I'm sure most have heard about her detainment for having vaping pens containing cannabis oils in her luggage. Not a very smart move. The charge carries up to a ten year prison sentence. I hope the Russians don't try to make an example of her due to the current situation in Europe but I would not be surprised if they do. She will at least probably be there a while. There is an American teacher that was detained last summer for the same charge still awaiting a trial.

Griner has played professionally in Russia almost a decade. Kinda odd that all of a sudden she is arrested (and held hostage according to the U.S. government). How hard is it to assume her innocence instead of guilt. She’s a fellow American first and foremost

Doesn’t bother you one bit????? You don’t even know of her guilt or innocence, but a very telling statement and no surprise who LIKED it….. She’s one of our own like it or not. Speaks volumes that you’ll trust the Russian system for truth…. She’s being used as a pawn. My heart goes out to Brittney and her wife….

Griner was doing drugs long before she ever played a game in Russia. She knew what he was getting in to. Or I suppose some think she didn't know the law.

She may be a good basketball player, but she'll never be mentioned in the same sentence with players like Michael Jordan, David Robinson and a few others when it comes to basketball and character. And she's not grinning right now.

Drugs??? Pot is a plant legalized in many states. Much milder than alcohol. Do you drink or have you ever? Have you taken prescription drugs? I doubt she wants to be mentioned with those men. But she will be mentioned with some of the great women players. You called her “he”….. I’m sure that was not intentional? Are you aware of her campaign to give free shoes to the poor and those in need in Phoenix? She’s incredibly generous and well thought of and respected by many. “She’s not grinning now”? Really? I’m not sure I’ve ever seen someone celebrate another’s pain with such enthusiasm…. I leave you and the others consumed with hate where you are…..

This thread lay dormant from March 6 until today. Other news articles have been published during that time. I have to think the post was intended, at least in part, to generate more discord on the board. This just after the warnings about politics on the 2023 recruiting thread.

This isnt politics. It’s character assassination, harsh judgment and perverted joy in the pain and suffering of another human being. Brittney was called “he” as well, so we can all draw our own conclusions. I pity any person who finds joy in the pain and suffering of another fellow human being!!! My heart goes out to both she and her wife….

Yes, which was predicted by all legal experts. You have to do so if you want any chance at freedom. Means nothing really. Russia decides what they want to do. She’s at their mercy, guilty or innocent.

Be really careful when traveling to such places. I generally have a rather low regard for the State Department, but one should always read their travel advisories before traveling to, or working in, any non-1st World country. Such places typically don’t afford individuals the sort of protections found in the US Constitution, and their courts are significantly more corrupt than ours.

I read one site saying that the State Dept was telling people plainly NOT to go to Russia at the time she flew there (or before). I’ve been to the Third World, and places in between us and the Third World (such as Russia). Watch out and don’t cross the authorities on their home turf. The fact the you are an American doesn’t make you special over there, and it won’t save you from time in a Third World jail. Be careful if and when you travel to such places, and follow the State Dept advice re: travel advisories.

I'm sure you are disliking the prison sentence, Bobcat, and not the post itself.

I have heard from several news sources (probably more opinion than news, but still) that Russia wasn't going to negotiate anything regarding Griner until after she received her sentence. Now, my personal opinion is that her release is a good thing to work towards via diplomatic channels, but I'm not a big fan of a one for one trade of Griner for that arms dealer Viktor Bout. Griner plus several other political prisoners makes more sense in my opinion.

What's the over / under on her sentence only lasting six months before she's prisoner swapped?

Griner has been picking up nice checks for some years to go play in Russia, which is known around the world as being a corrupt nation with a government run for the benefit of crime syndicates by a psycho dictator who gets worse and worse as times go by.

Please excuse me if I have no sympathy for her at all----she's no better than the NBA, which whines about the horrible way blacks are treated here (genocide!!) but sucks up to China, where they still practice slavery.

Screw her and LeBron and whole pack of stooges who suck up to murderous criminals in order to fatten their wallets.

Griner will probably be the only 6'8" black woman in the Russian prison- "Diversity"
Griner had the same outcome as other Russian druggies- "Equity"
Griner will enjoy the same prison benefits as the general population- "Inclusion"

Suddenly, DEI looks bad to the libs?

She should celebrate. She can find another wife in that Russian prison. I hear those Russian women can be really kinky. She's probably grinning again already.
