So one of the most historic programs in all the nation is now open. Who will the golden domers get to replace Kelly? Fickell makes a lot of sense but he is the middle of a playoff run. Is Matt Campbell a possible fit?
It just depresses me that USC and LSU have done what I wish Texas would have done (and should have done). Hire a proven winning head football coach from a top power five school. Texas on the other hand seems to hire these flash in the pan type guys. Pretty sad if you ask me. I hope I’m wrong about Sark, but I suspect it could be another 4 years down the drain.
You do realize that Sark has as many D-1 National Championships as Kelly. Give Sark time to purge the Herman malcontents and build a team. It has been over ten years since Texas has been competitive and that does not change overnight.
Ha! Are you seriously counting Sark's NC as an assistant? I'm not a Kelly fan but he has 10 seasons with at least 10 wins as a head coach. Sark has never won more than 9 games in a season as a head coach and he has done that exactly ONE time. By your calculation Herman has as many NCs as both of them.
Reread and assume you meant thaw neither coach has a NC as a HC. My bad but still feel Kelly has a proven record for winning.
Kelly also has a proven record as a **** head and not remotely close to being likeable. This is neither a beauty contest or Ms Congeniality contest, but the guy "ain't our kinda people". Coonasses will learn the same thing before summer.
Neither has a D-1 national championship. I don't know what winning 10 games a year at ND means, but belly flopping in the CFP is more telling. I get you don't like the Sark hire, but he inherited a mess on and off the field that had been building for 10 years.
I agree with you and I didn't say I'm not on board with Sark. Hope that he proves CDC made the right choice and gets things turned around. But man this was a tough year, regardless of what he inherited.
Before this year, has a blue blood program ever involuntarily lost a head coach to another college team? Yes they have lost them to the NFL.
So two of the top 10 all time programs had their coach leave them for another school within a couple days of each other. Wow. I can't remember it happening once before. They always quit coaching or get fired.
Matt Campbell seems to me to be the right guy. If he turns down an offer from ND, then I can only assume he loves Ames so much he intends to be there for the rest of his life.
Candidates for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football head coach position to replace Brian Kelly, who is leaving for LSU
Sorry but this seems like an odd move for LSU. And Kelly. Although I Guess mo money and duck hunting are strong draws. As far as Kelly's personality goes, Coon asses don't mind bravado if he can back it up. If he doesn't, he'll be playing golf w Coach O before you know it.
I dont think they will mind a bit about standoffish and aloof if he wins titles and beats the Tide............after all they loved Saban untill he left town and came back with Bammer
One realized he'd never play for a national championship again unless he changed conferences. The other realized he'd never play for a national championship again unless he changed conferences. Different solutions to the same problem, it would seem.
