NCAA Tournament 2022

My sentiments exactly. Personally, I'm thankful for the different styles of play we have to face repeatedly in the Big 12. Most significantly Iowa state's style of play because it makes us have to really lock in defensively. It has definitely helped prepare us for our last two opponents. Perhaps Wild Bill ought to spend more time appreciating how playing against a tough physical defense can prepare you for March Madness, and less time crying about it.

 

Congrats to NC State on their first Elite Eight. I like seeing new blood advance. Notre Dame losing is not a bad thing either

 

NC St was 1-13 in the Sweet Sixteen’s having gone to the Elite Eight in 1998 and pretty much trailed ND the whole game but made several outstanding defensive plays late in the 4th to overcome and get the win.

 

Trivia... The last time NC State was in the elite eight in 1998 they pulled off a big upset and knocked out UConn behind the strong inside play of Chasity Melvin...I remember that game well, Coach Yow was so ecstatic. Will history repeat itself?

 

Just watched Aliyah Edwards commit 3 obvious fouls on a single UCONN fast break (block, blatant holding and then shouldering the Hoosier to the floor under the basket), not whistled once.

 

And the rematch from 1998 is on and maybe we get the same results. After all, seed wise UCONN is the underdog and it’s on a “neutral” (wink wink) court

 

Indiana has come apart, looked really freaked out for awhile. I don't remember them getting a rebound since the first quarter. Not surprising. UConn has the "home court" and the refs behind them, it seems to me. UConn is clicking at the right time. Today they look like the old UConn. There is no way NC State beats them. I think they will waltz into the Final Four as I always expected. I hope somebody there can stop them. (Be nice if it was us.)

 

Watching Tennessee and Louisville is there any way both could lose?

How many times were the Stanford parents on TV tonight or were they shunned in favor of Paige Bueckers parents all night?

 

Stanford has become the media darlings. Apparently there are no other teams playing worthy of much mention. SMH
Typically I would root for Tara and Stanford and never for UConn, but after Tara's media comments last weekend I'm glad they got beat.

 

I don’t know how close you have been paying attention to UCONN this year but it sure seems like Geno might be retiring after this year. I haven’t heard anything suggesting this but saw a couple of flags. He cried after the NC State game and just did an interview on ESPN talking about basketball and non basketball plans. The Ball Out website also suggested a big name coach is about to be done which hasn’t happened yet. Just makes me wonder.

 

Ya know.... I've been noticing and commenting amongst friends that Geno doesn't seem like his old self. That same fire that we've all come to know him for just doesn't seem to be there. He has mellowed out a whole lot... Like a whole-whole lot. I wonder what in the world would happen with that program if he did decide to retire? I suppose the obvious choice is that Chris Daly would take over, but other than that not sure. Shae Ralph had a decent season In her first year at Vanderbilt given where that program was when she took over. Thanks for the insight... Definitely something to keep an eye on.

 

I didn't consider Geno retiring. I had noticed his fire diminishing. I attributed it to him getting older.

I believe covid made everyone see their life in a different perspective. Being a workaholic and Working 24/7 for years on end is coming to an end. People have tasted having a flexible schedule and spending quality time with family and interest outside of work.

We've had so many retirements since covid its crazy. 26 people in my department. 9 people have retired. 4 we knew were going to retire. They have been talking about it before covid. The other 5 were shockers! I think people want to enjoy life while they still can.

If he is going to retire Good luck replacing him. He's an outstanding coach.

 

Something that occurs to me as I look at the final 4 teams. They are programs that have established themselves as contenders every year, for multiple years now. As such, they have attracted recruits to the extent that their benches are loaded. We have crashed the party somewhat with our two elite 8 appearances, but I think that's more a factor of Vic's coaching rather than deep bench. And going into next year, if we are without Jo and Lauren, we're not sure (we the peanut gallery) are not sure how they will be replaced. My point here is that we may be a few years removed from having the kind of skill and depth that those final 4 teams have.

 

If I were guessing I'd say we're either going to get suitable replacements for Ebo and Warren, or they're going to stay for that additional year.

 

Jo is gone...not coming back. I look for Matharu to step into that spot and believe she will excel. Ebo is a question mark and prob depends on who we pick up in the portal. Vic made TWO NC games with ZERO All Americans, so not worried about that part. Thinking we hopefully get a 5 and 3 and upgrade those positions.

I was a volunteer greeter for the women's Final Four in Dallas in 2017.
The first game was MissState against UConn.
The UConn fans were to a person rude and obnoxious. They came in bragging this was going to be easy.They kept asking me if I knew what hotel MissState was at so they could go buy their Final game tix after UConn beat them
Contrast that to the MissState and even SC fans who were polite and even thanked me for volunteering.
Back then I really liked Miss state beating UConn and they had to slither home
Now I like it even more since Vic is here.
Screw UConn

I've disliked Geno ever since Pat Summitt "caught him cheating" on recruiting practices back in the day. Don't know if it was true or not but there must have been enough smoke there that Pat felt confident to go public with the allegations. He did his little "Who, me?' denial and the NCAA didn't care so nothing came of it. The entitlement attitude of most of the uconn players and fans has always been a turn-off
for me. If there was a contest I don't know who would have the most obnoxious fans but I would guess uconn would be in the top five.

 

I may not care for UCONN or Geno, but I have to say I think it’s extraordinary that they made it to the championship game after the year they had with all those injuries. Not many other teams, if any, could pull that off. I can respect the grit and hard work that must have taken.

Kudos to South Carolina & Staley for being able to go wire to wire as #1. That’s pretty extraordinary in itself these days, but talk about an embarrassment of riches in the post position. Can we please have one of those?

 

I may eventually be proven wrong about what I'm going to say, but Cordoso may a colossal mistake by transferring to South Carolina when she left Syracuse. So many other programs, and top 10 programs at that, where she could have been the anchor in the middle. I sure wish she would have chosen us... she would have been a good fit.

 

Huh? She just won a national championship.

 

I think they were referring to the size of her role. She didn’t get many minutes this season when she had an opportunity to go and start other places and be a significant contributor.

If her goal was simply to win, then you are correct….no regrets

 

Exactly. An entire season of experience and development in a significant role was missed this season, and with Boston being a junior I don't see that changing next season. Again, I could be proven wrong eventually.
