Watched the Texas vs Tech game on LHN last night. I just have to say it was not a good reminder even though we won. Watching Jamison get beat like a rented mule time after time was very frustrating. Watching that ridiculous I formation of DL is about the most insane thing I have seen. Hearing Dusty Davorcik talk about how innovative PK is just reaffirms our opponents love who we have as a DC because it makes their life easier. We do not have the speed on DL to put a DT or edge guy at LB level and hope he can run 5 yards before he even makes contact with an OL and think that will be a good fit. The one thing that did stand out was our offense did put up points last year, 70 in this game alone. We hit some weak spots through the year which forced our d to be out there longer than they could support. We all know how weak our OL was but watching Jones get worked like a rag doll by a weak Tech d was not encouraging. I believe Techs coach and their new DC will be formidable going forward. We will have a great offense but PK is a huge liability until he proves he is not. For those homers who never see the truth, good for you. Never knew a problem to be solved until you can admit it exists. Texas has the talent on campus to be much improved. Worried about game 2 with bama. If we find a pass rush and run defense perhaps that game will not be a trip to the barn that I expect.

No more excuses about players not buying in. We pay these coaches millions of dollars to deliver a team that the fans expect. If players are not "buying in" and the coach still trots them out there, what does that say about the coach?

Its 7am and ou still sucks!!!

I was watching the live Tech game at a Chuy's after a funeral and I was far less enthusiastic about the outcome than most. It proved that our D was still crap against decent offenses, and while we basically did the same to their D, anyone with half a pulse knew that Tech had an awful defense. We shouldn't be giving up 500+ yards and "needing" to outscore opponents. The 639 yards we put up were the 12th best in school history... which gave everyone this false sense of what Bijan and Worthy were all about until they got hurt as well.

I actually believe that Dusty Dvoracek is the most benign Sooner TV announcer towards us. And that's saying something.

We'll get a better sense of what Coach K is going for this season. You're correct about the buy-in... and the positions at which we needed the most buy-in were either playing injured (Overshown), biding their time and joking on the bus (Foster & Adimora), or woefully out of position (Collins, Davis, Oghoufo, etc.). It wasn't a winning combo. I'd be shocked if our statistical results were the same or worse on D, but I also can see some speedbumps in the form of better offenses from teams like OK State and Baylor.

    11,

I don't know what their talent level will be, but Tech's new coaching staff came from Western Kentucky, where they made the scoreboard look like a pinball machine. That OC/QB coach is young and outstanding. I think they will prove a problem for K.

I bet we'll see a rotation of Edge players until we find 2 that will consistently put pressure on the QB. Could be newcomers, could be grizzled veterans. We've brought in a lot of Edge players who look good on paper.

A little bit of improvement at edge, interior, LB, and DB can go a long way due to synergies. We will see

How many different ways can the OP devise to bash any given coach?

    I put the over/under at 50.

Keep burying your head in the sand. For Texas to be near the bottom of 132 D1 schools on defense and you still dont see a problem with PK explains where you come from. This guy makes millions of dollars a year and he cant deliver a respectable defense from the kids we have recruited? Really?

Keep pissing and moaning about one bad season. It is obviously what you do best.

If it happens again this year, I will be right with you by late October.

I hope you do finally wake up. One bad season? Really? Have you been in a coma for the last 12 years? On longhorn network, the 2008 Texas/ou game was on. We were absolutely loaded on that team and so was ou. The difference in the attitude of the defense is night and day. You cannot show one single instance that pk is a fire eater like Muschamp, or Patterson, or Saban, or Venables or any other solid DC. Its obvious you are not willing to see a problem and address it. Your prerogative.

I’m not one to argue on the boards but I have to pose a question. How do you equate the last 12 years to PK?

I’m on the team with Sangre - we’ll see what happens this year.

Do not equate the 12 years to PK at all. He owns last year which I believe was statistically the worst D in UT history. My 12 years was how long its been since Texas fielded they type of D that we had when Muschamp was here. In my view, he was the last exceptional DC we had. Again, Texas should never be at the very worst in D1 football in any category. We have the talent and resources to not be there. We should have the arrogant attitude that we belong at the top of almost every category. I believe on Offense we were very good last year. Obviously not good enough to make up for a abysmal defense. If we had any semblance of an OL then it would have made up for some of the deficiencies of the defense. I still stand by my belief that almost all of the freshmen OL will be starting and/or playing significant minutes early in this year.

    legend,

I am not here to dispute your position because I love defense and would rather win a game 3-0 than 52-49. I am not the least bit happy with last year's D, but I also recognize that the coaches had constant turmoil and negativity in the locker room ("warts"). It was beyond horrible. Sark had no idea what he was walking into, and there were times I was afraid he was jumping on the first train out of Travis County. Sark had Roschon, and that young man was the glue that held most of the locker room together.

With those distractions removed, I'm willing to give K a chance, BUT I am also willing to evaluate Sept 10 and Oct 8 and send K on an extended vacation on October 10 if there isn't marked improvement. Remember that Lou Holtz fired Gary Darnell during a game - we are paying you mega-bucks; earn it or hit I-35.

We don't want him in Dallas. Send him west on 290 to 10 and follow him to the state line..

I thought if he can't do it here, Venables has an opening on his staff.

That is Venables problem. Besides we do not want another Bobby Jack Wright moment.

Have seen the comment many times about a fractured locker room. I presume we will never truly know what that meant. I presume (perhaps incorrect) that these guys are competitive and want to get to the next level. Sucking the way our D did last year is not the way to get there. Again, I refer back to watching the 2008 Tx/ou game. Just the dline alone is night and day difference to how our dline plays. We never hold lane integrity and we rarely pressure the qb. Given the chance, just watch that 08 game again. Was that dline that much better than what we have now? They did have Orakpo and he was a game changer. We did not have anyone last year exhibit a fraction of what Orakpo did in 08. At the same time watching our LB's in the 08 game was eye opening compared to what we have now and ou was just as respectible at lb. I know that bobino was undersized but just played lights out. Muckelroy was also all over the field. Do we have any of this today? I thought the kid from Highland Park (Prince Dorbah) was one of those but he has yet to make a name for himself. I have no issue with giving pk a shot but I also know that Muschamp or any other DC worth his salt would have turned in a different result last year even with a "fractured" locker room. Muschamp would have cleaned house and said those remaining will do it my way and will be successful or at least thats my viewpoint. Good thing is we only have a few weeks to know what PK will produce this year. Hookem!

Just know you guys are going to look really stupid if Texas beats Bama. But no one will care at that point, so there is that.

I think legend could be right about PK. However I'm fine on him earning his reputation before slamming him.

But I know elite Front 7 recruits have questioned him. And that could be a self fulfilling prophecy.

I cant think of anything more worthless than to be a dirt burglar but if you are honest, you know that we would love to have a fire eater like venables running our D. Muschamp was like that, Chizik was as well. Strong was supposed to be but it never materialized here. No idea why but it just didnt.

My new all time favorite Longhorn could be Rochon. Great kid, great leader, stuck to his work ethic and principles during a horrible era in our history . It would have been easy to quit

Right up there with Sam, Nobis, Street, McKay, Earl, Johnny Johnson, Scholtz, Vince.

PK... I've already aired out my grievances concerning him, don't want to beat the dead horse . His poor performance last year should have resulted in him leaving but he's still here. It's put up or shut up time.
