Predict the 2022 season record here. What (record) would you consider as showing good progress for Coach Sark.
I'm going with one more win and one fewer loss in both of your categories... A 10 win season would show definite progress, and is a mark our entire fanbase could rally around.
10-3 9-3 regular season and bowl win over a hapless Pac 12 team in the Alamo Bowl. Losses: Alabama and two losses to any of the other 11 we play. After last year I don’t have a lot of confidence in our coaches making game adjustments. I opined 9 wins in the hopes Patterson would either influence or take over the defense at some point during the season ala Diaz. Hopefully, immediately after the third loss and then we can lament “Why oh Why didn’t we make the move at the first of the year”.
10-2 or 9-3 I am hoping for 10-2 with the following schedule/results. That said I think we will drop one more most likely to Tech or K-State SEP 3 (SAT) 7 P.M. Hoping for 10-2 with bowl win - losses to Alabama & oSu Thinking 9-3 with a loss to someone we should beat - could be caused by looking ahead to OU, still celebrating beating OU, or the juju on The High Plains
I'll go along with Sabre - 10-2 would be great, 9-3 would be acceptable. I would like to see a competitive effort against Alabama - keeping it close into the fourth quarter. Realism says Bama is clearly the better team and should win - but making them earn it in a close game would be a great result.
Wow, kind of hard to handicap Sark's second season with so many variables and a young team with no proven QB, yet. I was far too optimistic last season. Think I predicted 10-2, maybe 11-1 Anyway, disappointing but progress would be 8-4, with 9-3 achievable. Throw in a bowl win and Sark gets a good report card. My .02
I’m happy with 9, 10 wins with this young roster would be a significant milestone with this young team. Sets UT up for a very bright futre.
9-4 ...Progress. Young qb and oline main factors holding back from more. '23 wil be our breakout year. Anything better or faster getting there in '22 is ahead of schedule JMHO
We will lose to ou as usual and struggle with Kansas and some of y'all acting like something is different this year 7-5 best case
Driver, What's changed is at OU, where the HC & DC can't stand each other, and nobody has ever liked the OC, particularly the BMDs. That's a trainwreck entering a tunnel with no exit. I don't see anyone else on the schedule being any better than last year. As for us, we have three QBs with good thumbs, and an OL that can't possibly be as bad as last year.
My head will predict instead of my heart, therefore: 8-4 and then a bowl win for 9-4 overall equals significant progress over 5-7.
I hate this thread every year. Texas with its resources should always be predicted at 10-2, as in 2 losses from 8-4 and 2 wins from 12-0. The fact that we haven’t achieved close to that recently is just depressing.
9-3 regular season is my Mendoza Line. Anything less would be a bit of a disappointment. However, I think 10–2 or even better is possible. The two biggest wild cards IMO are a), how quickly can the offensive line get up to speed, and b), how quickly will the quarterbacks become competent and proficient. No one really knows the answer to those two questions. There is a little doubt that, outside of injury, the quarterback play should be better, perhaps much better. Also, there is a little doubt that the OL will be improving throughout the year, and might be very good by mid-year. The question is, will we be good enough to not to get embarrassed by Alabama, and will we be proficient enough to enter the OU game with just one loss, and then win that game? Man do I hope so. I don’t expect miracles out of the defense but I do expect for that unit to be better than last year, and to not be a liability.
Still have o-line issues, new QB, and defense concerns. 7-5 acceptable, 8-4 would be great, 9 wins incredible...
I'm going to go with a solid 7-5 before a bowl game. Unless our defense has dramatically improved, we're still going to show some of the same cracks. I think we can (and will) put up 50+ points in some of those wins, but I also believe that teams like OK State and Baylor will actually be improved.
I'll go with a 7-5 regular season finish, maybe 8-4. We have a lot of talented but inexperienced players coming in so the depth/lack of experience is a question mark and will be an issue. I'd love to see this year's team go 9-3 or 10-2 in the regular season, but I don't think that will happen.
