Any real chance Bob comes back? He is loyal, loves the program, and possibly could be swayed if it looks like they are in a tight spot. Does anyone know the level of interest or disinterest that might exist there on either side?

I wonder if they’ll try to convince Stoops to come back full time? He’s the only sure shot, imo.

Honestly Stoops was obviously a great coach, but I believe he is past his time. Why did he leave early if he still had winning coaching left to do?

Yesterday, I heard an OU beat reporter being interviewed by Dan Patrick and he said Stoops would not be interested in the job on a permanent basis. Too much stress with portal transfers and he doesn't do Tik Tok.

Replacing a guy like Lincoln, who had a great record at ou, could scare off some good candidates. If the expectation is "No drop-off from Lincoln's record," it's a no-win situation for the new coach - if he succeeds, he only did what was expected, and if there is any drop-off, he's a bum who can't meet the expectations.
Rather than being the "guy who replaces Riley," it could be better to be the "guy who replaces the guy who replaced Riley."

That is why John Blake type hire is the right move. Charlie Strong to the moon. (he knows how to make Texas lose).

Yet Lincoln thrived being the guy who replaced Stoops.

Thanks to the QB portal. I think Riley knew those days were over for him at OU.

I just hope they don't take Fickell.

Anyone else on the boards, I think we'll consistently beat.

Someone to watch--Clawson of Wake Forest. (now there's a man who can scout, identify, recruit, and develop top QBs; a top notch offense-side mind)

Money talks... BUT... if Fickle can get into the playoff at Cincinnati, then why go to Notre Dame when the academic standards can be a bit of a hand-cuff?

Well, he wouldn't have that problem at OU...

I don't want to see Fickell against us on an annual basis at OU. He could build, and maintain, a monster.

Yeah, but I'm thinking Big 12 v SEC when it comes to being the coach at OU or Cinn...

Fickell is in the catbird seat. He could stay at Cincy and command more $$$$, or go this year, or next year, or the year after... Somebody will target him.

I think all but 15-20 people are "candidates". The schools where guys probably wouldn't throw it against the wall to see if it sticks right now: Bama, UGA, Aggy, UT, tOSU, PSU, MSU, MU, USC, UCLA, ND, Clemson,??? Throw in Scott Frost, Gundy and a few others who are at their dream job and everyone else is could be a candidate. The list would be smaller if Sark left.

But he has to wait it out. And with the recruiting timeline we're living in most schools won't wait it out with him.

^Excellent point, Bubba. OU needs to move quickly to have any chance to save some of the recruiting class - and Fickell is likely to be in the playoffs with Cincy, making him unavailable until late January.

    Bubba,

If Bob is temporary, bring back Bobby Jack & Scott to help finish this year's recruiting.

Brian Kelly has shown you don't have to wait to see if your current team makes the CFP before bolting. ND is in the CFP if Baylor and Houston win.

I think Stoops likes the bowl game and gets the full time gig for 2022 and lasts through the rest of the Big 12 seasons.

I can't believe no one has suggested Tom Herman. He has impeccable credentials at supporting his players. I'm sure at one time someone sang Boola Boola (the tune Boomer Sooner is based on) at a minstrel show and he could get OU to ban their own fight song, and remove the statue of that racist Bud Wilkinson.

    Save Tom!!!!!

I liked the idea of Stoops for a short period but it was pointed out people would recruit against his long term stability there.

Notebook will end up in TRFC as soon as O’Brien picks up a HC job which might be this year.

Trouble is if recruits know he's a one year coach, that leaves too much uncertainty. They need stability right now and Stoops can't offer that. Venebles is their best bet but might he be pissed from his departure. Wasn't that amicable is my understanding and many were wanting him gone.

This x100. I can't figure out why the brain trusts in Norman haven't already signed Tom Herman. The obvious choice. Then after that the second obvious choice is Ed Orgeron. 3rd is Charlie Strong. C'mon OU what are you waiting for. Let's get it done.

I think Riley was about to be found out. He will still get some great QBs and thrive for awhile off his recently garnered rep...but I think he got real lucky with the Mayfield, Murray, Hurts timing...and he knows it.
