I’m not a big MLB fan but I’ve been watching these guys lately and that’s a pretty complete team. They could make another run.

I turned the game on when it was 7-3, I think in the 7th inning. Didn’t really expect the comeback but the Stros just keep swinging. Yordan is a beast and when he made connection on that homer everyone instantly knew it was gone. Exciting finish to this one!

I wish I would have seen it live. I saw Billy Hatcher’s home run in the 1986 NL Championship against the Mets in the Dome. Yesterday had to be close to that one for the crowd.

I was thinking the same thing. It had to be insane inside the stadium when that ball landed.

Same here. Went to an early dinner and saw the end of the game from my table while looking at the TV in the bar area. Would check in occasionally on the game as I thought Astros had no chance. Amazing finish.

What does 111 regular-season wins get you? One postseason win, in this case. Earlier in the year Manager Dave Roberts basically promised a WS win.

Dionysus, I'm frankly surprised to see the Dodgers fall to the Padres. I expected to see the Dodgers and the Astros in the World Series.

'86 had several memorable late-season games...including the Mike Scott no-no to clinch and the Glenn Davis HR in Game 1 against the Mets to win a 1-0 game (just missing a banner with a target on it and that said something like "hit it here"). I was at that game but had to settle for Game 6 (the Hatcher game) on videotape and radio...

And then there was the LA Times op/ed as the playoffs started that suggested the Dodgers should just be given the WS this year, that they were THAT good...

The 2022 Dodgers seemed a slam-dunk certainty to get to the WS and win it all. This is what I love about sports — maybe the best team is the one that knows how to win when it really counts.

The Mets and Braves won 100+ games also and have been eliminated. Crazy season.

Except Gustafson never walked the tying run to get to Alvarez because everyone knows Cubans can't hit.

I will be honest, I have such an anger at Houston. I think what makes me the angriest is that they have clearly been the best team in baseball for the last seven or so years and they are a team that in any other circumstance I would love watching just as a pure baseball fan. But I cant get past the cheating in 2017. It was so long ago but every time I see them I think trashcans, trashcans, trashcans.

Never the less, I was pleasantly surprised yesterday that even with that backdrop I was still happy to see the Yankees lose. I guess my Yankee hatred really is stronger than everything else.

That bugs me too, less so because of any unfair advantage but because it speaks to the character of those who choose to do it. I have wondered if maybe cheaters should be banned from baseball for life.

But moving forward from there, assuming they’re not cheating any more, I have to respect the juggernaut the Astros have built. 7-0 now in the postseason and that was a damn good Yankees team they just swept. And they’re pretty fun to watch.

People can say what they want about the '17 Astros, but the reality IS that they won Game 7 ON THE ROAD. They were also not the only team doing some manner of 'cheating' that season, as we now know through other investigations.

It seems reasonable to presume nothing hinky is going on this year...pretty difficult to for the pitching to be the product of cheating given the exam of a pitcher after each half-inning. Those low ERA's and high K rates didn't just miracle themselves into the stat box.

And even if people want to cling to 2017, the reality is that this is now SIX years in a row that the Astros were in the ALCS and will be their fourth WS in that span. It is time that people accept that, just maybe and I am just spit-balling here, they really ARE better than other better-funded teams.

And at this point, I don't care if the WS goes seven games...I want revenge on Philly for 1980. Make the players watch that NLDS and make Dusty watch them as well so that mistakes of that series do not repeat themselves. I believe the Astros have the pitching to take this one...I just worry about that five-cent head chomping on a toothpick.

Given that the two remaining choices for AL Champion were Houston and the Yankees, I'm happy with the outcome. It will be interesting to see if the Yankees will pony up the big bucks to sign Judge long-term in the off-season.

You do know that the mastermind of the garbage can caper is now a member of the Yankees broadcast team and the biggest advocate is now the manager of the motherf*cking Boston Red Sox

Funny story (to me; not my wife)...the last time I saw the Stros in person (@ Enron Field) I was with my wife & 2 (then) young sons. I was in a wheelchair. As the game ended I put the car keys in my lap, turned & pushed about 30' toward the exit. Looked down & the keys were gone. I mean, Black Hole gone. My wife & I retraced my path a brazilian times; then started going thru trash can after trash can after trash can after trash can...up to our shoulders in 1/2 eaten hot dogs, chili, queso, beer & a little vomit thrown in for good measure. The keys were in a black hole & have never been seen since outside that black hole. 2 hrs later (well after mid-nite) the locksmith showed up to unlock our car (where we had a spare key).
1 month later we took the boys to DKR/Memorial for a game. After the game we walked back to the truck (I was on crutches), as we approached I pull the keys out of my pocket 20' from the truck & hung them by the key ring on my pinky finger. By the time we got to the truck...black holed again. (Had to give some business to the Austin locksmith industry too.)
That was over 25 yrs ago. To this day when we arrived @ our destination I gladly surrender the keys to my wife. If anybody ever goes inside a black hole & finds 2 sets of vehicle keys, they're mine. Pls return them so I can get my wife off my back.

Only true for the first half of the season. After the All Star break, the Yanks were pedestrian at best.

I am in the same boat. I always used to say there is one team in all of sports that I was a fan of before the Longhorns, and that is the Houston Astros. I attended the 4th game ever played in the Astrodome. I was mad when they abandoned the Dome, but I got over it. I was mad when they went to the AL, I really thought that was it, but I couldn't quit em then, either.

But the cheating clearly bothered me the most, because I did quit em over that. I know all the mitigating circumstances but I can't change the way I feel. As Astros fans, we always comforted ourselves year after year that at least we weren't a bunch of cheaters like those (insert most hated team name here). Until we were.

I blame the so-called player-leaders like Correa, Springer, Bregman, and yes, sadly, Altuve. If those guys would have backed AJ up, the cheating would have stopped. Admittedly, AJ is the boss and it's his responsibility to put a stop to it, and he tried. It wasn't good enough, he wasn't strong enough, whatever. Still, if those guys I named would have said, "Hey, Skip doesn't like it, so knock it off" I believe it would have stopped.

I had successfully not paid attention to them until I heard about the Yankee fans chanting "We Want Houston". That kind of piqued my interest, and I have watched a couple of innings here and there. Correa and Springer are gone and I am willing to give Altuve a pass because he is the greatest Astros player ever IMO. Bregman not so much so I'm not "back" but winning a WS without the asterisk would help. I guess I will just have to see.

Astros should win the WS, probably in a sweep. It is hard to see the Phillies winning more than one or two games tops.

The economy is rooting against the Phillies...bad things have happened when a Philadelphia baseball team wins the World Series...
