The long ball Casey threw, was that the one in the EZ? Cause if it was the defender actually grabbed the jersey and pulled the receiver (was it Worthy) before the ball got there. You had to look quickly to see it because wasn’t identified by tv morons (although they did see the obvious targeting). Not sure but I’m thinking the pass would have been much closer without that pull.

While I love the pedigree, character and humility of the man, Steve Sarkisian had a terrible night — worse than any of his players. His inability to adjust to and be completely unprepared for Arkansas’ three-man front is an absolute shocker. Again, our coach is considered to be one of the best offensive minds in the game, if not the best. So what happened?

As I’ve said in other threads, while the 0-Line played poorly, the D-Line failed and special teams were a disaster, to me the huge story is the inability of the head coach to recognize what he was facing and make adjustments. Again, that is shocking.

I believe that we lost to an inferior team last night. Why does that happen? It happens because Arkansas was more motivated, better prepared, and their schemes totally befuddled us. So the question is, was last night an aberration, or an indication of a problem? We really don’t know.

If Sark starts Thompson Saturday, my expectations will remain high. However, if he sticks with Card, I will be troubled and concerned that we might lose 4 or 5 games.

Lets all remember that the most consistent prediction for this team going in was 8-4. Did everyone here have Ark as a W before the first game was played? Lets not panic yet.

NONE! It was Arkansas, who hates Texas maybe more than OU does. Pittman has and is receiving criticism for taking a knee. They wanted as much of Casey as they could pound. No let up.

It's not 8 - 4. It's how outclassed we were. It was a bad loss. All pride was sucked out of the program for the moment. They were put in their place.

There are bad losses and losses where you clearly show you belong on the field. We were the former. We received no grudging respect from an opponent after the game. They laughed.

Noted with interest that on the LHN right after the game the Arkansas fans were taunting our guys as they headed into the tunnel. A couple of our guys flashed the Hook Em at them

the Tech game will dictate how the rest of the season goes morale wise. We lose that one and there could be some evaporation

That is a good point. This team was caught unprepared for the amount of energy Arkansas threw at them. The O-line was an abomination, but we had some indication that it was a weak point prior to the season, and the conformation came glaringly true in Fayetteville yesterday. But fingers can't be pointed solely at the O-line. Cards play was pathetic and he was left in the game way too long. Thompson moved the team and scored 2 TD using his own legs, at least I believe it was 2 TDs. Our DLs were pushed out of the way, the LB were not much better, looked like most of the stops were by the guys in the secondary. Arkansas finished with 333 yards on the ground. That is pathetic!

The coaches and the team as a whole has a great deal of work to do. Tech will be chomping to get after us, so will TCU and especially OU.

Right. 100 would not have been too many for those inbreds. I do believe the hatred for Texas by people in Arkansas far exceeds that of Oklahoma. I have known OU fans who say they pull for Texas in some games. There will be none of that in Arkansas. Their hatred runs deep like an Aggies. At least some Aggie families are split.

Was it Abe Lemons who said Texas playing them at home was like parachuting behind enemy lines? I did not see the second half but did they not storm the field after the game? That says it all. They are bred to hate orange.

As far as a reset of expectations, before the season my expectation was we might go 9-3, but also a 7-5 finish could happen. That was based in part on the QB position. Neither QB has had significant playing time and Card showed it in Fayetteville. I kept thinking that Sark would put in Thompson in the second quarter. He didn't and it wasn't until late in the game Thompson took over. He ran in two TDs but by then, it was way too late. At this point, hopefully, Sark will go with Thompson as the starter and let Card play once we have a lead, if we get a lead. The O-line was poor, D-line was poor, special teams were poor. I saw two long passes to open receivers dropped. This can't keep happening or the season could be worse that the Chuck Strong years. I hope the coaches do better homework and preparation as well as working our guys up into a frenzy in the pregame the rest of the season.

I saw this on the Longhorns Wire. It's a fairly accurate description of the Horns' performance up in Fayetteville on Saturday:

"There was not really a single positive to take away from the game. The offensive line looked horrendous, and absolutely needs to be mixed up. The wide receivers were dropping passes all game long, and making life even more difficult on the quarterbacks. The defense as a whole was exposed by Arkansas’ rushing attack, and Cameron Dicker has again proven to be one of the most inconsistent kickers/punters in the nation."

I kept laughing at the announcer who was talking about Card's long miss throws. He was saying because of the spin of the ball that the ball was moving right and that Card needed to account for that if he wanted to make an accurate throw. And he said it three times. :lmao:

Now if Sark starts Thompson against Rice or the rest of the season would he be admitting he was wrong. Does he have the humility to do it?Card may have the physical ability but he is not ready for prime time mentally.

