Seeing stuff on social media that one of Vic’s old coaches will be returning. Lovato is the most likely candidate, possibly as associate head coach?

Yep it’s out there verbally but I hadn’t seen any media on it yet.

Jerald Davis runs Chicago Hoops Express (Brianna McDaniel’s club team):

There was a HS coach that hinted the same thing in a comment about the number of assistant openings at P5 programs but I’m having trouble finding it.

Abi Olajuwon (TCU recruiting coordinator and former OU player) started following Vic on Instagram.

Lovato would be who I hope they're talking about. She obviously has head coaching experience, but more than anything she and the program can hit the ground running.

There's no adjustment period that needs to be made. She had a hand in recruiting almost every player on the roster including the incoming players. Not to mention she already has existing relationships with some of the players in future classes.

Any chance Kamie Ethridge would get a look as a Assoc HC? Even though she is a power 5 HC now... she brings:
    • High pressure defensive mind-set
    • Passionate intense guard play
    • Has kept WSU competitive vs. Oregon, Stanford, Arizona
    • Legacy player- we all know how Vic loves his UT basketball legends
    • BIG 12 & TX recruiting experience
    • Close ties w JC
    Potential Negatives:
    • Her & spouse may be a packaged deal
    Thoughts?:idk:

I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a P5 HC willingly leave for an assistant role. I bleed Burnt Orange as much as anyone, but leaving WSU to come to Texas as an assistant would absolutely be a step down.

    Exactly.

Now, if a head coach no longer wants the responsibility of that leadership, I can see taking a step down to remain in the coaching industry (and earn a pay check) as plausible.

She just led WSU to B2B NCAA tournaments for the first time in program history, most wins in program history and best Pac12 finish in program history. She’s not leaving

I wasn't talking about her specifically. Some head coaches get burned out eventually.

I am on board with Lovato's return too. She seemed to have a really strong ability to connect with the athletes. In today's reality with the portal, establishing genuine connections with the players is a crucial component to avoid the ignominy of Syracuse (among others).

Yep, and this verbiage from the job posting seems to indicate just that.
"Assistant or Associate Head Coach will be hired based on..."

Remind me, is there a minimum number of days a job opening is required to be posted before a hire can be announced?

The State does have a minimum number of days, yes. I just don't know what that number is.

I’m pretty sure it’s 7, at least that’s how long the one Gary Patterson hired into was open when he was announced.

It was posted four days ago so if it is a seven-day requirement, we're almost there (assuming it is not 7 business days).

10 business days unless something has changed I'm unaware of.

My apologies for taking us down a rabbit hole but BALL is correct, the requirement is 10 business days. I found this snippet in the Texas statutes.

"Sec. 656.024. PUBLIC NOTICE OF JOB VACANCIES. The commission shall publicly list, in accordance with the commission's procedures, for at least 10 working days, each notice of a job vacancy delivered under Section 656.022 unless the commission is sooner notified by the state agency having the vacancy that the vacancy has been filled."

With Tai Dillard coaching at UH, I’d rather have one of our own. And if we’re being honest, with Nneka, Tai, Edwina, Aimee Bradley, Clarissa Davis and Stacey Stephens all currently coaching it would be nice if the staff were all former players. Nina Norman has also stayed close to the game as she is currently training to become an NBA official. Oh and Anissa Hastings is also a successful HS coach in the SA area. Plenty of options

I know it’s a pipe dream, but it would make me happy.

I just want the best qualified. It didn't work out for former Longhorns players like Jamie Carey and Tiffany Jackson because they just didn't have the coaching experience needed, IMO.

Agreed. We’ve had pretty good luck with an aggy and a sooner in charge the past couple of years. I don’t care where they come from as long as it isn’t a Baylor bear.

More Lovato talk. This from a podcast account - hosts are Prentice Beverly and Kameo Williams, 2 guys who usually seem dialed into girls basketball.

There are a lot of pluses if Elena Lovato returns. Her familiarity with Vic's way of doing things; being our former recruiting coordinator makes that area of importance rather seamless; her connections to the JUCO world; and, her relationships at the international levels. Plus, she helped recruit our 2022 signees; so, that increases their likelihood of remaining intent on attending Texas.

Did she coach the wings/forwards under Vic?
