Vol Horn 4 Life Good Bye To All The Rest!

I've never been there for a game. Is it really only 47k capacity? Even with the high chance of rain I'm thinking of making the trip. Is there a bad seat or being so small is every seat pretty decent given the normal locations?

Wife and I wanted to go there couple years ago but in looking place over we could not see any parking area. We’re we wrong?

The remodel improved the upper deck, which was so steep you were watching the game between your knees. The steps were so small that they were less than half of one of my boots.

I have always preferred to be higher up in the visitors section on the east side, which you share with TCU students.

No. It is a goofy stadium. I almost froze to death in it at Garland playoff game in 1964. If you go and sit in the upper deck, don't jump up. It is quite steep.

The Abilene Cooper/Austin Reagan State Championship Game at Amon Carter may be the coldest I've ever been including mountain tops in Vail, et al.

Coldest I’ve been in was Negative 34F in Utah hunting Mtn Lion, only lasted an hour
Next day tracked a cat for 6 hours in Negative 20F. Was a beautiful sunny day. Wearing heavy wool, sweated my *** off.
Day 3, got the ***** at 10 below.

Yes it's that small (they reduced its capacity a few years ago and then added suites on the E side last year), but it's not a bad stadium. You can have a bad seat, but there are many that are quite good. You feel close. Unless you're in the 400s in the official visitors' section, in which case you might as well be on the moon. Consider earplugs or other hearing protection. Seriously. The scoreboard's speakers play music as loud as any concert I've ever been to and seemingly non-stop. Yes, you're outdoors, but trust me. The little foam things. Put em in your pocket.

No official parking close. All lots are reserved for donors and tailgating. Many neighbors (especially along Highview Terr (due N of stadium) - shows as "Drive" on the map at the link below, but it's Terrace ) park people in their yards (probably $50? for this game). Don't know how enthusiastic they'll be with all the rain we're supposed to get, though. It can get backed up because it's really the main road to the stadium for the donors who park close.

There is remote parking with shuttles. See https://s3.amazonaws.com/gofrogs.com/documents/2021/8/6/TCU_2021_ParkingMap.pdf for info (and addresses) re: it.

I don’t know what it’s like since the remodel, but the upper deck used to feel like you were sitting on the shoulders of the person in front of you. It was downright scary.

    This, This, THIS!!!
I started taking the little foam things to games at DKR several years ago. (I already have partial hearing loss in one ear and am trying to preserve the hearing in the other.)

    TexAnne,

You forgot to mention that the steps were half the size of my boots, so you walked up on your toes and down on your heals.

It's amusing when people disparage stadiums because of their capacity. Some of the nicest EPL team stadiums are the ones that hold 30K-40K.

The EPL is neither English, Premier, nor a League. Discuss.

English? Hardly - too many foreign players
Premier? Hardly - stating the obvious.
League? Hardly - with teams moving in and out.

OK; and agree with the first two. Relegation is a way to keep the bottom-feeders fed (A European thing).

    Very informative post AppDog.

This. At 2019 game, I sat in the West side upper upper deck North end next to those scoreboard speakers where you are talking about. Obnoxiously loud. So loud you had to yell over them to anyone around you.

I told myself if I had tickets up there again I would be taking the little foam ear plugs I have.

It was scary. The remodeled West side upper deck is still steep, but not nearly as bad as that old deck they used to have.
