2021-22 Men's Basketball Schedule - University of Texas Athletics Aside from Gonzaga, Seton Hall, and Stanford, the non-conference slate is pretty weak this year... The Conference is rather tough though, so I suppose it evens out. At least we don't face Abilene Christian. 11/9 vs Houston Baptist 11/13 at Gonzaga 11/17 vs No. Colorado 11/20 vs San Jose State 11/24 vs Cal. Baptist 11/29 vs Sam Houston State U. 12/3 vs UT Rio Grande Valley 12/9 at Seton Hall 12/19 Stanford (Las Vegas) 12/22 vs Rice 12/28 vs Incarnate Word 1/1 Conference play starts ... Mid/Late season non-conference game: 1/29 vs Tennessee
I would expect Houston Baptist to be a warm up to get in the groove. Then next up is Gonzaga—it’s gonna by HUGE!!! Big on Big. Good on Good.
I hope the Horns pull the upset and kick the Zags arse. My head says the Horns will come up just short against the zags, though. But as the season goes on, and the Horns get settled into Beard’s system I predict the Horns will win the March rematch.
Yeah. I know we’re going to end up very good. I’m not sure how we’ll start against Gonzaga. There’s a lot of new talent, a lot of good three point shooters, and a star transfer C from U Mass.
I was impressed with his post moves against TLU - haven't seen that level of skill down low from a big man here in a while. With all the talent we've had recently it seems the offensive game was an afterthought.
my wife says I can't watch 4 sports in the same season. it's going to be difficult. i'm going to the Mavs/Boston game tonight with my UT game shirt on. Cowboys tomorrow at noon. maybe i tell her i thought she meant at the same EXACT time? i'm excited for the Zags game.
Tonight just may be a defining moment for Beard. Can he do what Shaka couldn't do? Can he beat a small private Christian school? HBU played ACU within 3 last year so they're probably pretty equal. Can Beard prove he's a better coach than Shaka tonight??
The line for the game is Texas -33.5 That's some easy money right there. Beard may beat these guys by 50+
He could if he wanted. I think the bench will be cleared early in the second half as Coach needs to get depth developed/integrated into his system. I’m thinking Horns win by 30 or 40. Won’t be close.
I think we'd be better off scheduling tougher teams in the early season. That would better prepare us for conference play. I can understand a cupcake or two, but not half a dozen. Each year, we should also play UH, Rice, and SMU. When we're not in the Big 12 anymore, we should also play TCU, Baylor, and Tech each year. For the rest of the non-conference schedule, I'd like to see us load it up with B1G, ACC, PAC, and major Northeast area teams (Georgetown, Seton Hall--got that one this year, St. Johns, U. Mass, U. Conn, Cuse, etc.)
Racking up a bunch of wins over cupcakes doesn't do much for our tournament seeding. Nor does it prepare us well for conference (or tournament) play. I get having a few warm-up games, but not so dang many...
This. It sucked losing to Gonzaga but we learned a lot about our team. Nobody cares about a couple quality November losses in March. Improve early to keep playing late.
Get used to it. This apparently is his method of scheduling. I haven't looked but I've heard he cancelled all of the tough non-conference games except for Gonzaga and Tennessee for this year. The only reason those weren't were because of contractual obligations. They said he likes to slowly build the team chemistry up through this, hit league on a roll and into the tourney. It's pretty easy to get in if you end up 24-6 every year and I don't think he really cares much about seeding.
I don't know who's supposed to do it but Beard directly influenced these changes. I'm guessing it's a partnership between the two.
This schedule sucks and I can´t see it year in and year out. How much TV money can you make on the LHN with these crap oppenents and who is going to go to the games? You don´t necessarily need to schedule Duke, Kentucky, etc... but a Georgetown, Umass, Florida State, etc... would be nice. At least teams with a pulse.
