The wonks with the stats sheets like them.

Sorry for Chase Burns--what a flame-throwing machine. Not so much for the rest of that bunch...

CWS appearances since 1947 ... pretty cool vizualization

That is the very thing A&M and OU get mocked for - being obsessed with another team's failure more than the success of their own by doing the horns down.

sometimes these teams get an easy bracket in, like Stanford, i also don’t think ole miss’ route was hard. Sometimes when that happens they usually go 2 and Q or get blown out by the other side of the bracket. Guess we will see soon enough. I actually think Stanford is pretty strong so this year all these teams may be pretty equal.

His statement about it not being intended to mock Texas is just dumb. It is absolutely meant to mock/taunt. Otherwise, why would fans of A&M, OU, and every single team Texas plays now (with the exception of Air Force) be doing it? That said, I think the overuse has diluted its significance. I saw a group of La Tech fans at the regionals with matching t-shirts that had the horns down on them. Who does that?

Fans of a school with no tradition, pride, class, or symbol of their own that anyone more than four blocks from their campus would recognize.

That said, I give OU a pass because they were the first and like the book title says, "When Football Became War". Over the years, I have found that OU fans have really mellowed while Aggies are trying to recreate the intense hatred of the 50s/60s.

If he did that at some time other than the National Anthem, or immediately preceding or after, who cares? He's just showing the world his a$$ and his juvenile mentality.

But if he did this as part of the performance of the National Anthem, then f him. What a POS.

    too bad for singer.....well deserved!!

Speaking of Down with HORNS, yesterday I saw a pic of an OU player receiving the champ trophy for their championship....In the same pic she was doing a Horns down.... I thought that was a violation for teams to do that!!!

    mms,

Aggies also raise their thumb, which I originally thought was a symbol they were playing "switch"

OU; I think their team hates us less. If Aggies could beat us one game, they would consider Omaha a success, put a self-made trophy in that empty case, and go home.

If aggy wins it all I predict a number of their players will rush the field with the horns down to pay their respects on daddy's field

Oh, I see after I read the article it’s the ol’ “after going through the sec gauntlet” excuse, all that experience propels them to the title. :rolleyes1:

Sorry, my reply below is not CWS....

Author: Robert Heard.... a MUST READ book for any serious fan of UT football.

A reader will learn MANY things about ou and the rivalry that will amaze you, plus stuff about UT football you did not know or have forgotten over time. Has TONS of good photos, too.

For those that may not know, Robert Heard was a reporter for United Press International (UPI was competitor of AP) when Charles Whitman climbed on the Tower. Heard got his shoulder permanently damaged by a Whitman bullet while trying to rescue a pregnant woman who had been shot.

He was an outspoken advocate about alcoholism being a disease and not a choice, and openly blamed his on the wound. Once a good friend.
