I had the highest hopes for Owens. Big and super fast i thought he would be a productive terror in the secondary. Seems like he had all the ingredients but i guess not.
This will be a different team next year. We need to be able to finish games and improve the defense. If both happen, we'll, we should be playing on Jan 1st at a minimum.
Wow. And the overhype starts already. We may be fielding a ton of freshmen. While talented, they are freshmen. I'll be happy with 8 wins.
I think a big part of the problem over the past ten years is a lack of consistency at QB. We get good classes except for the "it" QBs. They don't grow on trees. In the 2000s we had VY and Colt. But we may be turning the corner on the "it" QB. Lets hope so. SARK will have no excuse. Of course our defense has to be fixed. If we get a halfway good defense we will be making some noise
I probably wouldn’t be. 8 wins would represent at best mediocre progress, if that. After all, had Casey’s thumb not been injured in the RRR, my guess is that we would have been more like 7-5 or 8-4. Of course, the D was also a big factor, and terrible. “Happy” for me would be 10+, and “9” would represent reasonable progress. The wildcard is the QB position and I really wish that CT hadn’t decided to portal. His being available — or perhaps starting — would have been huge. We need someone on the roster other than Card that has experience. That is, unless Card somehow makes a huge leap.
Other than dewberry (which was an uphill battle regardless) and assuming we get Campbell, didn’t the Horns get everyone they wanted on OL? This is outstanding.
I truly believe that our failures in past recruiting has more to do with trenches. I agree, QB has been lacking, but there have been many teams that develop 3 to 4 stars with solid line play. Our deficiencies o and D line.
IT was able to confirm that Sark has talked with Emmett Jones of Kansas for the open WR job. He has deep ties in DFW and he was the OC at Dallas Skyline and the HC at Dallas South Oak Cliff before moving on to join Kingsbury's staff at Texas Tech. Emmett Jones
True, the freshman is reason for caution but over hyping is fun and therapeutic. It helps to recover from last season. Until the next season begins. But this next year will be different!
I said IF both happen, which is true. I'm not making any concrete predictions. If we solve the two biggest issues I addressed, do you disagree? Not saying it will come to pass, but this will definitely be a different team next year. I'm cautiously optimistic. Don't overread anything.
Amen to this. Controlling the LOS is key to winning championships. Substance (trenches) over flash (skill positions) is where you have to start. Get the depth in the OL and DL and suddenly your playbook opens up. Skill positions blossom, and it’s fun/exciting to watch. Sark is on the right path after our 40 years (10) in the wilderness.
Maybe in the same way that a three martini lunch helps to recover from the hangover you got at the bar last night. It may be fun at first but ultimately it is emotionally empty.
Yeah, until it's not. I saw all these same sentiments last year when Sark was hired. Then when the miracle didn't occur, we're ready for the next coach. We'll be retooling the defense (with the DC that many have dumped on) and will have the same OL - with perhaps some true frosh. Either the same OL or a reworked OL. I say we tone down the expectations and see what evolves. I think we should give Sark until year 3 before judgement.
Love the hopefulness. Personally, I'm not drinking the Kool-Aid until I see proof on the field. I've been fooled too many times. But I AM hopeful.
Have any if you guys who keep up with recruiting heard anything concerning Marvin Mills threatening to Portal to Texas? This seems to be all the talk at Frisco Lone Star High School. Two of my grandsons go to Lone Star, and they told me over Christmas that was the buzz.
Found an article from Dec 1st saying Mims was strongly considering entering his name into the portal, but nothing on potential destinations.
