    Bubba,

If you find anyone that likes Cale, take them to him immediately because he's still looking for his first friend.

One of my favorite Texas/OU memories is OU having third down, Cale with his back to the field yelling at Long in the pressbox. I believe White was the QB. He got so upset that he turned to Al Dowdle (I think that's the only OU game he ever officiated) in disgust and screamed "timeout".

If there is anyone more disliked in Norman than Cale, it was Chuck Long.

Al only ever did one OU game because he was an SWC referee who owned the funeral homes in Poteau and Heavner. He knew one bad call, he would lose all his business.

    Bubba,
This is good news as this is an indicator that Texas will be 11-0 in 2025 as well.

    7-5 and we beat Kansas

Hopefully USC finishes second in the PAC this year and goes to the Alamobowl---I have four tickets in the usual place on the 45 yard line and I want to see them play the third place team in the Big 12, which I am guessing will be Baylor or Iowa State. Okie State is always a pleasure to watch in that game in the past but I think they are first or second this year.

Texas v USC would be a nice match as we would get another shot at Lincoln Riley.

But I think we are a year away from the top three in the conference.

I saw Texas dominate on defense in 04-05, then again in 08-09. Turnovers were created for defensive scores. Plus Texas held leads late. When the defense was tired.

As soon as we begin seeing the D hold 4th Qtr leads. We have something! Not too worried about the offense. Some youngsters on OL perhaps. As long as Ewers plays well, Texas will be in games late. Question is, can the D hold up late?
8-4 is most likely. 7-5 and 9-3 are possible. The D must step up! That’s our Achilles heel. OL also. 2023-2024 could be really good!

That fact, who’s our QB gonna be, is why I say hopefully we hit 7-5 record. I’ll be there regardless but my expectations are tempered. Now next year I think we should (emphasis on should because of our history) roll.

A perspective on the game on September 10th from my Alabama buddy, arguably the most knowledgeable college football fan I know:

“Ewers is interesting as I’ve heard a broad spectrum from talent galore to a head case. Agree that the oline is the key. Bijan is likely the best back in the country, if the line plays well it will be difficult for us as we have no stud d line. We likely have the best OLB pair but dline is questionable and ILB have been awful. We do have a sixth year senior who finally is going to play Jalen Moody who I really like. DB’s are highly rated but have proven that stars mean nothing. Hook Em. Jimbo is a tool btw”

Uncertainty still follows this teams. The ceiling and potential is very high but starting QB is uncertain and even if Ewers wins we haven't seen what he can do at the College level.

The offensive line had a sweet 2022 recruitment. Might be great for 23, 24 & 25 but expecting true freshman offensive lineman to come in and start is expecting a lot.

The defence was hot trash last year. Year 2 in the scheme. Gary Patterson to advise, I'd sure expect some improvement but will it be enough for a Big 12 title, I'm just not sure.

In saying all that I cam see 8-4, 9-3 if the above takes steps in the right direction.

That would be a good foundation for what should be a big 2023 with the O Line, this offence and hopefully a decent defence.

1st Fall scrimmage is in the books and reports are the DL had its way with the OL. This is not ideal.

Possibility exists for the OL to gel, but another poor showing against last year's 100th ranked Defense and it's panic time.

An avg DL whipping a below avg OL is a double whammy. OL gets discouraged and the DL gets an inflated view of its ability. Worse yet, neither experience the type of competition needed to properly develop.

8-4 acceptable, anything less is disappointing.
9-3 is what I thinking and am hoping for.
    10-2+ would be exceptional
Top this season off with a bowl win!

You know I watched some games yet again last night. The offensive issues were QB and WRs not making plays. The offensive line was solid to very solid.

The defense was interesting. We tried more speed. It failed miserably in one game. The other was one terrible job of discipline along with some close but not quite good enough efforts.

We will be better. dipsh** fans want to run off some solid players and ordain some others that really didn’t do much impactful.

10 wins including the post season. And 1-2 misses that make you think damn.

Just to clarify some of my cryptic post, I watched the WVU and BU games again. In both games, the QB and WRs left plays on the table. Versus WVU Worthy and Washington both dropped first down passes early. Easy ones too. BU it was Moore, but Thompson had chances to make plays all day and missed half of them. The two runs that stood out as negatives were missed blocks by TEs. The Oline faired pretty well in both games.

Versus BU, Ovie had the wtf moment on BUs long TD run. Like junior high type contain issues that turned a No yard gain into a 30 yard TD. Then a few other plays that just didn’t break our way.

Versus WVU, Blackwell got some run. It’s not necessarily fair to him, but he was at the center of several big plays in limited action. He played 4 plays. 26 yard run (longest of the day) right at him. TD pass near his zone. And I think he was on the field on one of those long 3rd down conversions.

Ford and Murphy get some undeserved hype. They’re both young and have some skills. But there’s a lot of late season/off-season kissing of their asses that’s unwarranted to date. Then the hell Jones gets is off base. Brock was better than Ford in the WVU game, and he’s damn near always more effective in the pass game.

The bigger point is that there’s hope for the defense. And the offensive line was in pretty damn good shape until Angilau went down. Hutson coming in early helps. If we get improved play from TE, QB and WR, the offense can be lethal.

I think 9-3 plus a bowl win would be a good season. Better would be great. Bama, OSU, Baylor will be tough. Not convinced the defense is good enough to beat any of those 3

8-4 is the minimum to show real improvement. I think 9-3 is doable if young, but much more talented O-line begins to gel. Ewers is a much bigger step up at QB from CT than a lot seem to be giving credit and that should be clear from Nebraska game. He’ll have his turnovers and growing pains but will complete many more deep balls this year. Watching all the overthrown open balls to Texas WR from last year will make you puke. If offense produces in 4th consistently, will take a lot of pressure of defense. Offense last year in 4th quarter… look at the stats on drive lengths and results. No wonder we gave games away. I can see the team getting hot in late October and November and beating Baylor at home. If Texas covers the spread against Bama, it won’t be an Aggy moral victory, but it will give me much more reason to look forward to conference play.

After the debacle of last year, I just don't have a good feeling about this year either.

After three seasons of Herman, it was easy to do a risk weighted analysis of the season - 67% wins against the middle tier of the B12, 100% against the Kansas schools, and 33% against TCU/OU/OSU.

For Sark, it's hard to tell yet if his O-fer against about everyone was due to a series of strange events last year, or if he's a dud.

Gonna split the difference for my crystal ball, and go with 8-4, with 4 games that could go either way - OU, Baylor, OSU, and TCU, plus 1-2 losses that UT shouldn't have had.

Before him we lost 3, 5, and 3 regular season games. So 9-3 is about the lowest I can start to consider "progress".
