Lead down to 4, offense is lagging, rebounding is lagging, turnovers are going up, no one is stopping Meyers. I hope someone wakes up soon! C'mon!
Way too many players standing around on the defensive boards are leading to so many of these offensive rebounds for Princeton.
All I can do at work is look at stats. Most are as you would expect, BUT: Offensive Rebounds - P 19 Texas - 4
Nice timing for this game for Aliyah. Looks like she had family come in from nearby DC to see her play just before the holidays.
Yep really WFT the final talley was 21 to 4, and I just looked at their roster and their tallest starter is 6'1".
I don’t know if this was mentioned in the schedule thread but this was the opening game of a home-and-home series. Announcers said Princeton comes to Austin next season at the end of the game. Speaking of the announcers, I was very pleased by their coverage. Just a small amount of homerism but not over the top.
Another grind it out win. As I said before there's going to be some tough lessons learned throughout this season, because I can't think of any Big 12 team I feel confident we could have beaten with the way we've played the last two games. The kids have got to learn to get psyched up for each and every game. On a positive note, nice game by Joanne... really glad to see her settle down and let the game come to her. Hope the players enjoy the short holiday break and come back ready to get down to conference business.
Run Pincher, I thought that was a mis-print: 21-4 OR in favor of Princeton. How did Ellie Mitchell grab 12 OR? Who wasn't boxing her out because I know we're not playing zone defense? I was unable to watch, still at work.
Not to single anyone out, because our players work hard! But we have some deficiencies with our interior game for which IMO we just don't have the personnel to address. We've been able to address those needs sort of "by committee" but today we had two post players not suited up to play. I believe it was @kurupt who earlier in the year expressed concern over a potential situation of this very type.
To give credit to Princeton, they played hard and they're very well-coached. I always liked the way Carla Barube played the game when she was at UConn, and her teams play with the same fearlessness she did.
No doubt you're going to get smart, disciplined, strong effort play from Princeton, but it blows my mind Texas got their &%$ kicked in the one stat you would think should be mostly height and athleticism. Of course effort too, but there's never been a lack of effort with a Vic coached team.
2-3 B12 teams lose by double digits with today’s effort. Princeton is a decent team. Better than tech or tcu and on par with okie state.
The rebound numbers are bad. I’d expect that we’d lose the offensive board comparison if you told me we outshot Princeton 50% to 25% and that Princeton missed 20 threes. The combination of a man defense with a motion/3 point offense is primed to generate o-boards. That said, a 5-1 ratio is way worse than I’d expect.
I agree whole-heartedly and it was very frustrating to watch. One of the things Princeton exposed was our lack of quickness to the ball on rebounds. If your method of rebounding is simply boxing/pushing me out and letting the ball drop down to you, then what happens when I know this and I simply roll off of you rather than trying to push back? If I'm quicker than you I'm going to roll around you and get to the ball. I think I saw a lot of that happen today. Princeton also shot 26 3's and made only 6 so there were a lot of long rebounds. Again, our lack of quickness to the ball hurt us there. 16 of our defensive rebounds were gathered by perimeter players and our bench didn't help on the boards either.
At All.That's the 1st thing I noticed. And crashing the Boards. Princeton was really on Offensive boards.
Yep those are the only three that I think we MAY have beaten with the way we played the past couple of games. Even then I'm not so sure. After all, TCU did beat the Ags.
Thanks for this. It was stressful having a game in the middle of a workday that could not be recorded.
