Which defensive coordinator instituted "bull in the ring" at Texas? I believe it was either Carl 'Bull' Reese or Greg Robinson. I am thinking it was Robinson.

I remember how excited everyone on this board was because for a while before that time many considered Texas to be "soft".

Also, I heard that Robinson had passed away a few months ago. Was very sorry to hear this as he did a great job while here at Texas.

At least they paired them by size. Kind of a sustained wrestling match.

    DKRfan,

I don't think anyone "considered" Texas to be "soft". TEXAS WAS SOFT as long as that lardass, waste of space Puppydog Madden was on payroll. Although I wasn't around for the vast majority of them, I think it is safe to say NO Texas team was ever as soft as those under Brown & Madden. Those stats are supported by our great showing in the NFL draft and subsequent performances.

So, while I liked Bull Reese, and credit Dick Tomey with Robinson's accomplishments in Austin, I can't blame any DC for the overwhelming incompetence of Madden.

Last year's 'croots to this year's prospects: "When they promised me I'd be able to pull all the wool I could handle and more on campus, I believed them. I just didn't know they were being literal."

Maybe at least a small part of this decision means we’re in really good shape with Toviano??

If anyone is wondering, IT said Matthews' decision wasn't related to anything with Toviano.

Hamilton at IT saying the Texas staff was surprised, and the reporters who cover Tennessee were surprised.
Supposedly the family even went as far to tell the Texas staff there was nothing to worry about.

    Welcome to sec sec recruiting.

Not sure how they could know when they didn’t know Matthews was going to the Vols.

    I guess it’s back to discussing everyone’s
personal experience with the battle of the boards.

This is more annoying to me than actually losing the recruit. Misleading a program is not cool, regardless of which school is mislead. (With one exception, of course.)

I imagine what NIL means that if a team is not recruiting as strongly they can put more eggs into a top tier recruit basket. Maybe he was Tenn's #1 or #2 target. He wasn't ours, and maybe that affected the bottom line NIL wise?

Linebacker Eyabi Anoma, a former five-star recruit at Alabama, has re-entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to multiple reports.

This should make us feel better about the LB position in the future.
