Here's my list of the 2023 recruits on Texas' radar. Feel free to add or subtract from my list because following high school girls' basketball recruiting is not an exact science.
    • Mikaylah Williams; 6'0" Guard, Louisianna (#1 ESPN)
    • Breya Cunningham; 6'4" Post, California (#4 ESPN)
    • Madison Booker; 6'1" Wing, Mississippi (#6 ESPN)
    • Sammie Wagner; 6'1" Wing, Texas (#17 ESPN)
    • Sayvia Sellers; 5'7" PG, Alaska (#30 ESPN)
    • Gisella Maul; 5'11" Guard, Texas (#45 ESPN)
To my knowledge, Sayvia Sellers has not been discussed as a 2023 recruit in this thread. Sayvia was recently named the Gatorade Alaska Girls Basketball Playaer of the Year. This season, she averaged 24 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 4.5 steals per game. She has offers from Utah, Washington State, Oklahoma, Arizona, Kentucky, Cal, Gonzaga, TCU, Tulsa, Washington, USC and Ohio State. I don't know if Texas has extended an offer to Sellers but she is followed by all three of our assistant coaches on social media. There seems to be mutual interest between Sellers and Texas, as Sellers has liked numerous Texas WBB messages over the past few days.

Although Alaska is a long distance from Texas, it's not unthinkable that a high school athlete from Alaska could choose Texas. Lydia Jacoby is from Seward Alaska and is a 2022 commit to the Tx Swimming and Diving team. She won the gold medal in the 100 meter breaststroke in the 2021 Olympics.

I did not realize we were involved with Williams from Louisiana.

The name I posted about this past weekend was Zoe Brooks. Believe we also have an offer out to Hannah Hidalgo based on earlier posts in this thread in 2021.

Having visited Alaska a couple of dozen times, EVERY basketball program is a long distance. But location would certainly favor a Pac12 program.

Hidalgo (#18) and Aalyah Del Rosario (#13) both have offers. With the level of success Rori has had plus Vic’s willingness to trust a youngster at PG should definitely be a plus for Hidalgo and Sellers. Their freshman year would be Rori’s junior.

Cokie Reed even retweeted this with a comment. Really hope the Longhorns can lure her away from the west coast.

Yesterday, the UCLA coaching staff had their in-home visit with the Cunningham. The Arizona staff was in-house last week. By my count, out of Breya's top 8 schools, four have had their in-home visits (Oregon, USC, UCLA and Arizona). Assuming they are still under consideration, the remaining four schools (Texas, UConn, Notre Dame and Duke) have not used their in-home visits. Three of the four schools are still dancing, so scheduling will need to wait until the outcome of the tourney.

There are still social media clues of "likes" between Texas and Cunningham so I assume we are still in the mix for the #4 rated recruit in the nation. As we've discussed on this board, a true center/post is a big need for our roster, and Cunnigham would be the perfect addition to the team.

Although it will be tough to lure her from the west coast, Texas could serve as a compromise to those Pac 12 teams by not selecting any of them and heading to over to Texas. She would receive great instruction from Coach Phillips, as she has done a phenomenal job this season with the development of Ebo, Gaston, Moore and Lattimore.

Choosing one school will only get more difficult for Breya after the remaining schools have their in-home visits. I have no idea what Breya's timeline is for deciding but she certainly has good options.

She’s followed by both Dionnah and April but her name doesn’t ring a bell. 4-star PG who had been committed to UGA.

I thought it was unusual that a day or two ago Sammie started following Abbie Boutilier and TexasMBB on IG. :D

Sammie’s commitment has made my day! I’m so happy she’s coming to Texas. Sammie is the #17 rated recruit on ESPN-HoopGulrz. Her skill set and basketball IQ will be a great addition to the roster.

So, first off, thanks to Sincerely for making me frantically scroll down to find out who exactly she committed to! Now, am waiting for the experts here to help me understand how she will fit in and what she brings. The description says guard/forward, so guessing anywhere from 2 to 4?

Wasn't it obvious that it was Texas? It was to me as they seemed excited to be the first to break some (good) news. :D

I am officially serious about Wagner NOW! I’ve read every post in this thread about her. Some of you experts that have seen her play many times say she is a gifted scorer who can play 1-5 positions. Also is slow on both offense and defense. And doesn’t like to play D. Very little video of her but what I did see, appeared to validate ya’lls comments. Her three point shot is from low position so will need to get it off quickly or change position. Clearly she can shoot and score. One of the most respected coaches in the Metroplex once told me..give coaches a player who has those elite offensive skills and they will figure out how to get them to play D or cover for them. So someone(s)…need more video. If she had offers from the latest list, then coaches at those top schools felt they could figure it out. I’m excited she’s a Horn.

There's plenty of videos on YouTube of her. I think that she's a 3 player, but probably would thrive as a stretch 4.

I don't think every player you add to your roster needs to be the same. You need a variety of styles and skill sets to blend together. Sammie might not be the most athletic player Vic will bring in to the program, but if he is accepting a commitment from her this early in the process, then he believes she can help our program.

It's been a long time since we've had a 6'1 - 6'3 forward who can shoot well from the perimeter and knock down their free throws. Perhaps she'll turn out to be like former Longhorn great, Heather Schreiber.

She reminds me of Samantha Brunelle of Notre Dame coming out of high school.

Although it looks like Sammie is playing against 5th graders, this guy does a nice job of describing Sammie’s strengths.

Here’s a more recent video of one of Sammie’s high school games when she scored 26 points.

Folks…..thanks for the insights on Wagner. Certainly has the offensive/passing skills. I agree with the evaluator on the first video. She needs to get away from holding the ball high over her head looking to pass. Good for high school cause of her height but not higher levels of play. But that’s what college coaches will quickly change. The triple threat power position needs to be used. That’s nitpicking. She’s a really good player and highly skilled. I noticed when she was a freshman one of the scouting agencies had her ranked as number 2 in country. We all know kids that are really young…..the rankings don’t mean a lot. But being thought of like that so young says she’s been working hard on her craft from an early age. It will be fun to watch how Schaefer uses her in 2024. I agree…right now she is probably projected as a stretch 4 that can slide up or down the positions. Exciting.

Sammie’s progression will tell me a lot about this staffs ability to develop. She is an elite offensive talent who can play 2-4 at the college level. On the other end of the floor is where I have real questions

I guess she could play SG in college, but her size and quickness is more that of a SF. A lot depends on how much she grows, how much stronger she gets, and how she maintains her fitness in college.

She can’t be in the dark about what it takes to get on the floor at Texas with Vic at the helm, so it should be fun to watch her game progress at both ends. Kala Bowers was all about offense in high school and became a trusted defensive stopper for Jody.

Similar story but right from Vic’s own house with Blair. She considered transferring from MSU to get playing time and Vic told her to get better on defense and she’d play more. She did and became one of the best defenders.

She could play SG for Vic because of how he likes to play on offense. We're middle of the pack at best in terms of transition offense so she wouldn't need to run the floor (on offense) a great deal. And she would be a matchup nightmare at that spot with her skills and size.

She'd have to be awfully quick for her size to play Vic's defense at the 2 position...
