rd. Escaped without harm but they weren't as cordial with a big lead and a quart of whiskey in them. I couldn't possibly imagine walking with them for almost a mile to my car right through campus. Eeeew.

    Vol,

They are bordering on having more students from Texas than from Arkansas. So much that they waive out of state tuition for kids from Texas.

    Be safe driving home

Thanks Worster! We parked far enough out I felt like we were outside of the shrapnel zone so no damage at all. Getting out of town early this morning to get back into Texas as soon as we can. :smile1:

FWIW, Oklahoma roads are still some of the worst I've ever driven on.

Have you been off the Interstates in New Mexico and Arizona lately?

I don't know what the government spends tax receipts on in Oklahoma, but I know what they don't spend receipts on - VolHorn is absolutely correct; the roads in Oklahoma are horrible. They have upgraded I-35 from OKC to the Red River, and are still working on I-35 from OKC to the Kansas border, but other than those, the roads are awful. I-40 from OKC to the Arkansas border must be the worst stretch of Interstate in the country.
While I was in the USAF, I was stationed in Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona - and Oklahoma has by far the worst highways.

After a disaster like last night, I would likely have taken the toll road out of Shiloam Springs to Tulsa and down the freeways unless you are in northeast Texas, then down Fort Smith, Waldron, Mena

Wish I knew you were there. Would have bought you a beer. I echo your view. Most fans I met were nice and welcoming. Older ones liked talking about the history of the rivalry. Had a few drunk students acting up after, but all in all pretty nice folks. We also were with two Texas Exes whose kids attend school there.

Getting out of the stadium was horrible (2 hours to go maybe 5 miles) and the concessions near the visitor section was awful. I tried to get a beer late in the second. Got back to my seat 5 minutes into the 3rd.

Glad I went. I just wish the football team came too.

YES! We were out of Arkansas by 8am. Leaving that early roads were pretty empty most of the way back.
