It has been previously established that Sark is a different play caller when Card is in the game. While Card himself doesn't make much of a positive impact, I think if he goes into the game Sark stops calling these stupid 25+ yard plays over and over. Every single time we got momentum he'd call one of those plays effectively setting up the defense for the next two plays....drive over. Stop calling those alone and I feel like we probably would have had better sustained drives and momentum. As bad as Ewers was yesterday I think Card could effectively manage that short/middle distance passes just as well, but different play calling wins us the game.

I'm sick and tired of the wind excuse. The flags on the goalposts were barely blowing and it certainly didn't affect Sanders.

Does any rational person really believe Card would've had a completion % under 50% against about the worst pass defense in Div. 1 football?

Sark is a loser. Will CDC hold him accountable?

Sabre, you are correct. Ohio State QB Art Schleiter (or however you spell his last name) gambling on bucks games. IIRC was found guilty but dont recall punishment.

Card should have at the very least been given the keys for a couple of drives based on the consistently inconsistent play of Ewers. It didn't seem like Ewers was mentally there the entire game, and the slightest bit of pressure caused him to throw it away and put us in 3rd and long.

We also seemed to completely abandon Roschon the second half - I love Bijan, but the change of pace (and power) Roschon provides is a key element to our success. Hell, I probably would have run the Wildcat formation the entire 2nd half and forced OSU to stop it. Should haves and could haves - that is Texas football these days.

I'm a Ewers fan. I saw enough in Cotton Bowl against OU to be a believer but something seemed truly off in the 2nd half yesterday. Not just "he's still a RS Fr" or "this was his first true road game". In the 2nd half he never seemed to work through read progressions. He never climbed the ladder in the pocket when pressure was coming. I don't think we'll see this again. But something was off.

Yeah, he threw the game with multiple completions in the final drive and must have been in cahoots with JT to tip the pass that got intercepted.

    Wow, what a stupid thread.

You should retitle this thread to Swoopes.

With that level of inaccuracy, he is Quinn Swoopes until further notice.

I saw this too. He’s potentially a generational kind of talent with a lot of work and growing up to do. I was truly beside myself and ran out of ‘inconceivable’ synonyms for the way the balls were flying, throwing ball high or away with no pressure, receivers not tracking balls in the air or tripping when open or looking at each other after ball lands between them. Something was clearly off. I’m sympathetic to having put Card in for a series or hearing the argument, but when do you do it? Third quarter when you are up by 7-14 points? Or when it’s tied and you bring him in cold? Don’t think so.

And then as HIC has pointed out he has flashes on final two drives then our stud TE drops a perfect ball off his hands in his face mask that he probably gets to 10-5 yard line if he catches. He leads us back, and all is forgiven and you move on, but something was so off and he’s got two weeks to put it back together.

As for the long pass attempts, the last time I saw a Texas opponent play their safeties that close to the line of scrimmage, DKR was coaching, and we know how he felt about putting the ball in the air.

What does Sark do about the Connor Wood disease that Card suffers from?

With this season shot to hell, I hope Sark can work Ewers through his problems and onto success.

For those not old enough to remember, DKR got a "generational QB", first HS player on the cover of SI - my friend Bill Bradley. I stuck by and supported Bill, but ironically the kid recruited to play DB relieved the QB, who became an All Pro DB. While I don't want to go through that again, the results were very rewarding the first time.

As for the deep passes, put Roschon in the mildcat and have him throw deep. Kid has the arm, and if the safeties are going to be ten yards or less off the ball, loosen them up.

Yeah Im not saying that was holding or not...very close. But they don't call that holding 8/10 times and if you do then you can on just about every other play. I thought that was a key moment inthe game. A first down across midfield with Ewers loose and maybe more confident after a good scramble vs 2nd and 22 from the other side of the field

Why all the negativity? We beat OU. And we are close to being undefeated. The team is obviously better. It takes 2-3 years to fix poor line play. Evers was off..he’s a freshman and it was very windy. They have to be better on the road but the lineman cannot force their will yet. We do need more man coverages.

The throwing the ball away when there was no pressure was very irksome.

Maybe There was no one open, but there was also no pressure. And so you could run, or hold on the the ball and see if someone gets open. But He chose to say f**k it and throw it away more than once.

looks like the kid does not give a ****.
Maybe it’s his clavicle and if that’s the case Sarks indecision to pull him is indefensible.

