Damn y'all... so sad to learn of this - he was my team fav / idol starting when I was in 9th grade in 1968.

He was one of THE most highly coveted and recruited HS players in the 1960's and maybe beyond that decade. My Dad went on-an-on about him during 1966 recruiting - that DKR had to GET Worster.

He played on the Frosh team in 1967, and then was the starting Wishbone FB 1968, 1969, 1970...

    RIP Steve Worster :hookem:

Steve Worster was one of my pre-teen crushes, along with Bill Bradley, James Street, and Johnny Bench. I had his poster on my bedroom wall and read every single word I could find about him. I treasure my memories of the 1969 season; I attended every game that season. I was 12. All the Longhorns loomed large, but none were larger than Woo Woo Worster.

The RB the wishbone was built for. When Joe Paterno wanted to come to Austin to get help installing the wishbone at State Penn, DKR told him, "Coach, you don't want my offense; you want my fullback".

From helping make your rib protector, watching you break for over 60 yards on your second drive in 64, the infamous cut from the sharpened cleats, your Dukes of Hazard driving on 290, thanks for the memories my friend.

Tell Bum a huge Longhorn Nation thanks him for talking you into going to Texas even though he hated us.

From the 1969 Wishbone backfield, sadly Street, Bertelsen & Worster are gone, only Ted Koy remains.

    All died way too young.....

The first Longhorn running back I ever saw in a live game as an elementary kid. Never forget how he ran through bailer that day in the old bailer stadium. Made a lasting impression on me to make sure I was truly meant to be one of the burnt orange family.Rest in Peace number 30!

He was a great one. I was waking to class one winter day in 1970, I think, and saw Worster wearing his Longhorn letterman’s jacket, carrying his own books. I remember being in awe. He was a rock star; good looking, great athlete, campus hero. RIP big guy.

It is amazing that 3/4 of the 1969 starting backfield are gone. It seems like every week another hero/heroine, like Olivia Newton-John last week, passes. Guess I’m getting old.

Olivia sure was great in the wishbone. Deceptive speed and could really take a pounding.

    I get it.

Sorry to go a little off topic....

Several very close personal friends of mine and a loved one died in 2020... one of them I'm still not over and I may never fully get over.

Farrah died several years ago, Olivia now, Street in 2013, Bertelsen earlier this year and now Worster.

Damn, I hate getting older and people you love, like, admire, respect, friends with, etc. die !!
