Surprised no one beat me to this.

Longhorns QB Thompson enters transfer portal

Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Ewers hasn’t proved anything on the college level yet.
going 5-7 is not fun. Maybe he just wants a change of scenery but seems counterproductive to me at this point

Nevermind I see this news is on the aptly named “Longhorns in the Portal 2021” thread.

I got excited and thought I was breaking news!

I really liked this kid and what he did in 2021. Should have stayed and competed....Ewers is no lock to start 2022 season.

So sorry to see him go, but I get it why in HIS mind he exited.

Kid has not yet enrolled or taken a snap at UT. You may think he is a lock... Hudson Card has a valuable year of experience in Sark's Offense going into spring and fall camp. Ewers may well beat Card for the starting job come fall, but I I'm not ready to call him a lock...

Let's put it this way. If Ewers is a lock and has already been told so, then Sark's program is doomed to failure.

Ewers isn't a lock because he has to come in and compete for the job. May the best QB win.

If Ewers isn't a lock, we are going 4-8 (at best) in 2022. Sark will be fired the day after Thanksgiving, and All Hell Will Break Loose!

Also, I'm sure Mr. Del Conte has told Sark that we can't have an empty south end zone, let alone an entire empty stadium next season! Need to sell some tickets! When all else fails, you can always sell hope! Hope Springs Eternal!

No way in H E Double Hockey Sticks has Sark guaranteed or promised Ewers the starting gig.

Agreed. He didn't start several games, was playing hurt half the time, and still lead the conference in TD passes, but doesn't want to even find out whether or not he'll still win the job against true freshmen and a guy who he ended up beat out last year?

Maybe we are not speaking the same language. How do you define "lock"?

Ahh come on Catholic …. That defiles the covenants of this group.
    Paragraph 3 Section 2 Line C
…by posting on this board you agree to adhere to stating complete conjecture as fact. Especially when commenting regarding the depth chart of any past, present or future quarterbacks….

Folks we have 3 Top Tier ranked- I get it it’s only “ranked”- very young QBs in campus.

When is the last time this happened? (Rhetorical question.)

Sark stated at end of season, before any signing of recruits, that the QB position will be open competition this spring and fall.
If Ewers is all that then he will win out.
If Card has progressed, and it looked that way his final appearance, he might win out.
And I'm not counting Maalik out whatsoever.
We have a 5* and a 4* QB recruit coming in with no college reps.
We have a (hopefully) returning QB recruited as the #2 dual threat QB in the nation.
I frankly don't give a rats *** which one is named starter.
We will probably end up playing more than one due to injury, etc., anyway.
We have a good QB room right now.
Sark should be able to find some success with one or all of these guys.

I respected Thompson as our qb. Before he injured his thumb and lost Whittington he took the offense down the field and scored points at a very high percentage and that’s with a suspect and inconsistent offensive line. He carried himself well and to graduate from UT in 3 years Is impressive. We need more like him in the locker room. Ewers is a tremendous talent but who really knows where his head is. Committed to Texas then leaves for Ohio state, goes portal and back to Texas. High priority in making money now which I can’t necessarily blame him for. Watch out for Maliik.
I love his desire to compete for the job and seems to be all in for the univ. of Texas.
Didn’t waiver at all when ewers signed. He may not be as polished yet but his attitude will propel him forward.

He probably felt he'd earned the starting job last August only to have it go to Card. A season of musical chairs later, it's hard to blame him if he doesn't believe it will be a truly open competition. Especially when the program engaged in a bidding war with Tech for the shiny new toy.

    G&P,

How do you feel about Bost starting? Kid wasn't a very good HS QB. Has Darrell performed another miracle?

Not sure there's even going to be a Gator Bowl at this point with all the COVID bidniss. As for Bost, having a W/O starting at QB is far from ideal.

With the way players opt out of the non-CFP bowl games it feels more and more like NFL preseason games. Not a lot of give-a-damn left in the tank for crap bowl games.
