There's a 53p per liter fuel duty (recently down from 58p) and the normal 20 percent VAT, so yes, taxes are pretty high on fuel. The fuel duty alone comes out to about $2.43 per gallon. However, if you do the math on it, gas would be fairly expensive even without it. (In fact, I have a tax exempt fuel card, so I will ultimately pay the AAFES rate, which is currently $4.199 per gallon. In total, I'll pay $65.83 for that tank instead of $122.63, which is the price shown converted from £. Still high but not quite as big of a kick in the ***.)

I don't hear Brits complain about it though. They complain about fuel prices in general from time to time (though far more often about heating oil than petrol), but I don't hear them say anything about this huge surcharge that their government imposes on it. They just don't buy anywhere near as much petrol as Americans do, so it impacts them far less.

That price per gal is less than avg in US now. I think it’s the first time I’ve heard of that.

Now, just three weeks after its announcement, the Disinformation Governance Board is being “paused,” according to multiple employees at DHS, capping a back-and-forth week of decisions that changed during the course of reporting of this story. On Monday, DHS decided to shut down the board, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation. By Tuesday morning, Jankowicz had drafted a resignation letter in response to the board’s dissolution.

Came to post this too! Is three weeks the record for shortest lived federal board in US history?

Not only is getting rid of Title 42 bad for America, it's morally indefensible until every COVID restriction in the United States is lifted.

I had to go inside a gas station yesterday to turn on pump and the clerk asked how much I needed, I said $15 she looked at me like I was crazy. I said I am just filling up my gas can and everything was okay.

Rep Hawley R Mo skewers Sec Granholm for trying to blame Putin for high gas prices.
    "
Granholm "With respect, sir, it is not administration policies that have affected supply and demand," she responded, shortly before Hawley interjected again.

"Here's what your president did when he first came to office," Hawley said to Granholm. "He immediately reentered the Paris Climate Accord, he canceled the Keystone pipeline, he halted leasing programs in ANWR, he issued a 60-day halt on all new oil and gas leases on federal lands and waters — that's nationwide and accounts for 25% of U.S. oil production — he directed federal agencies to eliminate all supports for fossil fuels, he imposed new regulations on oil and gas and methane emissions. Those were all just in the first few days. Are you telling me that's had no effect on our energy supply?"

Granholm then began discussing a survey that, according to her, found "94% of the oil and gas executives" believe "administration policies had nothing to do with the increase in price of oil."

not interested in opinions of those people, I'm interested in facts," Hawley responded.

Interesting that she says we won't take Russia gas
But we will take Venezuela oil. And Biden is calling for increase in oil production from international sources

I don't believe that for a second. She's either lying or they're rigging the surveys.

    Garm
Biden etc are cherrypicking a quote
here is what some of the oil and gas execs actually said in March which is when that quote came out
"The American Petroleum Institute, an industry trade group, noted that the Fed’s metrics showed the industry ramping up production. “At the same time, many factors continue to have a chilling effect on investment,” API’s Frank Macchiarola said, “including the industry’s recovery from the pandemic, workforce and supply chain constraints, and mixed signals and misguided policies that are limiting domestic production and discouraging financing for natural gas and oil projects.”

In anonymous comments collected by the Fed, several executives did blame their woes on the Biden administration’s green agenda.

“I feel that the primary reason that publicly traded oil producers are restraining growth despite high oil prices is a two-headed monster, with capital discipline and governmental regulations due to the green progressives in the administration’s ear,” one executive from an oil and gas support service firm wrote.

“The talk about price gouging is tiresome,” complained another. “Discussion of federal leases and those leases being unused without an honest discussion about all the constraints and regulatory issues to drill is also unhelpful.”
