Just hit an NFL record 66 yard FG to win Baltimore the game in a walk-off 19-17 over Detroit. Hit it perfectly down the middle and bounced it in off the crossbar. Went 4/5 on the day including both a miss and a make from 50 yds out. Duvernay also caught a 19 yard TD, getting in a fair amount of action after Hollywood Brown dropped 3 passes in the first half, meaning all of the Ravens points were scored by Longhorns.
The hit off the cross-bar had just enough to kick it up and over...340 entries in Circa Survivor (of 2985 remaining) breathed a massive sigh of relief.
Vinatieri still has an argument, but Tucker probably has the best case for greatest kicker in NFL history right now.
ONE more yard and it never clears the cross bar...and there are no points awarded for going UNDER the bar. Well, unless you do like Jacksonville and position someone underneath for a kick-six...
Was my sarcasm more subtle than I realized? The kick hit the freakin' crossbar. Clearly, it didn't have more than a fraction of a football's worth of extra leg.
My reference to "Scoreboard" was (as I thought most Horns recognize) of course to Justin Tucker's clutch game winning 40 yd. field goal vs. Aggies in 2011 as time expired. That's as we (and especially all Farmers) well know was our last gridiron contest with that bunch. That score will hold for a while longer until Horns in SEC. So...Scoreboard.
Justin was just another good kicker in a long list of kickers at Texas who had good to great college careers… Justin only kicked field goals for us 2 yrs if i remember right…Has made himself into a great NFL kicker and could go down as greatest fg kicker ever…
Which kicker was it that kicked a long field goal in the rain against a strong wind? Against what team? I I remember sitting there thinking watching the TV that there's no way he's going to make this field, and yet he did.
No rain in Austin against Virginia. I think it rained in Virginia the next year. It would be Phil Dawson. I was there. Stadium was dead quiet. We were northwest side upper so had to look to the refs to be sure. They looked at each other nodding and started to raise their arms and the place went nuts….don’t know how he cut thru that wind but a long nfl career ensued….
In the rain, during a hurricane with a zombie horde rushing the field and Miley Cyrus twerking right in front of him. Also his mother was yelling in his ear to clean his room. All at the same time. It was simply incredible.
