So, late Friday afternoon, employees at my company received the below email text. Interestingly worded. I read it several times to try and decide the approach / strategy that HR was taking to make this statement. Basic support? We are here for you? Remain calm? CYA?
Being a male, I do not know how abortions are treated under the company provided medical plans... and frankly don't care to go find out.
Knowing my company, me and a few co-workers agreed this statement was probably more of a basic CYA statement that the Legal Dept. advised them to issue. For anyone not familiar with the term CYA: Cover Yer ***:
"We are aware of today’s ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, which removes the right to have an abortion under the federal constitution, and instead allows abortion rights to be decided at the state level.
This ruling is a highly sensitive topic. At ____________, it is our responsibility to lead with our Core Values and treat each other with respect, kindness and understanding.
If you have any questions, please visit the Benefits Services site or reach out to your HR Manager.
Our top priority will always be the health and safety of our team, and we appreciate your continued support."