I do find this thread sort of comical based on some of the insinuations made. Too easy to blame the QB when things go wrong, and yes, obviously he did not have a good game. But geez, how many times have we seen the horns take two and three score leads in games only to have defensive coaches make the proper adjustments at halftime and our coaches do absolutely nothing to counter those adjustments. All gas no brakes??? Really? First half, maybe.

And to the poster who said our running back is the best since Earl, well I think they have had a couple of other pretty good ones too. Ricky, CB. Just sayin.

And this season, once full of so much promise has now officially deflated me again.

I've watched Quin since he was a sophomore in HS and have never seen him play anywhere close to that bad. I don't believe he threw the game, but he may have been hurt and didn't tell anyone or took a shot to the head.
The problem was Sark not getting him out of there. I truly believe if he would have put Card in at the start of the 4th qtr we win, probably by 2 scores. Totally bad coaching decision.

Why do you want more man coverage when K's zone all but guarantees the D will get the ball back quicker since the opponent will score in the next two plays.

    I have said for decades:

What do you call a team that runs a zone? LOSERS!

What do you call a team that runs a soft zone? BIG LOSERS!

I'm old, but just once before I die, I wish God would let me see our defense knock every receiver off at the line of scrimmage.

He has started a handful of games and had a couple of bad ones. And stomped the rap out of OU

He is a kid and will get better with time. Spenser Sanders did not look as good as a freshman as he did Saturday

It is a game played by a bunch of excited teenagers

Sorry some weepers didn't get to see the blowout they live for, but....

Pitiful that I mention ancient history but Coach Dabbs played man exclusively my senior year. The most points scored against our defense that year was 20 points by the greatest Round Rock Dragon team in their long history. We also held Alfred Jackson of Caldwell, an all time longhorn great and star with the Atlanta Falcons to minimal yardage employing strictly man. We did have two legitimate 4.5 forty corners and 3 future longhorns as well.

    well I have another angle.
    why not?
we agree Ewers is young and inexperienced.
Being fresh from high school he has had things come easy to him. So his cool and non-chalant attitude is not good enough for college and especially a hostile environment like okie state.
I wish Sark would have grabbed Ewers by the face mask right there on national tv and tell him you need to get your head out of your a** in a harsh and loud manner a la Lou Holtz.
I bet Ewers about to s**t in his pants in this environment but came across as cool.
He desperately lacks grit. he may develop grit in time but not at the cost of ball games and that's the coach's fault.
But I'm not mad at Ewers, I am pissed off at SARK for not starting Card at least by mid third quarter ( I was calling for change at half time in spite of the lead). Everyone and their mama was calling for a change. How stupid can you get? Didn't Saban pull his QB out of the NC game when he wasn't playing well (not as bad as Ewers though) and put in the 2nd string who lead them to victory a few years ago. (I will always respectSaban for that , much as I dislike him).
I have always been a Sark fan but he seems determined to change that. I really am pissed. I mean there are many high school coaches that would have made that change.
Sark failed to send a message to Ewers by yanking him. Hey, you got to play better than this. What is Ewers to think, "no matter how bad I am I will still play".
Sark needs to make Ewers dig down for something.

BTW, our defense was playing well enough for us to win. Our offense failed to help them thanks to Sark.
    alright I will stop ranting.

Mack pulled Vince against Tech and put Chance Mock in. It worked

I also thought Card should be in by the fourth quarter

but I am not a coach who gauges these guys and the circumstances all year long

my guess of a 8-4 season looks doable right now

In retrospect I think Sark should have put Card in. But at the time I wasn't calling for him. It's easy to second guess after a loss that could have been a win. But there are no absolutes in sports. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. That's just the nature of athletics. If Ewers has any salt, he'll learn from this and get better. If he's just another pretty boy, well, we're in trouble.

We're only in trouble if Sark sticks with the pretty boy.
And I'm not giving up on Ewers. Just hypothetical.
Card is good enough to carry us through the season with the RBs and other talent we have. Just needs suitable play calling.
And Ewers is still around if needed.
Sark has said Maalik is catching up now that he's healthy.
Charles Wright may be an adequate backup.
And of course Manning comes in next year.

I think it would have been a good lesson to sit Ewers for a quarter and a half.
Card certainly couldn't have played any worse.
And Ewers remains starter for next game.

Wonder what the Mannings think when they see how an ultra talented 19 yr old gets treated after a bad game , gets accused of not caring, being high, insinuating he threw the game. This coming from adult educated men who likely have or had kids.