I don't think Sark would have problem admitting "he was wrong", but I do not expect him to answer that question should some overwhelming stupid **** reporter ask it.

Was he wrong? NO! Decision made on practices, which none of us, nor any of the media attended.

Was it the wrong decision? Yes

If some reporter asks that question, I hope his credentials are pulled.

It was Royal's assistant coach, Mike Campbell, who said playing in Fayetteville was like "parachuting into Russia".

Agree 100% with Sabre with one proviso. The proviso is some exceptional athletes look like crap in practice but turn on the lights in competition and they become all world. Being able to see and capitalize on this phenomenon separates the great coaches from the good coaches. This is why winning at all levels is an all-important, but often overlooked trait as you cannot measure HEART and DESIRE.

I recall three long throws from him. One was right on-target and dropped by the WR. The other was off-target a bit and tough to catch, but still catchable. The other was not catchable.

I only recall one long throw from Casey, which was uncatchable. He did hit several nice mid-range throws on his second drive though. His first drive, a wide screen was his only completion, because the DL was breaking through so far that whenever he dropped back to pass he had to just immediately take off running. I think he'd been watching carefully and noticed "If I hold the ball to wait for somebody to get open, I'll get sacked or have to throw it away - so I'm just gonna take the free 4-6 yards whenever there's pressure".

You have to stay with Card, Casey might be better but a lot of pick 6's say different in scrimmages. Plus we aren't winning anything that matters anytime soon so get him reps so he's ready to compete in 2024. Just like Herman staying with Sam when he was losing us games as a freshman you have to stay with the younger guy. Especially with our QB room and no help coming next year. Casey graduates, he's gone this year no matter what where there's no competition. If you lose Card, you have 2 walk ons and an incoming freshman who is 3 years away at least from playing.

Yeah missed Worthy really bad, the ball to Moore was off but Moore made zero reaction to the ball (good WR probably catches that), and JWhit was hit in hands.

AC there is not much to do up there in NW AR other than :e-football: and swimming/camping. They tend to be rabid fans as a result. I’d avoid the neighbors given the same situation!

Maybe Sark didn't make the decision. It was made for him, BMD make the decisions around here. If the talent level is nearly the same, but the experience of CT should outweigh the slight talent advantage of Card.

I've been thinking about this a lot since watching
I have been thinking about this a lot since Saturday night. Before the season I made the comment that I just wanted the one that could win now to be on the field. Then after this weekend I started doubting myself about needing to get Hudson developed for the long haul through playing experience.

I'm going to stick with whoever can give us the best chance to win now which is Casey. It's pretty clear to me the offensive line is terrible and it was also VERY clear to me that Hudson was shell shocked in that environment and couldn't make good decisions nor quickly find the open receivers.

If they were so close it took Sark 8 months to settle on the starter then moving to Casey simply for his scrambling ability given the pathetic O-line then I believe Casey can take over and give the team a better chance to move the ball. As the other half of my preseason comment went, Hudson can develop from the practice squad and get playing time when he can. I felt like Sark is trying to force his game style onto the players he has instead of fitting the game plan around who he currently has.

Other things I saw from my seat. Casey was roaming the sidelines the entire game talking to the offense trying to pump them up when the D was on the field. While the defense was on the field in the 3rd quarter I saw the o-line sitting away from the team on about the 30 yardline by themselves (which I thought was pretty odd) but Casey walked down, hit each of them on the shoulder and was saying something to try to get them pumped up. Also, every time the offense was going on the field he would put on his helmet and get into the sideline huddle.

Anyway, besides the scrambling ability I feel like Casey has traits on gameday that just exudes leadership to me and he should be the starter on Saturday against Rice. Just my opinion.

    Handler,

Casey has already graduated in three years, two years left to play. As I tried to use coach speak to convey, but since it didn't work, Stevie Wonder could see that there is a "pickup" in effort & attitude when Casey comes on the field. Not sure why, but it was there in San Antonio & in Fayetteville.

Time for the QB guru to develop a quarterback regardless of his name.

As pitiful as the o-line play was on Saturday I really expected more questions for Sark regarding it, but there really weren't that many. I was hoping someone would ask him what the thought process was behind calling a 4th-down running play behind a line that was getting absolutely destroyed up until that point.

I think there can be different opinions on who should start at qb but the main problem is the ol. It was weak in the first game and weak in the second game. If the ol was doing it’s job either qb would have been able to execute and we would have been able to establish a good running game which opens up the passing game. Having said that, with the porous ol it’s probably better Casey plays more as he is more elusive. It seems every year ol is an issue. I was surprised with the defense and how ark ran the ball. I really thought that would be a strength. Probably we just weren’t ready to play and match ark emotion.
