I think it's time the men's basketball team gets showed some love so I'm starting this thread to discuss the upcoming season!

Starting off with this tweet from Jeff Goodman who was in attendance at today's practice. This obviously won't be the starting lineup at the first game so what is everyone's prediction for the starting lineup?

Those look kind of like skill-based matchups for practice instead of actual "units." For the first group, Carr would be the 1 and Ramey the 2, and with the other group, Askew is the 1 and Jones the 2. But based on talent/needs, three of those four should be out there instead of Febres. Cunningham and Bishop play relatively the same role, so it'd be odd to start both.

I could conceive a situation where we want someone coming off the bench early and then leading the team in minutes at that "position," like if Jones or Ramey was asked to do so.

If Febres is now recovered from his injury, he could be a huge factor. He'll probably have the highest three point shooting %.

One can hope. It seems as though the college game is trying to mimic what the NBA has accomplished as of late, but none of the best 3-point shooters come close to the percentages that NBA'ers are doing. My hope is that Febres can get like 3 catch-and-shoot possessions per game and then play a little bit of defense (i.e. take fouls or charges) so that guys like Carr and Jones don't have to.

In practice the other day, Bishop actually led the team in 3-pointers. And then Disu won some 3-point contest a week or two ago. We have the ability... I'm still waiting for in-game consistency with threes.

Do you think the inconsistency had anything to do with Shaka's severely unstructured offense?

Could be but the wise olé saying, "live by the 3s; die by the 3s" plays a factor. Very few teams can show consistency with the threes.

No, I think it was the players.

I was working on campus when Willie Clay was playing, and he would be draining 30-foot shots in Gregory with 2 (or more) hands in his face and someone else pulling him from behind. With ease, it seemed. He was a big part of Barnes' bench in that first season where we rotated 7 guys plus McColpin.

The man was a career .294 three-point shooter. He later explained to the "help" (us) that even if he could have that kind of freedom to shoot in a real game, the scheming of needing the other 4 guys on the floor in place before pulling the trigger was time-consuming. I think he said something like if he just shot, no one would be ready for the offensive glass and no one would be ready for the transition D. Obviously, things have changed a ton since 1999. That's the kind of impact Steph Curry and Hardin have had.

IMHO, Tre Mitchell may turn out to be a key player. With as many good outside shooters as we now have, most nights at least some of them will be on. But some nights, the outside shooting will be cold as ice. And some nights we'll face an exceptional perimeter defense. We need the ability to feed the ball to a big man who can score. That's Tre Mitchell--transfer from U. Mass.

He was the Atlantic 10 Freshman of the Year.
He was First Team All-Conference last year.

He's from Pittsburgh, so he probably can't pronounce "sandwich" correctly. Other than that, I see no downside to this exceptional athlete. We need the ability to score inside to go to the Final Four in 2021-2022. Mitchell brings that, and he grabs the boards well.
