Mississippi State got screwed by the refs on this play. Can't believe they didn't review and reverse the TD by Memphis. Clearly the State player touched the ball and knocked it back and then the other State player touched it dead around the 7 yd line.

The University of Arizona just down the street posted another loss today against Northern Arizona, 21-19. They haven't won a game since October of 2019 when my daughter and I went to see them play Texas Tech. Since then, they have lost every game and are 0-15 since their last win when they started 2019 with a 4-1 record. Over the last 3 seasons, they are 4-16. Talk about a program in the crapper, they are it! I'm surprised the aggys haven't tried to schedule them. Seems like the type of opponent they would want to tangle with.

PS: Tickets to a UofA game are cheap. I was down that way earlier and I guy offered me two 45 yard line seats for $5 each. So, I told him, "Ok, gimme 10 bucks and I'll take 'em off your hands." He said no, he wanted ME to pay HIM $10. No way! So, I told him to take a hike.

This happened on the same play as the punt.

Apparently the whistle had not been blown?

The ball should not have been considered dead. No player on the punting team possessed it, and the ball didn't come to a stop without an attempt to possess it either. However, the head ref did make the "stop the clock, play is over" hand signal despite not blowing a whistle.

So I'd argue the refs made two different mistakes that cancelled each other out (signaling the play dead when it should have stayed live, and then failing to review that the play had been signaled dead) and the end result of the play was the correct one.

He’s the new “It” guy out West. He may single handedly put out the USC dumpster fire. There’s now some competition in the oft-maligned PAC conference. Oregon looks very strong, but it won’t be a cakewalk this year.

But it wasn't the correct result. There should have been a penalty before that play even transpired. It would have given them 4th and 1.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but the late UCLA-Fresno State game had an incredible finish.

With about 9:00 minutes left in the game Fresno State was up by 9 and driving for a nail in the coffin touchdown. On about the UCLA 10 the ball gets knocked out of the quarterback’s hand and UCLA ultimately recovers (it bounced around) at about their own 45. They drive down to score a touchdown, shrinking the lead to 2. Kick off and on the first or second down, Fresno State completes a first down pass but the defenders hold up the freshman receiver and strip the ball, and UCLA later scores. So, within about two minutes, UCLA scores two touchdowns to take the lead.

Now it gets even more interesting. The Fresno State quarterback, who had a career game (39 for 53, 455) took the kick off and drove Fresno State down the field to score the lead touchdown. They kicked off and with 2-3 minutes left. UCLA drives down to score a touchdown to take the lead back. Next, with about 56 seven seconds left, Fresno State’s quarterback — who could hardly walk because of a hit to his back earlier in the quarter — drove Fresno State down and scored the winning touchdown with 14 seconds left.

    It was something to behold.

Wow. Talk about some offensive firepower. UCLA could spoil things for Oregon or USC. They’re looking a lot better than they have in recent years. Sounds like their D got used yesterday though.

Oh, that's true. So MSU might have gotten screwed after all, just not in the way everyone is saying they got screwed. :D

No, I think they got screwed by the play we are talking about. How many times have you seen the punt team go down and just touch the ball that is lying on the ground and the ref starts blowing the play dead?

Why do you think the player's were so lackadaisical about it? Because, it is almost always played out that way. If it were more common on what happened then players would have went down and clearly made sure that the ball was secured.

The SEC office was just trying to save face with their lame statement that technically the rules state that this but our refs finally decided to abid by it...our bad.

A Miss St player with his knee on the ground put his hand on the ball. The play is dead. It doesn't get more simple.

Why does a lazy effort by MSU get excused when a player from another team pounced on the opportunity? My guess is that something happened beforehand that tipped off the Memphis player to grab the ball. Maybe the MSU players are dumb?

How about this stupidity from the Texans yesterday. They ran for 14 yards on 3rd and 15, but there was an offside penalty on the defense so they had the option to replay the down from 5 yards closer. They declined it, preferring the 4th and 1 - but then punted!

I get if you don't want to go for it on 4th down there, but if not, then take the replay of 3rd down instead. As it was, effectively Houston chose to punt on 3rd and 10.

