Absolutely we have been subpar and mediocre since the 2009 NCG against Bama when Colt was knocked out of the game on the opening drive. Our records since that game have been:

    Brown
    2010 5–7
    2011 8–5
    2012 9–4
    2013 8–5

    Strong
    2014 6-7
    2015 5-7
    2016 5-7

    Herman
    2017 7-6
    2018 10-4
    2019 8-5
2020 7-3 (only played 9 regular season and the bowl game)

    Sark
    2021 5-7

That's 5 losing seasons starting with the 2010 season. 12 seasons, with 5 under .500, and only the 2018 season was a ten win year. Charlie was a perfect "no-show" for a bowl game the three years he was the HC. He was a waste of money, and time. But, let's see what Sark can do going forward to bring the program back to prominence in the college football world.

I already made my prediction but for those who aren’t expecting much out of the team this year, I present the following:

    - When have we entered the season with the best player in the country on the roster? Perhaps 1998 and 2005.

    - When have we entered the season with a top 5 receiving corps, and maybe the most talented starting “three” in the country? Perhaps never.

    - Sark is universally believed to be one of the best, if not the best offensive minds in the game, and almost certainly the best developer of QBs.

    - Probability that the O-line will be better than last year? I’d say at least 75%.

    - Probably that the D will be better than last year? Again, I’d put it at 75%.

    - Strength of the conference? I say “down” from last year, and in particular OU and Baylor.

So to me, unless both Ewers and Card are busts, I have to be somewhat optimistic.

Here's my prediction from last season:
It's year 2 of the Sark era. By all accounts, the Sark culture is taking hold now. The problem with establishing a new culture is you typically need some success for it to truly take root. So during the off-season there are always going to be reports about how much better the buy-in has become. But what's missing during the off-season is the adversity. How will this team handle adversity? That will be what determines the season. That's something we don't yet know. Last year's squad did not handle it well and crumbled after choking against OU.

What's different vs. what's the same?

    2021
    Inexperienced QB
    Shaky OL
    New Staff
    Dynamic skill players
    Almost no linebackers
    Over-hyped D-Line
    Little depth

    2022
    Inexperience QB
    Shaky OL
Dynamic skill players (even "dynamic-er" than last year)
    Almost no linebackers
Improved depth (other than at LB)

    Ceiling for 2022 is 10-2.

Floor is still at 5-7 but is MUCH less likely than last year.

Sure Wins - 4 (I have Kansas in this group for some reason)
    Likely Wins - 2
    Toss Ups - 2
    Likely Losses - 2
    Sure Losses - 2

There will be some talented new additions to the OL, but they are basically high school players. Starting freshmen on the OL is a recipe for inconsistency. Watch the first two games A&M played last year. They struggled to establish offensive production against Colorado and (to some extent) Kent State. Later in the year, A&M put up 34 on Alabama and the Tide's top D-Lineman had all of one tackle.

6-6 is more likely than 8-4 but also more likely than 5-7. I'm going with 7-5 as the most likely season record based on the shaky, inexperienced O-Line and underwhelming D-Line.

We lost our only real Dlineman (Jacoby Jones) And Thompson suffered a thumb injury that affected the rest of his season during the OU game. That had a bit to do with it.

I have a real feeling Card will start the season, so, not really inexperienced.

We'll see how shaky, but after a full season and off season under their belt and addition of depth I think they will be much improved.

Bijan, Rojo, Worthy, K. Robinson, Whittington, Hall, Neyor, Omeire?, Billingsly/Sanders and a bevy of TEs.
    Who you gonna cover/stop?

    We should outscore eerbody.

I’d gladly take 10-2 but to me, shock the world would be 11-1 or 12-0, and beating Alabama. Now “that” would shock the world.

    SH,
We have had a ton of talent for years now. Our players just can't put on the Texas helmet and think other teams are going to say OH $hit! And then comes the 5-7 season. Sabre, I know you would know much more than I would why we haven't coached up our players. I can't help but think that some of the players have been very entitled. Just my two cents, but probably why we have lost too many close games to teams with 1,2,stars.

    EDT,

I have requested for several years that we remove "TEXAS" from the front of the jersey because latter Brown teams, all of Stong's and Herman's seemed to think other teams would see that and roll over and play dead. It seemed that in some games, our players were thinking, "don't you know we're Texas".

There was no accountability, no leadership, no hunger. I have NEVER left a game early, but the last decade has given me cause to consider getting to El Patio or Bucee's in Bastrop ahead of everyone else.

Even in some of our better Mack Brown years (2002 and 2007 come to mind), I got the sense that "show up" was our mantra, and it was good enough for 10+ wins. They really didn't have the circle-the-wagons mentality that resilient teams exhibit.

Deep down, they still felt like Mackovic teams where the wheels could come off at any moment. We haven't been a "Sabanesque" team outside of maybe 2004-05 and the 60s.

2004-2005 was a direct result of Dick Tomey being here in 2004.

Also, I would submit than some of Fred's teams demonstrated it. David's, Mackovic, and most of Mack's not so much.

My serious guess is 8-4. I hope for better, but after last season's defensive collapses I can't be too optimistic.

Edit: 9-4 with a bowl win.

Great rundown. I thought the 2021 DL was going to be the strength.
Except I think UT has a little more depth at LB this year.
    1. Agent 0
    2. Jaylan Ford
    3. Gbenda
    4. Brockemeyer
    5. Devine Richardson
    6. Dimante Dorsey

We have Bush, I think LB and a few true FR
I think this is better than last year

Folks I’m shooting from the hip, please forgive any misspellings

Part of the hype for the DL was a result of the lackluster OL. The DL was dominant during two-a-days. Once UT started playing other teams with solid O-Lines the DL took a big step backward.

I'm eager to hear how the DL is doing during fall camp. If the reports are similar to last year the cause for worry is real. If the two units are trading good days that will be a good sign for the season, IMO.

Has Sark fixed the culture? That remains to be seen.
