I've seen studies that conclude yoga is a great way for athletes to reduce the likelihood of soft tissue injuries as well as speed up recovery from those types of injuries.

Yoga and classical dance (ballet, tap, etc) both offer tremendous alternate means of gaining strength and flexibility.

I haven't seen those studies, but I have no reason to think otherwise.

In the 80s, Jerry Rice used to get grief for doing ballet in the offseason for this very reason. How times have changed.

Didn’t know that, knew he was a karate man. Saw him wearing a gi at a Bank One in Irving around 1998. True story.

A couple of days until July 1.

In order to keep myself sane, with every day that passes with no announcement of an assistant coaching hire, I convince myself that it will be Sue Bird and we are just waiting until the time gets closer to her WNBA retirement in August-September to make an official announcement. :p

Or Sydney Colson. Although she hasn't announced her retirement, she's 32 years old and has been in the WNBA for over 8 years and is currently with the Las Vegas Aces.

Colson played at A&M from 2008-2012 when Vic was an assistant coach. Her teammate during those four years was Coach Sydney Carter. She is followed on IG by Coach Carter, Blair, Aaliyah Moore and recruits Madison Booker and Aaliyah Chavez.

It took Mike white two weeks to find a replacement yet Vic is 4 months away from the season and still no announcements besides coach Lovato.

What happened to the coaches in WTN and rowing? I did a diff on rowing to see Lenington is suddenly dropped from coaching staff list. But google doesn't show any news concerning her. And...there isn't a rowing section?

I'm curious about the effects of winning a NC in a particular sport and how that affects assistants' prospects.

WTN AC went to LSU as head coach.

Rowing and tennis both promoted volunteer assistants.

Ok. It’s been weeks with no assistant coach hiring….or real news on it. And second summer session getting ready to start. So what’s the next critical date? Is it end of WBNA season? Is it start of fall semester? Is it start of fall practice? Or first game? There has to be some rational reason to this madness? Or not.

How ‘bout “Vic gonna Vic”? Seriously, the only guess I can make at this point is he’s saving CDC money right now. He likes to say the WBB program won’t pay for itself for at least a few years while he builds the fan base. And since he can probably go poach an assistant even late in the process (like he did with April), maybe he’s just saving the department from having to pay two assistant salaries until absolutely needed. I can’t think of any other reason for it to have gone on this long. He did say in one of his pressers last fall that he takes his time trying to find staff that are the right fit. So maybe he’s not there yet?

I actually thought about how much money in salaries is being saved. But, the volleyball assistant coaches, softball assistant coach, and women's tennis assistant coach were hired very quickly. So, doubt that's Vic's motivation.

Exactly. I make this point on a somewhat regular basis, and still half the board worries themselves to death over it.

I suppose that just as Vic gonna Vic,
    HF posters gonna HF poster.

I actually appreciate Schaefer’s tardiness. Retirement for me is a tough job…..especially with Federer hurt, Brunson’s family hug, ‘Boys best player winning celebrity golf, Arch’s potential teammates going silent, Rangers closer becoming an opener, Stars with no money to sign anybody, no clean Tour de France rider to root for, LIV dumping boatloads of $$ on players who insist it’s to “grow the game”……and worst…..grandkids and our summer vacations over…….a little speculation on something as almost inconsequential as assistant coaching hiring is comforting. We all KNOW Schaefer has a plan…..it’s just frustrating not to be in on the inside information. Vic.. stay the course until it’ll be a footnote on last page of sports section. On a Monday morning retirement day…..thanks Schaefer for giving me this diversion. It could be worse….like fighting commute to get to an 8 am morning meeting with HR.

Agreed! I'd be willing to bet that those who NEED TO KNOW what the coaching staff will look like already know. Or, at the very least, they have a good idea.;)

Anyone who believes that going 1/4 of the year and counting missing 2 full time permanent assistant coaches is a common occurrence is simply sticking their heads in the sand. Now, if Vic is purposely waiting on these hires to maybe finish other commitments (like their WNBA season), that's plausible. No other reasons are obvious, that's for sure.

Those of us who are interested in discussing the coaching hires (or lack thereof) on a women's basketball forum in a thread labeled "Coaching Carousel" can continue to do so until the cows come home.

PURE SPECULATION on my part but I believe one will obviously be Blair and the second one I'm guessing will be Shane Laflin (I believe he was previously mentioned as a candidate on this forum before). The reason I think it may be him is because he can recruit right now with no stipulations whatsoever since he isn't a college coach. If so, its a great move by Vic to have a handshake agreement until the end of summer ball. Shane has unlimited access to every recruit in the nation at this time.

So, Cy-Fair Elite wins the U17 championship today.

Could it be that Vic has been waiting for the club season to conclude before announcing one of his hires? Not familiar with the best club coaches, but they definitely bring recruiting connections.

Sydney Carter started following Sadie Edwards on Instagram, and vice versa.

I guess I would have assumed back in April when Carter posted a photo of Sadie in her IG story that she was also following her on IG; but, I guess not as these follows are from today.

What ever happened to Dillingham? Have seen no recent photos of her at all with the team, Blair, Sydney, et. Both her IG and twitter accounts simply say "MissSt alum" and nothing of her current job.

On TexasSports.com, she's not listed with the other coaches or staff members; pretty sure she was back in April. I searched for her name, and did locate a bio:

Dominique Dillingham - Director of Player Development - Women's Basketball Support Staff - University of Texas Athletics (texassports.com)

Dominique Dillingham enters her third season on the Texas Women's Basketball staff and her second season as the Director of Player Development after serving as the teams' video coordinator in 2020-21.

Went back to look at last year's offseason hiring announcements; Calamity was announced on April 30, and April was announced on June 16.

So, for this season, here we are on July 18. The 2 pending assistant coaching hires have to be current WNBA players, right? I know some think they might be internal hires/promotions, but seems like that would have already happened if it was going to happen.

My money is still on Sydney Colson and if so, the wait might be a little longer as the Las Vegas Aces surely will make a run in the WNBA playoffs again. I really like what this feature article has to say about her including the high praise from Becky Hammon. Sounds like she has quite the personality among other things

Why Sydney Colson is grateful for every day she's in the WNBA

There are a lot of good nuggets in that article. Colson has a dynamic personality, leadership skills and WNBA experience that would ease my mind about her lack of coaching experience. She's at the top of my wish list for the open position.
