So, he read an "offensive" word, that some POS athlete wrote, to a bunch of mindless ******* dolts and HE is apologizing? What a *****. Good riddance, cry baby.
Zero tolerance policies are to blame. He was out the door regardless. At least, in this way by resigning, he was able to tell his side of the story. If he fought this, he would have been escorted out by security and his name besmirched by those dolts.
The timing of Gundy leaving blow/u a few weeks before the season and causing disruption to their program along with the possibility of a few recruits not going to blow/u. PRICELESS!
This 'OUDNA' Gundy speaks of, where the family trees grow like telephone poles, and sons send their brothers Father's Day cards.
6721, there absolutely has to be more to the story. The statements released so far smell like a hastily-developed cover-up. Sounds like the ou athletic department is trying to keep a lid on the story - hoping it will blow over before the real story leaks from some lower levels (perhaps from the players?).
Exactly, 6721. Hastily-developed cover-ups inevitably spring a leak somewhere - there are just too many potential leaks. Recall Watergate - it took a long time, but the leak did eventually burst forth.
I don’t think there is a cover-up. I think it was Gundy hoping to avoid an soul-destroying university investigation.
yeah this. sounds like the vast majority of players wanted him to stay. hoping that means that the black players know he has respect for them, and they him. they build real relationships with these guys. i hope those are still intact edit: ou still SUX
I am going to edit this based on a recent experience I observed in the corporate workplace. I suspect one of the players filed a “formal complaint”. It only takes one to do so even if 99 other players support the coach. Once this is done, it’s nearly impossible to handle the situation “in-house” because it involves following federal law, etc. As an employee, they have 2 choices: 1/ go through the process hoping your reputation and your job stays intact, 2/ resign to short-circuit the process. For private companies, there is no investigation if there is no longer an employee to investigate.
Didn't wish this on Gundy, but I won't be mad if it leads to Sooner de-commits. Maybe his brother will hire him.
I now fear the OU game. "More to this"? The guy has more enemies in the Dust Bowl than Tom Osborne. Go past all the "we are so sorry & will really miss him", and find anyone that likes the guy, particularly alumni and coaches. Can't believe I wanted to recruit him out of HS.
Chicago, I am counting on there being much, much more to this story. This makes no sense? If it’s the word we are all thinking, players say this word ad naseum (sp I know grammar cops) , so should they also leave?
Had to come down from the President, right? An apology would suffice otherwise, right? Unless they wanted him out for other reasons? Great recruiter though so yeah, this is weird all around.
How does someone held in such low regard last so long by so many at the the same place? Let me guess. You could tell but then you'd have to kill me?
IDE, I never figured it out. The guy got in shouting matches during the games with other coaches. Never met a supporter or alum that said anything nice about him. I asked one time if he had dirt on Smith or the president of Phillips 66 or what. No one talked other than to say they couldn't wait until he was gone. I was stunned that Venables kept him on because they never got along when they worked for Stoops. His brother is just the opposite. Yes, I would have welcomed Mike as our HC when Powers humped the puppy on Saban, at any time during the Strong and/or Herman years.
In the Gundy tweet in op the tweets coming from former players are very supportive of Gundy. Mixon Tony Cassilas many more. Very puzzling
hic Got it. So players of many years are speaking out on his positive impact in their lives but maybe he was a jerk to everyone else and this was a way to get rid of him.
