Almost as happy as if the Horns won. There is no bigger bunch of jerks and no bigger ahole of a coach. Extremely satisfying to watch them go down in flames.

I have to go back and look but I cant remember the last time a number one overall seed won the NC at least in the superegional seeding era. I know Texas in 09 and 04 as overall number one lost both times in the NC series and I can think of some other one seeds making it to Omaha but its definitely not the seed to be.

Miami 1999 was the #1 seed the first year they implemented the super if my memory serves correctly.

You are correct and a quick fly through since then shows that they are only number one seed in the super regional era to win it all.

I caught a slight whiff of aggy in the over the top schadenfreude contained in that post.

Calling it like I see it. Vitello is a douche and he's rubbed his filth off onto his team because many of them act like the child he is. Great team of players who had a memorable season,, but also arrogant, cocky, mouthy, impestuous children. Was a thing of beauty to watch the disbelief on their faces as ND dog-piled on their field. ND did college baseball a big favor today and I'll be thanking all their fans when I get up to Omaha on Thursday. Going whether we win or lose today.

I don't know the background inside-baseball on this guy. He's young and hasn't coached many years. What's his story? What makes him such a bad guy. Does he cheat? Argue and lip off to the umps way too much? Talk smack about the opposition?

That's just a small sampling. Read down the Danny Kannell thread if you want a good sampling of how the rest of the baseball community feels about Vitello and the Vols and the enjoyment of their getting punched out today. Seemed like I heard about a juiced bat controversy too during the season but don't recall the specifics.

He actually reminds me a lot of Mike Stoops with his immature and childish antics.

So Tennessee going 53-9 after only losing seven games all season and being one of the best regular season teams ever got me thinking, where do they rate among the all time best who didnt even make it to Omaha. For me number one will always be aggy in 1989 that team was scary good and I was sure they would not only get to Omaha but win it all and then Ben McDonald and LSU won back to back games in the old six team regional format and Gus had his famous "where are the aggies" line as Texas went to Omaha and should have won it all themselves but ended up losing to Wichita State in the new one game final format. That was my freshman year in college and even though I was still at UTEP (transferred in for jr and senior years) it cemented my love of college baseball.

I think Tennessee this year is number two on list of greatest teams not to make it to Omaha ahead of Arkansas last year and then UCLA in 2019, both of whom were also number one overall seeds to fall short of Omaha with the Bruins losing at home in the regional round and not even making the supers. UCLA was also the number one overall in 2016 and lost in the supers but frankly neither of those UCLA teams were on the level of aggy in '89. Arky last year or this year's Tennessee team.

Just some thoughts as we wait out this weather.

TCU's coach did a chest bump like that at the conference tournament.

They must have been well behaved against us. I don't remember anything like this when we defeated Tennessee.

Yes he did. If u are able view the entire Vitello episode in context there was absolutely nothing for them to even be arguing about, much less a reason to bump the ump.

I was at that game. We absolutely murdered Ben McDonald in the game before the Title game. My dad and I were sitting over the LSU dugout and my dad starts hollering at McDonald "Hey Ben, I sure am glad the Astros didn't draft you!" as he 's walking off the field after getting yanked in the 3rd or 4th inning. And my dad is a very quiet person, that's what made it so funny.

Tennessee put the bulls-eye on themselves and relished in that role all year long. I can not remember a more cocky team than this bunch and bottom line is they couldn't back up all the talk/antics. They strike me as the kind of d-bags that show up to the golf course with eye-black smeared on.

... or that guy with fancy and $$$$$ ski gear and apparel, who really sucks at skiing.

(I hope no Coloradans lurk on these boards, I think this Texan just lobbed them a softball...)

So this apparent jacka$$ Vitello is bringing in both Paul Skenes and Maui Ahuna for official visits. Skye Messinger needs to talk with Maui and tell him not to commit until he’s made an official visit to Texas. I would think Skenes has plenty of goodwill towards the Longhorns after the very classy Regionals. Sounds like he won’t find that level of class and human decency around Vitello’s program. Plus…we’ve got Tulo. They don’t. We also win when it counts and go to Omaha. They don’t.
