I thought we should give Herman one more year. How wrong I was.

Best case, he would’ve sucked and gotten fired at the end of this season. Worst case, the team would’ve improved just enough to save Herman’s job, and we’d be facing yet another year of meh. There’s no chance the team would show as much promise as we are already seeing under Sark.

^^^This, and TH was a minimum 3 loss coach annually. He did win a major bowl game and three minor bowls, but I didn’t seem him winning the conference nor getting to the NCG playoffs.

Herman had to go. He was arrogant, players didn’t believe in him and they were actively recruiting against him. Had to go.

The cake is baking but a few ingredients may be missing. We'll see if it falls in on itself or is a bit bitter when done.

Herman had to go for his off the field crap, nothing his teams did on the field could make up for that.

Well, had he won a natty I think folks might have rationalized keeping him around. But that wasn't about to happen so yeah, he got his big payday and got shown the door.

I never liked Herman from the start. Besides the fact that he did stupid things like kissing players and mocking that Missouri QB, he didn’t play sound fundamental football. How many times did he turn down a chip shot field goal and went for it and missed on 4th down? How many times did his stupid coaching decisions cost us games? I knew he wasn’t going to work out midway through season 1.

I agree. TH had pretty good results at UofH, but that program wasn't and isn't near the caliber of the UT program. I didn't know how he would do the first season since he inherited Strong's team that posted three straight losing seasons. I expected better results going forward, but he would lose at least 3 games each year, a couple were always to teams he shouldn't. But it wa his arrogance that was a complete turnoff for many fans including myself. He did manage to win 4 straight bowls only one of which was a New Year 6. The nail for me during all of that was his statement about the boosters/donors/fans which was something like, "you've got their front and cheer for them on game days, but not their backs when they need you other times," which was infuriating. The dumb *** didn't take into account that fans, boosters, and donors generally do not have unfettered access to players. That could lead to a disaster with NCAA sanctions down the road. The NCAA's new NIL ruling will change that somewhat going forward. Last year, after the season, my wife and I decided we had seen enough. We had our fill of Herman and if he wasn't replaced, we would stop our donations to the program and surrender our season tix which I have had now for 39 seasons. But it was some statements by CDC while candid, indicated at least to me, TH was about to be canned. Thank God, TH was sent packing in early in January, and CDC hired Sark.

    End of rant . . .

    Joe,

I was all in for Herman, but as I have posted many times, the first red flag for me was when his longtime, close friend refused the pay increase to leave LSU and come be our DC. I voiced then that something was wrong; what? We found out.

For me, it was mocking the Missouri quarterback. How childish. I'm not one of the big donors... just a graduate and his wife. My military experience makes me appreciate humbleness. I never saw it with herman.

Now the Missouri QB deserved to be mocked (he'd done some silly buckle up his suspenders or garter straps or some other childish taunt after 1st downs) - but by the Texas players, not the coach. Can't imagine Saban doing something like that, or a horns down or Gator chomp mock.

When you're the coach, or any other leader, you need to act like you expect to win, and that it's not the biggest accomplishment in the world that you've done your job.

I've never been a "boss" im the traditional sense but have often heard you should never hire your friends or family as you might have to fire them. Makes sense to me.