This sounds like Nebraska fans in 2009.

"We got screwed by that play with 1 second left. How many times have you seen an incomplete pass or an out of bounds play or turnover where the clock should stop by the ref lets an extra second or two tick off? The Big 12 was just trying to save face with their lame statement that the rules technically say Texas should have indeed have had that final second."

    Worster,

FSU started as Florida Normal College for Women. As my son likes to say, the State of Florida took their school for wayward girls and turned it into a school for delinquent boys.

    Same is true of Auburn

I would agree with you but the difference is that the second added back was done after the play was reviewed. To my knowledge, the State play wasn't even reviewed and that is the tragedy especially since they could have reviewed the punt and the two players with the same number on the field.

18 Wisconsin v 12 Notre Dame (at Soldier Field) -- If the Irish win, Brian Kelley will surpass Knute Rockne as the all time winningest ND coach. While I'd like to see the Badgers win, I think Kelley makes history tomorrow.
Take 5: Notre Dame vs. Wisconsin Prediction, Jack Coan, O-Line Play
Game Prediction: #12 Notre Dame vs. #18 Wisconsin

7 aTm v 16 Arkansas -- Both teams can play D. The hogs will generate just enough O to prevail. Bumper Pool will knock them around. That giant Arkansas NT will be tough for the ags to handle as well.

SMU v TCU - Meanwhile, elsewhere in the DFW Metroplex, for the Iron Skillet. Both are undefeated. This game means a whole lot to these schools.
TCU Football vs SMU: Staff Predictions
TCU vs. SMU: Staff Predictions - Sports Illustrated TCU Killer Frogs News, Analysis and More

LSU v Mississippi State - The Pirate raids the bayou people, and I'm not talking Jean Lafitte. LSU is at a weak point. Leach looks to be finally getting it going in Starkville.

24 UCLA at Stanford - another wacky game in a wacky conference. I think the Bruins overpower them on the road.

Clemson v NC State - Clemson.

    Rutgers v Michigan - please...

Okla State v. 25 Kansas State - this is one to watch to see who's who in the Big 12 this year. 2 middle of the packers. Is the now-non-mullet still on top of his game? He'd better be as KSU has a strong coaching staff and will play fundamentally sound football. This little-heralded wildcat squad has inched up into the Top 25.

ISU v Baylor - Campbell has his Cyclones ready to best the Brazos Bears. ISU has already faced one of the top defenses in the nation in Iowa. Purdy and Co. run through the Baylor D.

Nebraska v 20 Mich State - Spartans in a defense-heavy game. Similar to the NU v. U of I game.

UNC v Ga Tech - Mack tries to get things back on track. Fortunately for Mack, he's playing Ga Tech.

OU v WV - a decent WV team tries to slow down OU. Not a cakewalk for the Sooners.

Ariz v Oregon - the worst v the best of the PAC. Look out for an epic butt stompin.

Tennessee at Florida - plenty of facial hair and jorts in the stands.

Penn State v. Villanova - please...

Colorado State v. Iowa - will the Rams get as much as a field goal, or will it be a shutout?

USF at 15 BYU - BYU is another little-heralded team that keeps inching up the rankings. Look for them to stuff Charlie's old squad.

Southern Miss at Bama - looks tighter than it looked at the beginning of the season.

    Cal at UW -

Oregon State at USC - if USC is going places with their new QB and interim coach, they need to destroy Oregon State by 3 TDs +

Colorado at Ariz State - CU's offense really stinks. Look for ASU to win at home. ASU is smarting from a close loss to a pretty good BYU squad.

Washington State at Utah - if I cared, I'd pick Utah.

    Georgia at Vandy - :rolleyes1:

    Clemson at NC State

Illinois at Purdue - a boring smash-em-up between two lower-middle B1G teams. Beliema prevails.

KU at Duke - and NOT in basketball.

Kentucky v South Carolina - much shine will be consumed here.

Akron at Ohio State - :rolleyes1:

Navy at Houston - both teams are a bit down. I don't see the Middies pulling this one off in the Bayou City.

TSU v Rice - finally! A team from Houston that Rice will beat.
