OTOH, who felt last year at this time that we would even make it to the big dance, let alone Elite 8? This team, with the 3 freshmen, will get better as the season progresses and, I feel, will be ready for the tournament.

Absolutely! We all knew this team was young, and it was going be fun to watching the ups and downs of their growth over the course of this season.

I recently expressed frustrations with this year's lack of quality out of conference home games for both men's and women's basketball games. A friend suggested that this may have been strategic to play the away game of a home and away deal this year, so that we would play the home game next year in the new Moody Center next season. That does make some sense and I have resolved to be less critical of this year's schedule and look forward to next season in the brand new Moody Center.

Yeah and now that I see our team, I wish we would’ve played UConn this season that way we would’ve played them in the moody center because, although this team is young we’re much better than I thought we were going to be and I have very high hopes for this team so we could’ve competed and beat UConn this season imo. Hopefully we get Arizona, Stanford, Aggies, and Tennessee in the moody center next year

Ewww I would hate to be in that locker room at halftime. Vic is going to chew them out for this first half performance. We may be winning but we are very sloppy in all aspects of the game especially on the defensive side. I expect to see us regroup and get back to our level of play in the second half.

In case you think rankings make any sense whatsoever, follow this ridiculous logic.

Baylor has played one ranked team, then #3 Maryland. Baylor lost. They played a couple of nothing, unranked teams and won. They almost lost to Texas State by the way.

Texas played then #3 Stanford and won. We lost to then #16 Tennessee. We’ve played a few unranked teams and won.

Stanford lost to then #25 us but beat then #2 Maryland as well as then #4 Indiana. They lost to then #18 South Florida.

Tennessee beat then #23 South Florida and as well as #12 us and won to a few unranked teams.

This week Baylor went up one spot to #5 and we dropped one spot to #15. Stanford moved up to #4 and Maryland dropped to #8. Tennessee remained at #11.

Baylor has not beaten any ranked teams.

My head hurts and rankings are bullsh**

I think we all believe that come tournament time we'll be ranked higher. Right now we're a work in progress - 3 frosh starters (if they're all healthy). I'm ok with where we're ranked. Historically it takes time for Vic's approach to sink in and I think we'll get better as the season progresses. Looking forward to the game tonight.

Great stuff from Vic, as always, about his relationship with Gary Blair.

Someone in the media asks him about the Texas A&M job, Vic only says, "I left Mississippi State for only one job, that's Texas."

I'm confident he'll remain at Texas because he's just getting started and recruiting lights out. But I would have loved to hear, "I'm not going anywhere, including A&M; I'm staying at Texas."

Insightful about Rori and Ashley going at one another during practice at Palo Alto.

I think his response "...only one job" was as definite as you'll get with a coach. He's recruiting well and gets to live in Austin. I don't see any reason why he would leave. Every time he was talking about stuff needing to be fixed he glanced in Rori's direction. She seemed ok with it. I have to confess that in retrospect I am not sure how we beat Stanford. We're young (and new) and have a lot to learn. Perhaps the injured folks (Moore especially) are having a bigger impact than I realized. That being said, I'm optimistic about where we'll be in February.

Young team... We got up emotionally for Stanford as they were the defending national champions. Hard to get inexperienced youngsters to understand that we have to have that same intensity with every opponent. If I was a betting person, I would bet that this upcoming Big 12 schedule is about to teach our young players painful and valuable lessons about such.

Per ESPNW and Crème yesterday, Texas is a 3 seed in The Dance. Arizona is now one of the 4 …..one seeds. We’ll get a chance to show up when the Arizona game comes around…..and move up or down. Perhaps Moore will be back by then.

With just over 1 minute left in the game against A&M, Carolyn Peck noted that Texas was supposed to play UConn this season (which we all know was pushed out another year), but also South Florida.

I recalled Aston's last team lost at USF, and wondered why we even scheduled a road game to open the season. But, they never made a return trip to Texas; wish Vic would have made that game happen this season as USF had close losses to UConn and Tennessee, and also beat Oregon and Stanford. Playing them at home would have been our best/toughest non-conference home game, and helped our SOS/RPI even more.

Maybe they'll come to Austin next season.

Just sent this email to John Bianco, SID:

    Dear sir,

Is there any way we can get the post-game press conferences of some of our women's sports uploaded faster? Specifically, I know that Vic Schaefer almost always has a short session after a game. And especially after the recent A&M game, I've been scanning YouTube for some sort of upload. It was a really exciting game, especially at a place he used to coach, so it was disappointing not to hear what he had to say afterwards.

Also, is it possible to have a microphone passed to the questioners OR have the coaches/players repeat what was asked? Often, I have to guess the question from the answer. Literally, Jeopardy the game.

As impressive as Aliyah has been scoring the ball, the assist numbers being registered by Rori, a freshman, thus far have been the best by any Longhorn in the 21st century. While it is a small sample size (7 games), she is on pace to post the top results in assists per game (6.57) and assists to turnover ratio (3.83) of the past 22 seasons. Better than Big12 POY Brooke McCarty in her best season (4.41 and 2.42) and other notable Longhorn PGs like:
    • Yvonne Anderson - 5.48 & 1.68 (2011-2012)
    • Sug Sutton - 5.39 & 1.62 (2018-2019)
    • Kenya Larkin- 5.38 & 1.34 (2001-2002)
    • Carla Cortijo - 4.91 & 1.46 (2007-2008)
    • Nina Norman - 4.06 & 1.34 (2003-2004)
    • Jamie Carey - 3.60 & 2.35 (2002-2003)

I know this kills me. Stanford, Tennessee and A&M all had their pressers posted within a couple of hours of the game. Don't know it takes us over 12 hours to post ours.

Looks like Louisville, UCLA, and Tennessee will be among the teams joining us in the Bahamas next season. Hope we draw UCLA and Louisville as we should have Tennessee playing in Austin next season.

With Chevalier leaving, Shae Holle is last remaining player from KA era. I’m not sure I would have picked her….but she’s turning into a nice rotation player.
