The narrative that Texas didn't "play nice" from 1996 to 2010 is oft-repeated and full of ****.

NU was the one who insisted on unequal revenue sharing and partial qualifier rules.

We (and the conference and the NCAA and ESPN) were the ones who caved on all the LHN unfair demands from others about access and recruiting privileges.

You mean they didn't appreciate Texas bringing academic standards to the conference? Those poor corn boys couldn't win without the partial qualifiers and wood shop.

Missouri was the most valuable because the networks thought they carried both the St Louis & Kansas City markets.

Nebraska tried for years to join the BigTen when the BigTen was courting Mizzou. As one of our former ADs once said, "Nebraska brings nothing to the table. There are more TVs in Western Harris County than the entire state, and the owners of the ones in Corn Country are at the games anyway." Mizzou was also demanding that NU upgrade their academics or get out. What Nebraska did have was the best fan base in the country unless you were from Colorado.

Colorado only offered a nice road trip for our alums. Broke school in a broke state full of administrators and politicians who make deals they can't pay for. Most clueless fanbase I've ever been around, and yes, I have been to State Penn and FSU. CU was a drain on the conference offering nothing in return.

Both NU & CU depended on Texas & California for recruits. Now neither has either.

Now if it weren't for the cluelessness of Bowelsby and the ??? of NeinASS (fill in your own adjective), the Big XII would have FSU, Clemson, & GT.

And it was primarily driven by the fact they couldn't beat us on the field.

Didn't hurt that Osborne was about as discreet as a Nuevo Laredo *****.

How smart are you if you take a blue chip HS player to a public restaurant and park the red TransAm at the front door with paper plates on it. NO HE DID NOT SIGN WITH NU.

Of course a printed copy of the annuity after the kid has narrowed his choice to two schools and NU ain't one of them didn't take much smarts.

Nebraska got outvoted I believe 11-1 on the latter. And on the former, 3 of the 4 teams who left were beneficiaries of the revenue sharing (which still split 67% of the revenue into equal portions, for what it's worth). And it can't have been LHN either, since Missouri trying - and failing - to get into the Big Ten is what started the whole thing, which was before LHN was ever a thing.

We can all have our biases and opinions, but most of the "Texas ruined the conference" **** simple fails to stand up to basic undisputed fact.

The idea that Missouri "started this whole thing" is laughable. In late 2009 the Big Ten learned of the PAC's coordination with UT to take 6 Big12 schools to the PAC. This triggered Delaney's announcement that expansion was again on the table.

Missouri and Nebraska got wind of the plan as well and realized they were going to have to scramble to find a new home. Missouri was loud about it while Nebraska kept their efforts on the down-low.

Nebraska's strategy paid off with an invite. Missouri was left looking like a sap... and saps don't have the clout to trigger seismic realignment.

And “roll left” had a lot of effect on the corn faithful psychologically to my memory.

And Ricky. And Casey Hampton. And Mike Jones. And the Vasher pick. And VY. And Ryan Bailey in the snow. And Jamaal. And the 2009 CCG. Losing to GG at home against our worst team in years was the final straw.

Not much attention is paid to the fact that by the mid 90's the rest of the Big-8 was tired of Nebraska's dominance. It should have been pretty easy for the Big-8 members to inflict their will on the Texas schools with the 8-4 advantage. But for all the griping that UT didn't "play nice with Nebraska", the Huskers didn't play nice with the Big-8. Which is why Nebraska got outvoted every time.
