Reminds me of Mack sticking with Simms simply because he was a 5 star over Applewhite. Not saying Ewers isn’t the best starter. Just saying Sark needs to insert Card occasionally when Ewers is not performing.

 

If I’d have told you how well the defense would’ve played and Dugan’s stats and that was it, you’d have thought Texas won this game by 3 scores. Losses like this are very disappointing and borderline inexcusable when you have an offensive ‘guy’ calling the game and all of the talent and weapons and you only needed 2 touchdowns to win. You’re a QB whisperer. Whisper something.

About now, we could use a quarterback shouter…!

 

It seems to me that our WR corps often doesn’t make much of an effort to go after poorly thrown balls. And it’s not just Worthy.

 

The one buttonhook pattern I recall from last night worked for a first down.

But I don’t whisper to quarterbacks…

 

6 Points in our last 18 offensive possessions.

 

Jwhitt and Bijan were open all night. Quinn never saw them. 12 Carries for Bijan.

Card got benched, Casey got benched and neither looked this bad. it's nuts.

 

It was the number 4th team in the country, and they have not lost.

 

Two often in college football raw speed is confused with the quality of a receiver. Many of the best receivers were not the fastest on the field.

Indeed. In fact, the NFL named their WR award after a man who was most definitely NOT among the fastest WRs. Bilitnikof.

 

Perhaps the quarterback is deaf.

 

So? The receivers were still open and missed, either not seen or ball poorly thrown, and balls that could have been caught were not. The play calling was subpar and predictable with no adjusting the running game with what the defense was doing. Sometimes you just can’t block it better and make it work, you have to do something different. Sark refuses to do that. I would argue that the ineptitude we saw last night was more about what we were not doing instead of what tcu did. It’s not like their defense hadn’t been lit up in multiple games this year. Winners make plays, losers make excuses. Which is this team. I think it is certainly a reflection of its head coach.

 

When Sark didn't put in Card in the 2nd half of the Okie State game I knew the season was over and he was a dead man walking. Card might have done just as bad but at least Sark would have tried something different. Ewers has no confidence now and was hanging his head last night like his puppy died. Sark will get one more season but I don't see things getting better.

 

And Paris Texas’ Hall of Fame Raymond Berry. Slow afoot, one leg shorter than the other, bad eyesight, designed many of his own moves to get open, ran perfect patterns, fumbled once in 13 years in NFL, ranked in the top 100 all time NFL players and worked long hours with Johnny Unitas perfecting their games. Young players today would do well to study what made Berry great. Especially if they have God given speed to go with it.

IMHO, Our WRs drop too many catchable balls.

 

While our OL play last night was subpar, our WR play really stunk up the joint. (Obviously so did our QB play, but our WRs did little to help him last night, and plenty to hurt him)

 

True, but there may have been more uncatchable balls last night. But, drops certainly hurt and killed some early drives and possible momentum.

 

Yep. Fair point. QB play was obviously abysmal too. We just need the WRs to make the grabs on the catchable balls (with the occasional/irregular drop that does happen from time-to-time)

 

Well, the new rankings are out. TCU remains at #4, but they don't garner much respect, OR, more likely, the pollsters just think Texas sucks. Lose to the consensus #4 but drop from 18 to NR.

I know, and agree, the polls have never been based on logic and/or common sense.

With all of our weapons and supposedly the best OC/HC in the country — and at home in front of a raucous crowd, our offense scored 3 points.

 

I, too, was at the game (Section 28, Row 38) and I pretty much agree with aUTfan's observations.

DKR may have sounded quiet on TV, but I thought the crowd was very loud (even louder than the 2016 Notre Dame game or the 2018 USC game). But maybe the folks in Section 28 were unusually raucous. And I thought they kept up the roar pretty well through the 4th quarter (at least until TCU's 2nd TD of the night).

I'll probably continue to attend a game each season, but going forward I'll probably choose a ULM or UTSA game or the equivalent. Last night felt like an ordeal of dashed expectations.

On a totally unrelated note, let me recommend the Coffee Dog in Bastrop if you are traveling on SH 71 and need some coffee and a breakfast panini. Good stuff. Also, I often like to make a fuel stop at the Circle K/Valero located at SH 71 and FM 1209, just west of Bastrop. Way better than dealing with the madhouse at the big Buc-ee's in Bastrop.

 

Only thing I though missing from the crowd was the rarity of Texas Fight, not nearly as often as usual. Of course sitting in the direct path of the Jumbotron speakers (NEZ) it was difficult to distinguish the crowd from it. Wayyyyy tooo loud.
Also I think ABC has more commercials and more of the long 3 min + variety than the other coverages. They seemed long and way too frequent.

Clear to me that the stadium folks were anticipating a loud and enthusiastic crowd (which it was until 5 minutes into the game). They turned up the juice to the Jumbotron . Unfortunately the offense was a buzzkill like I have never experienced before. The crowd was saying, WTF?, after nearly every play. All you heard was collective murmuring and consternation.

 

Yeah, the Jumbotron was another reason for which I will prefer to enjoy future games from the comfort of my living room or from a sports themed restaurant. I had brought along ear plugs (because 90 minutes before the game I attended the Percussion on the Green outside of the Butler School of Music) and they came in very handy last night during the game. Even with the ear plugs, my ears were still ringing when I got back to the hotel.

And I noticed that there were some malfunctioning pixels in the lower right quadrant of the Jumbotron. A trivial thing, you might think. But we’re the flagship university in the state and you would think that we would have a Jumbotron that was (literally!) picture perfect.

 

Yeah I usually have ear bud with radio on in one ear and an ear plug in other. Drives wife crazy but saves my ears. Forgot them this game so could be why seemed offensively loud to me this time.
