'Bout time. The free-for-all aspect of the portal was never its intention. While I don't mind kids transferring, I do think the whole "I didn't get my minutes in the first 2 games of the season so peace out" angle was upsetting a lot of fans. They can still think it, but can't make any real moves.

Great question...not in the top 15.
Weird seeing media pimp schools like Miami and Tennessee every year who've done literally nothing and ignore others.
Again...its mostly fpi...but hard to logically justify a conference champ with coaching stability, tough D, and likely improved QB play being left below the team they beat for the CCG (who lost a D coordinator and many starters) and another team they also beat who has had massive turnover both in leadership and on the field.
I expect BU to be just as stingy on D but with an upgraded QB in Shapen (whom I expect to emerge as one of the best in the Big12 and having real NFL potential).

BTW...on returning production...for those who dont know...UT has just 4 players on O in 3rd active year or more. Not sure about D.

It would be interesting to know if Texas and/or nou could somehow derail this. If they don't agree to the new contract, does that release them from liability which allows them to move?

I don't believe so. I haven't dug through bylaws, but as long as you're a member and haven't gone through the separation process yet, I think they still abide by conference rules. I don't know what sort of liability you're referring to.

I think Texas and OU band together on this and say "do whatever the hell you want but don't expect any help on this matter." Worse yet, we could band together, demand 1/14th of the pot for 2 years (harming ourselves financially but not to the point of insolvency), further harming the rest of the conference because they lose 1/7 of the jackpot for those years, and then leave anyways. That alone might be enough for ****** athletic departments like ISU and Cincy to vote to kick us out early.

It seems to me that the events of this week involving the Big12 increase the chances of all parties involved being good with an earlier UT/ou exit.
I get the sense the Big12, under the leadership of a new commissioner and with other outside parties involved like TV...and with potential expansion negotiations ongoing, are ready for a fresh start and the two former flagbearers will be more than happy to oblige for a small decrease in any penalties.

I still don't think they get into the SEC before 2024.

CBS has no incentive to give up their sweetheart SEC deal a year early.

Without the new ESPN deal there is no built-in escalator clause for adding schools... meaning no additional revenue in 2023. The 14 existing SEC schools would have to take a 12.5% pay cut if they came over in 2023.

I guess UT could agree to a smaller share to ensure the other schools don't lose money, but I doubt they would.

Regarding the GOR and the Big12 buyout, ESPN could sweeten the deal for the Big12 in an effort to grease the skids. Let's say breaking the GOR and the buyout totals out to $100 million per school. ESPN could agree to add $20 million per year on a 10 year deal to cover those fees. So a 10-year $4 billion deal could become $4.2 billion. In exchange, the Big12 would nullify the exit fees and cut UT/OU loose.

That's the ESPN side. I can't think of a reason FOX would make any concessions for the privilege of losing two marquee brands.

With this many participants, two exit negotiations, multiple contracts, and no small amount of bad blood, I can see this bogging down rather than getting resolved.

All valid points. Im not sure what the odds are for 2023...
But I think the odds for '24 as opposed to '25 are rising fast

It'll be interesting to see if the TV deal is big enough for the Big12 to be attractive to Colorado or the Arizona schools. The Big12 was left for dead 12 months ago and now might become one of the poaching conferences. What a time to be alive!

Often times the difference between the short gains and bigger gains, failure and success, wins and losses is the teaching of the little things, the nuances, of each players play.

I like that Sark says both qbs are "coachable". Speaks well for them.
Ain't Nobody better to develop qbs.

It should be titled: “Bright lights and blonde haired women” to match the song title by Ray Price.
