Probably going to be my last trip there. Wife has never been, so I’m looking forward to showing her around the ancient sites where I liked to hang out when I was younger. Lots of new discoveries since my last visit. Going to look up some old friends as well. Truth is, if I wasn’t married, I’d move there to stay. But I wouldn’t live in Cairo.

Interesting ... what is it about Egypt that draws you in? I haven’t been there.

Hey Dion! Not really sure. I have always felt at home when I'm there, very relaxed. I spend most of my time in the desert at or near the ancient ruins, and talk with archaeologists working at the sites about new finds and how does it change history if at all. Yes, there are some parts that can be dangerous like the Sinai and wondering alone out into the deserts. But, spending time among the ancient sites is fun for me. And I like the heat! Plus, no grass!

This is Deir El Medina, well the ruins of it. It was the village where the men who built the tombs for the Pharaohs of the new kingdom, like Tut and Ramses II lived with their families and each day walked over the mountains to the Valley of the Kings. It is my favorite place to visit and many of the tombs are open to explore. Some are closed, but a little baksheesh in the right hands will get you into anything you want to see. The first time I went there, I climbed up the little hill behind it and sat there to watch the sun go down. The cab driver thought the ancient spirits and gotten hold of me, and taken me away.

Wow, would love to go explore. What is the structure on top of that hill you climbed behind the village ruins.
